Took my car in here a few months ago because it went into limp mode on the freeway. They took one look at it and told me it was going to need an engine because it was knocking, then offered to buy it off me for about $1,500. I couldn't hear the knock but I was going to believe them, just figured they knew what they were doing and they're a reputable shop. I was about to sell it to a junkyard today and again I couldn't hear the knock so I figured id get a second opinion from another shop in boulder. (I know this should have been the first thing I did lol) Turns out the engine was completely fine, it needed a new accelerator pedal sensor and that was throwing the car into limp mode. I had already bought a new car and I just fixed my old one for about $100 and ten minutes of work; because I trusted them and didn't get a second opinion I'm stuck with two functional cars! I have a hard time believing they purposely misdiagnosed the problem to try and buy the car off me for significantly less than it was worth, but who knows. I'm really just confused by the whole thing, I thought I was going crazy trying to hear a knock in a perfectly healthy engine. The one thing I do know is that I wouldn't recommend this shop. Could have been an honest mistake, or there could have been some malicious intent, who knows. Regardless of the reason it happened they f***ed up and the whole thing has been a massive, unnecessary inconvenience. read more

Beware women these mechanics do not respect women nor are they accountable for their horrible work. I had them replace a control arm which is still causing me trouble so the job was not done correctly. After I left I discovered my wheel well was missing. When I brought my car back the head mechanic told me it was missing before I brought it in to them. The job was not done well and being accused of this because I am a women is not acceptable. I check the oil periodically and add washer fluid so I am fully aware of what's missing and what isn't , I would not refer these mechanics to anyone even to my worst enemu read more

I was referred to this company because I was told they would not rip me off. But when my alternator ended up being $750 I knew that I got ripped off. Also I was taking my truck in to get oil changes and asked several times to have my brakes checked. He mentioned my front brakes had 40% brake pads left so he wasn't going to change them. Only a couple weeks later my back breaks were grinding very bad and I needed new pads and rotors at this point. Very sad that this happened! Seriously where did all the good people go!? read more

I've taken my autos to Canyon on 3 occasions. The first was to inquire about rebuilding a smoking engine. They could have made some money off me, but the advice was "Don't bother, it's not worth it." Valuable advice, it turns out. Price: Zero. Second time, I was buying a used car and asked for a complete check. They got it done immediately, pointed out a couple things I would have missed and charged me less than half of what I had previously paid elsewhere for an overall check of a potential purchase. Third: A brake job on a different car. Shimmy in the front wheels when I braked at speed. As I suspected, warped rotors. Fixed that day, no hassle, fair price. I don't see how anyone can give these guys anything less than a superior review. read more

We have taken our cars to Canyon Automotive for over 10 years. We used the dealer for most issues before that. Then we had problems with the 4-wheel drive switch in our suburban. Mike and Jeff looked at it, said it was only a quick fix, didn't charge us for it - I was expecting a large bill. I trust them to be fair and they were and continue to be. Jeff at Canyon Automotive was able to change my oil in less than 24 hours. I called him one afternoon, brought the car in the very next morning, and was driving away in under 45 minutes. I have a Ford Escape Hybrid, a car they'd never worked on before, but he was more than willing to service it. He ordered a special oil filter specifically for my car the day I called, but when I arrived the next morning it turned out to be the wrong one. So he immediately put in a call for the right one and it was delivered less than fifteen minutes later. I got there at 8:15 and asked to have all of this done before 9am in order to get to work on time, and it definitely was - oil filter and all. Fantastic service! read more

I have taken an old Infiniti G20 and a new Pontiac Vibe to Mike and Jeff at Canyon Automotive. All my experiences (despite being car-related) have been excellent. The service has been fast. Jeff and Mike have been very fair and competent. They helped me to make reasonable decisions on how best to fix a stalling problem on the older Infiniti without breaking my wallet. Their prices, on both serious work and on a simple oil change and tire rotation, have been very low. I am happy to have someone I can trust and don't ever plan on going back to the dealer. read more

These guys have fixed multiple things for me. I can't remember the name of the man that usually helps me but he is always friendly and will do things like put my new wipers on for me. He's always honest when I need work done and when I needed new brakes all around but wanted to get rid of the car instead, he put a used brake pad on for me so I could safely drive it until I found a new car. Canyon Automotive is one of the only places I trust anymore. I have been taking my car to Canyon for about 6 years now, and I have never had a problem with them. Prices are usually what was quoted, sometimes cheaper. I moved to Denver a couple years ago and I have had bad experiences at most other garages. It's to the point that I got the AAA towing package so that if my car breaks down I can have it towed all the way to Canyon! I took my '96 civic in to a quick-stop place in Denver for an oil change, and I was told by this shop that I needed about $1300 worth of work. I took it to Jeff for a second opinion and he showed me what really needed to be done AND caught that one of the axles was about to break, which the other shop hadn't even seen. I ended up spending about $800 instead of $1300 because these guys are not out to rip you off. I highly recommend Canyon Automotive. read more

This shop has serviced both of my Hondas regularly, and I have never had any issues with their service. My most recent Timing belt job was one of the more affordable quotes in Boulder, and since then, I've relied on them for my routine maintenance issues. During winter, I slid and got stuck in a ditch on Hwy 36, and they were able to arrange for the tow truck, gave me a good deal on repairing my wheel damage, and sold me a set of 4 brand new Hankook snow tires for less than the area tire dealers quoted. My family and I appreciate their services, & will continue to use them in the future. read more

I have collected and worked on cars for almost 30 years in the Midwest. Recently my daughters moved to Boulder and her car broke down. I had a local shop look at her car and they quoted me $900 to fix it. They were rated very highly on Yelp. I declined the work and instead spoke to Jeff at Canyon. He was ver knowledgeable and friendly over the phone. They fixed my daughters car in less that 24 hours and charged $125. Thats correct $125!. Turns out the other shop was a shakedown. I highly highly recommend Canyon. Not only did the correctly diagnose the initial problem, they identified another small issue and fixed that as well. Very efficient and friendly service. I called Monday afternoon for a service appointment. Mike said he could look at my car Tuesday (the very next day), but couldn't give me a time. I dropped the car off shortly after opening. Mike called in less than a half hour to tell me he had opened the car up and identified the problem. He fixed it by early afternoon! The price was reasonable, Mike identified and fixed the problem I expected,and the car is back to running great! read more
