I'm here now where there's supposed to be big savings, but I still find the prices quite high so I'm not getting anything. The layout is very confusing to me. IIf I want a piece of equipment, I know where to find those sections, but the clothing is quite confusing. The service here is hit or miss. The people on the floor are usually very helpful. At checkout, though it really is hit or mess. I had one person who totally messed up in order as though she didn't know what she was doing, and I had to doublecheck and triple check to make sure there wasn't a mistake on my credit card. However, I've had other times where a more senior person has been very reasonable in rectifying problems with merchandise. It's not my favourite location for layout and I left thinking I'd rather shop online where it's easier to find what you're looking for and there's more organization. I do like how MEC is back in Canadian hands now. As of May 16, it will be under majority Canadian ownership.

I rode down…read moreto French creek and took the passenger ferry to Lasqueti island which was fun in its own right ( about a 20 min ride from parksdale to the French creek marina). The ride around Lasqueti is very pleasant with a couple of beaches to stop at and relatively car free hilly dirt roads . There is a hotel /pub at fakes bay where the ferry lands You need a mountain bike or a hybrid or gravel bike with 32 mm plus tires . Suspension is useful for the sweeping corners that are gravel covered with washboard in some spots. I called Greg at Oceanside outfitters about one minute after closing to try and get a bike for the 9:45 ferry the next day. Greg kindly offered to open the store at 8:30 the next morning and I made the ferry with no problem. He also let me drop the bike off after shop closing time , at his beach rental spot. A really nice guy and I appreciate the above and beyond service and the great bike as well. Stefan

I also brought my son's skates to be sharpened at the same time. Simple enough, right? Apparently not. There was absolutely nobody upstairs in the sports/skate area for a solid 15 minutes while I stood there trying to figure out the process. Eventually I had to go downstairs to customer service. The employee there told me to pay for everything first -- which I did immediately -- and then said SHE would come upstairs to sharpen the skates. So I waited. 20 minutes later, still nobody. My son finally went downstairs to ask what was going on, and her response was: "Oh, nobody came up?" Excuse me? YOU were the one who said you were coming upstairs. She then got on the walkie-talkie to supposedly call someone. Another 15 minutes passed. Still nobody showed up at the sharpening station. The only reason anything finally happened was because I was heading downstairs to complain and happened to run into another employee by chance. I even asked him if he'd received a call to meet me upstairs -- he said no. So in total, after already paying, I waited roughly 40 minutes just trying to get two pairs of skates sharpened. I work hard all day. This was the small window of time I had to do something for my kids, and instead it turned into a complete waste of time because this store is run with staggering incompetence. The staff were disorganized, communication was nonexistent, and management should be embarrassed that they allow the store to operate like this. I will never set foot in this store again.

First time at this SC location…read more I was completely impressed with my entire experience. The store modern, big and bright, with the best merchandising I've seen in a long time. When I first walked in, I was greeted with a smile by a girl working at a welcoming station at the front. I asked where men's shoes were, and she showed me, but also informed me that a sales associate that was in our vicinity could help me. Perfect ! I knew exactly what I needed. I showed him the item on my phone, he looked up the product # on his handheld and off he went to get it for me. He quickly reappeared with box in hand! The shoes were exactly what I wanted and they were on sale for a really great price. I went to the cash area, where there were a few people in front of me. I didn't have to wait for more than a minute or two before it was my turn. The cashier was also smiling and friendly. She showed me how to maximize my points on the Triangle App, then I paid and was on my way. This was a really great shopping experience with customer service that goes above and beyond.

Reza is a champ and immediately got to work. He went through the entire store and pulled so much for me and was so incredibly patient even as I started becoming more picky with the options. While helping me, he was also impressively attentive with another couple who seemed to be last minute shopping as well. Generally speaking, I was really pleased with all of the customer service through out the store. From the moment I walked in, to the check out process on my way out, everyone was super pleasant, even considering the fact that they were officially closed at the time I was checking out. Their prices are lower than most souvenir shops and the couple who manages the store are locals who are friendly and very helpful. This store is a life saver!…read more We are contractors and had a job on Orcas Island. We had never been to Orcas before and were unfamiliar with the area. Before we set out for the island, I looked up local hardware stores (just in case). I found Island Hardware & Supply, called them to make sure they would have what we MIGHT need, hopped in the truck and got on the ferry. OF COURSE it turned out that we DID need some items, so we set off for the Hardware store. We got lost and ended up at the little hardware store in East Sound - we thought we were at the right store, but they didn't have any of the supplies we needed. We were pretty confused until I found out from a local resident that the little hardware store in East Sound is on North Beach Road, and the big hardware store (Island Hardware) is on West Beach Road. So we hopped back in the truck again, and set out to find Island Hardware. (yes, we got losat again...but eventually figured it out) We were so relieved when we located the store and were able to purchase the supplies we needed, because we were thinking that we would have to get on the ferry and drive to the home depot in Mt Vernon (that would have taken forever). Island Hardware had all the stuff we wanted, lumber, tools, big bolts, lag screws, plumbing supplies etc. They even have a couple of little gas pumps which was handy for us. We had the occassion to go back up to Orcas for round two of the job which was exterior painting. The paint we purchased needed to be re-tinted at the last minute. We remembered that Island Hardware had a paint department and took the buckets of paint to them with our fingers crossed. Even though we didn't buy the paint from them, they happily re-tinted it for us...I thought that was pretty generous and excellent customer service!

If anyone is looking for a bicycle, avoid shopping at any Sport Chek store all together because…read morewhat they sell is not worth buying due to poor quality equipment and a lack of replacement parts etc. Sport Chek is owned by Canadian Tire so you might as well go there and buy a bicycle of poor quality. Find a legitimate store that sell good quality bicycles that may be more in price but at least you get a better warranty for the bike plus better quality parts that can be ordered if needed for replacement. The biggest problem with Sport Chek is that their customer service skills are very poor and they have no knowledge when it comes to answering your questions because they have not been properly trained or have any experience in regard to the department they are working in especially bicycles. All they care about is suckering you in to buy a specifically expensive bike so they can make a sale then take your money and after that they basically tell you to flock off and are not helpful in any way afterwards. Even their own head office do not have any care as to how customers feel after being mistreated by specific managers or even some of the employees themselves. After that, they treat you disrespectful and accuse you of being someone you are not which in turn makes anyone not want to come back to any of their stores. Avoid Sport Chek in any way as you will be able to find better quality equipment elsewhere from a trustworthy retail store.
