I was looking for a good hiking trail since the beautiful Noland Trail is closed due to Covid-19…read more This was a little hard to find since I used Google for directions. As yelp says it's off Osprey. The trail is going to be towards your right as you exit your car. The lake is towards your left. There was a closed gate right before the trail and I assume that was to let cars from going through since I seen somebody come out walking from there and that's how I found the trail. It's not as neatly maintained as Noland Trail and Sandy Beach Bottom Trail. It's a little confusing and lots of off paths. It was a little adventure and a good place to feel like your really lost in the woods

This isn't too far from out house. Free parking by the lake. Porta potty available for the needs…read more New signs make it easy to see where to bike to the trails. You go up a dirt path and cross the road. The first trail is on your right. It's roots and has some up and down portions. The bridges over the ditches are narrow and my youngest(and myself) often found ourselves struggling to stay in the middle. Lock your elbows on the downhill to stay straight! Some areas are tight between the trees, so know the trail before going too fast through it. At the end you are back on a wide path that you can go left to get back to parking...or go right toward more trails. We went to the far back for the 3rd trail. It used to be called advanced, but I like it better than the first. Less roots, but more tight in places. Some snakes back here like to lay on the trail...be loud and they slither away. Less up and down hills here but there is doozy near the end. Almost too steep before the bridge and you can catch your pedal here. I did a nice over the handle bars into the ditch and rolled back up. My youngest said it was the best fall ever! I also remember a few log portions....it's hard to pedal through those, so push hard! Our family likes to do things together. My husband wants a technical ride. My son is intermediate rider and my daughter and myself just want to survive. We have fun here. Highly recommend. Oh, side note: We haven't ever had issues with ticks in these woods. But always check when through playing the woods!

It's quite a shame that a trail with this kind of significance, commemorating the lives lost of…read moreservice members, is located within the walls of a military base with restricted access from the general population. Hence this review, to inform those who don't have access. Heroes Circle Nature Trail is located on Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek - Fort Story honors the service members who lost their lives while stationed here since September 11, 2001. I think this trail was built within the last few years, because I don't remember this trail being here the last time we were stationed here. There are individual markers highlighting each hero's service and sacrifice along the trail and I took a snapshot of each one and hope I didn't forget anyone. There is another little area "Hero Workout of the Day" that is dedicated to "The Murph". LT Murphy was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and nicknamed the workout you see on the marker, "Body Armor". The trail starts off with a slightly raised wooden platform, but does not go all the way to the end (FYI for the strollers & wheelchairs). According to the info board found at the trailhead, the trail is about 0.8 mile. The trail also serves as a bird and wildlife sanctuary with interpretive signs throughout. It's a beautiful trail, although short, with great significance, so if you have access or can get access, I recommend you stop by for a bit of exercise, fresh air and gratitude. May they rest in peace.

Initially, before I even visited this park my thoughts were, it's just a simple huge field with a…read moreflat path. Well I was wrong in a sense. Clearly it is a simple roundabout flat paved circuit, but it's so much more than that to many different people. One, it's great for me because I'm not supposed to navigate uneven terrain yet. There was plenty of real estate to do my walk and give the regenerated ankle some exercise. I didn't walk around the elementary school nearby, just the path immediately that encompasses the bathroom. That path alone twice was a little over 2 miles roughly. The park is perfect if you have well behaved dogs. Plenty of room for Fido to run around. There were several people with their dogs walking. I saw a man run his remote controlled car through the field and walkways, a kid and his parental vision ride across on a dirt bike, and a man and his little kid on his atv. You name it! The field is massive you really won't run into anyone because of the amount of space! There were several soccer goals out there too. I'm sure this a perfect place for Impromptu soccer games and football games, they probably even hold games there. There isn't many benches, I saw at least one aside from the ones in the two mini shelters. There isn't a lot of shade so if you want to get some sun this a good place. There are trees along parts of the path for partial shade. I feel this would be a good place to teach kids how to ride a bike, or to cruise on a skateboard. Close to the parking lot they have outdoor exercise equipment provided by AARP that is protected by sun shades which is wonderful! I got on the elliptical bike for a minute or so and did step ups on the various level platforms. It's a good resource for anyone really! I think it's great and I'm thankful that it's available for anyone to use. Super smart as well to place sun shades up high to protect people from the sun as well as to protect the longevity of the equipment. Bathrooms are close to the parking lot with water fountains.

Our dog loves running around. We are bummed that they locked up the back fence to the neighborhood. It was perfect and easy access on our walks. There is a clean restroom and water fountain. There are places for people to bbq. There is a little playground area for different ages of elementary kids to play at Diamond Springs ES. They also have basketball courts. They provide doggy bags & trash receptacles around the track. Very nice area. The only downfall is the damn geese. Who can we sell these geese to?! They're awful and they poop EVERYWHERE. So nasty.
