Castaways Park is one of the most beautiful tucked away trails in Newport Beach. Easily accessed from Dover, with a great parking lot that's never full. It's a lovely walk with spectacular views of the harbor. There's tons of greenery, beautiful flowers, and of course, the tributes and monuments to those who have served. It's a great trail to walk alone and collect your thoughts. Go on a nice dog walk, or catch up with a friend. Whether you go during the day or around sunset, it's always beautiful and very enjoyable. I highly recommend to go there for a personal reset... be present. No phone, no audio, and just connect to nature & the outdoors. The blooming flowers are absolutely stunning, as are the views of the sparkling ocean water, the best of Newport Beach. read more

Castaways Park is set adjacent to Newport Lutheran Church. In fact, turn into the first driveway to access castaways parking right before the church driveway. Plenty of parking here and I felt very safe. The entrance into the park has a gate, but also has a doggy waste bag station. There are two disability access parking spots and ramps to go beyond the gate. Those always make me feel welcomed with my fur baby. The trail throughout the park is relatively flat with slight incline and is paved with asphalt. The walkways are lined with brush and native plants for conservation. It's a nice walk throughout and the perimeter of the park has a gorgeous view of the back Bay as it set along the top of the Bluffs. There are trash cans and doggy bag stations throughout the path, which is great. I still don't understand how people could be so rude and not pick up after their dogs when there's so much access here. My dog Finn loves walking these trails because he loves wildlife. Plenty of wildlife to see, including birds, bunnies, and squirrels. read more

Castaway Park is tucked inside Newport Harbor. It's really more of walking trail than park. Nicely paved paths with a fence throughout so it's safe for kids and pets to roam freely. Although there aren't many spots for shade, I'd recommend lathering up on sunblock and bringing a hat for those warmer days. From this spot, you can clearly see an expansive view of Newport. East Coast Highway, Bay Island and lots of kayakers can be spotted making their way through the channels. For a total route of 1.5 miles, start at the Goodwill Donation parking lot, follow the path along the neighborhood, until you reach the intersection at Dover and Westcliff Dr. If you're looking to take a break, crossover to Westcliff and visit the cafes for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat. Once finished it's a straight path back to the parking lot! read more

The walk itself is easy so you can walk your dogs, catch up with a friend, or take pictures also. This is a great little area for walking on paved paths. Parking is easy if you google castaways park parking and restrooms are convenient as they are across the street. There is a very small incline to get to the park but once you're there, everything is flat. If you turn right, you get a great view of the back bay. There is a memorial and a few park benches if you want to sit and enjoy the view. Otherwise, if you want to be a little more active, you can take the path all the way into the residential area. There's no shade along the path so don't forget your sunscreen and hat on the hot days. read more

This is the location for the Field Of Honor held on Memorial Days. The site is setup beautifully and lovely to go for a walk amidst the fog lined pathway that leads to the Memorial monument. The actual park is great too for the kids to play. Sand out, soft flooring. Bucket swings. One large red and blue play structure with a canopy for shade. Quiet, chill spot. Come here alot to go paddleboarding, or launch ur boat, or kayak. Half the one side is preserved cause of Marine life n ur not suppose to fish under bridge or on the side thts preserved. They don't enforce it, ppl still fish etc etc. It's chill to chill in parking lot, police don't fck w u. Supposedly it closes from 11-6am, but again they don't enforce it. Place gets pretty busy in morning but plenty of parking for everyone. Great place to fish to, always catch sumthing here. Parking lot is really dark no street lights. read more

A definite 3.5 to 3.75 score. Mostly for walkers, joggers, and runners, and possibly for a few novice bikers. The main area is the park, which includes a war memorial. The upper and lower parks are the same, just parking preference. The memorial is located on either side. There is also a bike path that runs north along the bay . The total path is around 2.5 miles to around 3.5, with intermittent rest benches and wilderness trails. Great scenic pics can be taken, and the area has an appreciation for nature. It's a simple park, for walks and picnics and, of course, a salute to our armed forces. read more

I take my dog walking here all the time! It's a perfect 20-30 minute stroll and has amazing views of the Newport Bay. There is a free parking lot at the entrance, and convenient poop bags, trash cans and water fountains for us dog owners. There are a series of short, interconnecting paved trails that can be used to walk, run or bike. I highly recommend watching the sun rise here on a clear day - it's magical! read more

During Memorial Day (and approx a week prior) Castaways Park has the most spectacular event called the Field of Honor. A must see. Otherwise, in general this is a great place to walk (alone, with a friend(s), or with family) Easy pathway with views (make sure you take all the twists and turns up to the top) Easy parking, free parking, nicely paved walkway. Many benches to just sit and relax too. Would be so cool if they added a grass "picnic" spot too. read more

Castaways Park used to be "The Castaways": Dirt, Eucalyptus trees, rope swings, teenagers making out/drinking/smoking weed. Today the dirt and Eucalyptus are mostly gone, replaced with cookie cutter mansions behind manned gates. But there's a paved pathway on the view side of the cliffs, which takes you along the perimeter for about a 1/2 mile. It's this path and the 25 acres it stretches through, that have been re-dubbed "Castaways Park". About halfway along the path, and at the furthest tip (near the flagpole), there's a couple of benches that make a nice place to sit and take in the view of the bay, the boats, and the PCH bridge. There's also an oddly placed statue nearby, honoring the Marines (odd, since a) Newport Beach is hardly representative of the makeup of today's recruits and b) the statue is pretty much located in the exact place where the benches ought to be). This is mostly a nice walking path (leashed dogs welcome) or a path to bike through quickly. If you're a rogue adventurer you can cut through here as part of a trip around the Back Bay Loop Trail. It's not part of that loop, but it's a nice diversion and easy enough to hook up again with that trail once you come out of this one. read more

I'm hoping that the Yelp search gods are experiencing minor difficulties and there is actually a listing for Castaways. Located on a nondescript corner of Dover and E16th/Castaways Lane sits Castaways Park. Up against the Upper Back Bay it is a nice little park that consists mostly of a paved trail going along part of the bay and some natural areas they are trying to rehabilitate. It provides a great view of the upper bay, Newport Dunes, and you can often see people on their boats cruising by, along with kayakers, and row teams congregating below. Only problem is that people are jerks and still do not pick up after their dogs. Yes, most people I see do pick up, but you constantly have to navigate around the land mines that surround this place. There are plenty of trashcans, signs, and even bags available, and yet some people just don't care. But aside from that, it is a great place to take a short walk or jog around a few times. read more

Stopped by for a break on our drive back to LA from a weekend in San Diego. Newport Beach is where I lived for three years when I first moved to California over thirteen years ago and I visit as often as possible. This was afternoon and there was no way I was going to try and get to the peninsula. This was a way to get a great view without worrying about parking or the typical Newport problems. We went for a short walk around the path, enjoyed the statue/memorial and then visited the park across the street for a bathroom break. A quiet retreat. read more

This trail on our regular dog walk route. We have been walking this for years and it's a nice clean, safe area to walk. Last night the view was gorgeous...so clear and beautiful with all the twinkling lights from Fashion Island, to PCH, to the Balboa Pavilion and beyond. You can usually hear some strange sounds coming out of some flying creatures that whiz by you...bats maybe? I've also seen tons of lizards and bunny rabbits here. This is a good spot to watch the 4th of July fireworks over Newport Dunes. read more

Like some other reviews its a bit deceiving to call this a park. Castaways is more of a rest area on your bike ride/jog/walk or whatever your outdoor activity may be. I gave Castaways 5 stars because I use it just for that. I would consider myself to be a bit of an avid cyclist and on the hot summer days this place is perfect for a quick 2 minute cool down. There are two benches facing outwards towards the bay sitting underneath trees that give good shade throughout most of the day. Towards the back of the park, or away from the cliff, there are flat park benches but there's no shade covering them. One Last thing about this place is you can't beat the views of the back bay and the pacific in the distance. read more

It is a great park for walking. Amazing view and there were thousands of flags. I don't know if the flags are always there we went to walk there on 28th of May just before Memorial Day. You can both look at amazing ocean view or great mansions lined through the park. read more

Nice view of the Newport harbor. Really small parking and I wouldn't call this a real park. Just a viewpoint. Still I would consider this one of the hidden places I'd take visitors in the area. Looks nicer in the spring with all the flowers blooming. read more

It's semi-nature at best, but if you're looking for a breath of fresh air, or a place to run without cars whizzing by, this is a fun place! Great place for a quick jog: it has a fun view of Newport harbor, with Fashion Island in the distance on one side and the Ocean on the other. I jogged from my apartment and tried to enter straight from 16th Street, but was bummed out to find it's a gated community. Bummed out but determined, I headed north on Dover, and found the upper entrance to the trail. It's paved and flat, with the bay on one side and beautiful houses packed in tight on the other. The trail was relatively busy on this Saturday around noon with a couple other joggers, people walking their dogs, and cyclists. If you're looking for a challenging hike, this is NOT your place: it's a park. However, you want to go for a leisurely walk or have a view with your run, this is a nice spot. read more

My dog Zulu and I decided today was finally the day to take on the Back Bay Loop Trail. We decided to start in Castaways Park. We didn't have much time to enjoy it, but we took the trail that is part of the loop. It is sandwiched between the backs of nice houses and a beautiful view of the bay. I'm not sure if there are more trails around here but it was a good place to park/start for the loop trail. We'll be back again sometime to see what other trails there are (if any). read more

This is a cool place to walk (alone or with Duke) exercise, and get views of the beach and awesome houses in Newport. Parking is right on the church lot. Stairs allow locals to access the park from the street and the beach. This is where I would live if my job was in the OC. read more
