The hygienist was very rude, condescending, and completely insensitive to someone (me) with severe dental anxiety. I received X-Rays promptly at the start of my appointment, and was set up in an exam room. I then waited 25+ minutes to see my dentist and hygienist. She came in, said hello, and the dr came in with her. He completed a quick exam, stated that everything looked great, and left the room. The hygienist then began her exam, scaling each tooth on all sides. Not only was I not in a private room, but the other patients and staff could hear how loud she was speaking in adjoining rooms. In addition to that, after being told how "great" everything was by my dentist, something I RARELY hear, she began belittling me about how terrible my teeth were. She asked my age, and stated my teeth "shouldn't be this awful". She also asked if I had braces, and for how long. Well gee, if you READ YOUR PATIENTS CHARTS, you'd see that I did (for far too long) and the issues they caused me. I have spent an extreme amount of money with the practice, had multiple surgeries, cleanings, and so on to try to preserve the natural smile I have left. With the hook tool, she poked and prodded at each tooth and gum painfully, to the point where my entire mouth was bleeding. I was asked if I floss daily (I do, and brush my teeth religiously). She assumed by how much I was bleeding that I do not floss, which is NOT the case. I have EXTREMELY sensitive teeth and gums, which should be noted in my chart. Based on her "opinion" my oral health had gotten worse after a surgery I recently received at the same office, which left my jaw with 3 OPEN HOLES without sutures. Since I am sensitive, it took me twice as long to heal from that event. She was convinced that I "babied" my oral hygiene during this time, which I did NOT. In fact, I was even MORE religious with it due to having oral surgery. While she started performing the said cleaning, she also had brushed my teeth extremely rough, to the point that I now have sores in my mouth. She flossed my teeth, and continued to be extremely rough. She then insisted that I receive an $85 "deep clean" because of how bad everything was. I felt extremely uncomfortable with this, but agreed anyway because I was afraid for the repercussions if I did not agree. During the deep clean she continued to be harsh, and burned the inside of my lip with the laser. Once completed, she left the room and had the doctor come back in to say that she "discovered a cavity" while doing my cleaning. The doctor came in, barely looked, and stated, "great catch. Let's get you scheduled to come back for a filling." They both left the room, and she came back with a mouthwash to give me after insisting I needed to use it or a similar product because "I must have changed something in my routine". Once done, she brought me to the front, told the desk to check me out, and left. This is absolutely NOT how patient interactions should go. The front asked me how everything went, to which I said nothing. She said "I'm glad it went well" with making eye contact with me, who, quite obviously, was about to burst into tears. She then asked for payment, so I handed her my Smile Generation card. She asked a coworker next to her if it could be used, and they stated no because the treatment had to meet or exceed $200. I have NEVER been told I cannot use my SMILE GENERATION credit card for ANY amount and have never had an issue before. She asked for a different form of payment, which left me panicking to find another card with money on it that was available. I figured it out (barely) but didn't have the money for an $85 treatment. Not only that, had I known I couldn't use it, I would have NEVER agreed to the deep cleaning. She then asked to set my filling appointment, to which I stated I would call to schedule. I walked out the door and burst into tears. This is NOT the first time I have had a terrible, condescending, inconsiderate, insensitive visit at this office. This makes #4, as I have been coming back for years as this is the only office offered by my dental insurance, therefore I have no other choice. I will be moving, and therefore, don't plan to ever return. Do better. This is why people with many types of health anxiety don't receive treatment because of staffs attitudes and bs opinions. read more
