My husband bought a pair of hiking pants a few years ago and they have worn so thin in the thighs that there are holes, the stitching has failed in places and they have sun faded so badly you can't tell what the original colour was. I contacted the company for the warranty and was offered a $25.00 gift certificate. This is the second time I have contacted customer service about the poor quality on an expensive piece of clothing and the second time I have been blown off--this last time it was with an AI response full of random question marks. In a time where people's disposable income is down and companies are having to compete harder than ever for consumer dollars, customer service becomes the tie breaker. There are lots of high quality brands to choose from, don't waste your money on this one because if you have a problem, they won't stand behind their product.

I called the customer service line and spoke to a male who told me "this sale has caught us completely off guard and we're overwhelmed". No kidding?? The male told me that there had been staff cutbacks this year, due to how slow it had been, but suddenly the sale has regenerated sales that have overwhelmed the existing employees Ok ... the spokesperson then told me that my jacket was in Winnipeg and had to be shipped to Edmonton! What is going on here, MEC?? You hold a Black Friday sale and you're overwhelmed??? Then my next day pick up, at this inconvenient location, is in Winnipeg??? The kicker is December 16, 2024, I received an email from MEC telling me that my order has been cancelled. My goodness. The store was clean and well laid out - it was easy to find the sections we were interested in even for our first visit. They had an extensive hat and t-shirt section with competitive prices. The only section I found they were slightly lacking in was Oilers clothing for women, children, and infants. They had a few but not as many options as say, United Cycle. We will definitely be returning here for OIlers knick knacks to decorate our son's room and I'm sure my husband will be adding to his hat collection!
