Very nice park. Tons of people walking their dogs, saw some walking groups and bike riding going on. Some good places to have a picnic. Down at the bottom of the canyon. There is a playground up at the entrance but extremely limited parking, perhaps like 3 spaces. The sand in the playground needs to be better maintained. There was debris and trash in it. No restrooms. The lack of parking and no restrooms makes this a 3/5 vs 4/5 We do our family shoot here which I would saw was a great place. read more

Cool neighborhood park with trails and a playground for kids. Some trails lead to the hills. Also, lots of dogs (most off-leash and friendly.) I tried holding a training session for my dog here, and 3 unleashed pups ran up to us (which was okay for training purposes.) Just fyi. In the spring now, there are beautiful wildflowers as well. read more

Was visiting the area and wanted to find a park for my dog to stretch his legs. This park is right off the main road in Costa Mesa and was really peaceful and had lots of green space for my guy. Limited parking in the park but plenty of off street parking in the neighborhood. The trail off the park was really nice and enjoyable. read more

Easy parking in the lot (3 spaces next to the playground and more in the 2nd lot which is a further drive into the park) and residential area. Canyon park connects to Talbert Park via paved and dirt trails. Compared Talbert Park, Canyon Park has more trees so it's more shaded. There are many trails splits. It's stroller friendly if you bring an all terrain stroller and try to stay on the wider trails. Some are a little sandy. read more

Our photographer scheduled our family photos at this park. It was our first time here and it did not disappoint. The nature and scenery at this place is stunning. There is some benches all around so that was convenient. In our 40 min session we observed two different police trucks patrolling so it's definitely a safe area. There was a lot of families out hiking definitely family friendly. I believe this area is also pet friendly since there was a lot of dogs. read more

Came to bring the kids and small dog. At first glance, the directions had me pull up to a playground park. I initially was upset thinking Canyon had no trails and was just that. Keep driving in and you see a mini trail in the canyon!! Super easy to get to, walk through, and perfect for young hikers or people who want to go on a walk. Trail took about 20-25 minutes to walk through and get back to the parking lot. Family friendly and awesome little park! Keep in mind that There are houses surrounding the area. read more

Canyon Park connects to the Talbert Nature Preserve if you follow the paved trail (not the road). I like this park better because it has more shade, more trees, and looks more maintained. There are dirt and paved trails, and it is a good sized park for dog walking and running. There is some elevation at times but not much. You really feel like you're out of the city and into the wilderness. I like that it connects to the Preserve, and in turn the Preserve connects to Fairview Park, making the area a huge bunch of trails to explore. There are a lot of people though who let their dog off leash, which is unfortunate. My dog is not dog aggressive, but there are leash laws in place for a reason - for the safety of your own pet. Also, it's a nature preserve, there are squirrels, rabbits, and sensitive plant life around. We are lucky that there are many places that allow us to take our dogs with us, hopefully owners remain responsible of their dogs. Luckily some of the people we ran into were polite enough to leash their dog or dogs when they saw us coming. Despite that, Zulu and I will definitely be back. read more

There's a nature preserve right next to Canyon Park that we went through first, and a cool BMX dirt course was built within it as well, so if you're into BMX riding you will love it. At first it was difficult to find how to get into Canyon Park because when you use your GPS, it doesn't lead you to an entrance. If you find yourself scaling a fence trying to find the way in, you're in the wrong area. In the residential area surrounding the park, you'll find a few paths that lead you down into the nature preserve area, which eventually after scaling the perimeter, gets you onto the path to Canyon Park. It's dog friendly, and when I went it didn't seem too busy at the time. My experience here isn't enough to be able to give you a decent time schedule based on busy and quiet days/times. As I go more, I will update with what I experience. read more

I came to Canyon Park with two close friends for their engagement shoot. I was surprised to find out how large this park was! The park was pleasantly clean and had a lot of areas with good photo opportunities. There were lots of locals walking their dogs and it was a nice park overall. I'd recommend coming here if you want to take photos in an outdoor setting. read more

Great park. Compared to the mess that is the neglected Talbert Nature Preserve it shows that if Talbert was in the hands of Costa Mesa, not Orange County, we could do a far superior job caring for it. It's well maintained, doesn't have the homeless problem that Talbert has, and blooms out with loads of wild daisies in the spring. Only thing missing is a bathroom. It really needs one. Edit cause I need to ask everyone here a question - Personally, I absolutely LOVE Canyon Park and I do want to say that I think Costa Mesa Parks & Recreation are some of the hardest working people there are. However, there is a lot of non-native invasive species of plants such as pampas grass, ice plant, ivy, and cactus, that are taking over the park and there's only so much the P&R guys can do on their own. So please let me use this to ask you all a question - how many of you would be interested in doing a community clean up for Canyon Park? Clearing out all the invasive plants, putting in native, drought resistant plants, removing dead trees, etc? read more

I love this park! I enjoy walking with my family and staying connected to Mother Nature.

This park is massive. My boyfriend and I were looking for a new place to workout and this is the best place we could have possibly found. There wasn't a ton of people around and we were able to enjoy the grass and the sun and utilize one of their many (very clean) park benches. They also have a nice jungle gym and running trails that we'll check out next time (just the trails) read more

I love the diversity in flora and fauna in Canyon Park. Lots of flowers and different plants are throughout the canyon. There are some steep trails which give you a good workout. Fun to go all the way around beyond the park down to watch the bikers at Sheep Hills in Talbert Regional Park. Responsibly maintained. read more
