One liner: chinese cantonese restaurant offering all day dim-sum and traditional chinese dishes --------------------------------- Food: They have a large varied menu for main dishes and a smaller dim sum menu at dinner. We ordered a few dim sum dishes and shared the mixed seafood/vegetable dish, which was pretty authentic, but the dim sum was the highlight. It was an extra 50 cents at dinner - but worth it because they make it fresh! Recommendations: shrimp shumai (the ratio of shrimp to wrapper is so good), steam pork ribs, shrimp dumplings Affordability: about $15-20 per meal, about $5-7/dim sum Ambiance: peaceful vibes, very clean Service: good service, welcoming staff Good for: if you're looking for more traditional authentic chinese cantonese food in Richmond!

Def get the Peking Duck! My friend suggested this place for a last min decision to catch up. Plenty of parking to choose from. I decided to meet with my friend around 5:45 and it was completely empty. Oh, but once it turned 6, the dinner crowd came in and boy was it popular. I was going to get a main dish but when I saw that they had the Peking Duck, I just had to order it. I somehow convinced my friend to split the Duck with me and we didn't have any regrets. In fact, we ended up having leftovers. Haha Service was great and quick. Peking duck seriously hit the spot for us and presentation was there. I will def be returning back! The staffs were friendly, the place is bright and clean; and food is delish. Def a hidden gem that I never really paid much attention before.

My husband and I were finding it a challenge to find good Chinese food in the area. I asked a woman who was doing my nails what her favorite place is, and she told me that she and her family always go here and that I should try it. I did so, on the same day!! And I loved it. This will now be our go-to for Chinese food in Richmond. My husband and I shared the crab rangoon which was super good. I ordered fried dumplings for myself and I absolutely loved them. They were perfect. My husband ordered an egg roll for himself and he enjoyed it. For our meal we shared some orange chicken, shrimp lo mein, and fried rice. All of the dishes were so tasty. The service was excellent. A young man waited on us who was extremely helpful. The restaurant was very clean and it was a nice atmosphere to have a quiet date and conversation. I enjoy going to places where you don't feel like you have to shout over the music or where the roar of people talking isn't so loud. This was such a nice atmosphere. My husband and I were really able to enjoy our meal and conversation. We will definitely be back and with friends, and highly recommend.

Superb. This place is a star. Gather your family, your friend group or some coworkers and stop in. This place is perfect for groups and sharing. The dim sum was outstanding-shrimp dumplings, fried shrimp dumplings and the Piggy buns were the favorites. Mains are large and can feed at least 2 people some maybe even 3 people so keep that in mind when ordering (we ordered too much ) The stuffed eggplant was phenomenal. The shrimp fried rice was also good and kiddo approved. My 9 year old requested I give them 5 stars (I already was planning on it but this was the first time he has wanted his voice known that he was a fan). The service was very good. Everyone was very kind and gracious. The only downside is I think our rice was forgotten so it didn't come until much later. Order a pot of tea-it's 3.00 dollars and a nice addition to your meal. Finally, I'm going to circle back to those piggy buns-it's more of a dessert dim sum as it's filled with a mildly sweet custard. They are adorable and the most perfect not overly sweet treat. Like a warm hug. I was thoroughly impressed.

I tried Cantonese Kitchen today with my sisters for a Tuesday afternoon lunch. On first impression, the ambiance of the restaurant is great. I really liked the dining room, and the furniture and decoration looks modern and sleek. The service was friendly and fast, although the waitress did accidentally get our order wrong (at first, the house special fried rice was brought out instead of the lo mein). Regardless, she handled the situation very professionally and made sure we got the proper dish not long after. The food itself was exceptional and fairly priced. My personal favorite was the stuffed eggplant-- my favorite at most dim sum restaurants. The dim sum was also well made and reasonably priced. I will definitely be returning in the future! :)

Another hard to characterize restaurant. Cantonese Kitchen knows how to cook! Their flavors are really good. But the execution needs work. Iced tea: they brought a pot of very hot tea and a cup of ice. Please, if you don't serve iced tea don't wing it. Just say you have hot tea and soft drinks. Hot and sour soup: Fine, nothing outstanding in either direction. Worth ordering. 1/4 quarter roast duck: served ice cold. Which made it unappetizing to say the least. When we inquired we were told this was the intended service. Not good. Orange beef: Flavors spot on. Really good. But the cut of beef used -- flattened cube steak -- is tough and chewy and not at all up to the quality of nearby restaurants. Portion side was generous, and again the sauce was excellent. It just needs more expensive choices of ingredients. Pork fried rice : Excellent. Service was present and available when we asked for something. And the facility has several large tables for large parties, and both of them were filled. Good takeout volume. So a solid three stars -- "okay." I am willing to try them again at some point.

My family is part Cantonese and we grew up eating all the traditional foods at home and in restaurants. Cantonese Kitchen had all the dishes I grew up eating. Dishes are typically eaten family style, meaning they're shared with everyone at the table. They have plenty of tables and three circular tables with lazy susans for larger parties. All the dishes we had were cooked perfectly and so good. The staff were friendly. The prices were pretty on par with other cities, though the lobster was way more expensive than expected so I'd skip that dish on a casual night out. They did also charge hot tea per each pot refill which I hadn't experienced before. My family and I are so excited to have another Cantonese restaurant in the area and will definitely be back.

Great food, attentive server, menu has a lot of variety. Nice atmosphere. Pork shumai was absolutely delicious. Chicken with cashew nuts made very well. And the beef chow foon was made with many fresh vegetables and delicious sauce. One thing I very much much appreciated was that the flavor of the food was not overpowered by too much salt as it is in many Chinese restaurants.

Y'all, if you're looking for THE BEST Chinese restaurant in Richmond, look no further. After passing my initial beef chow fun barometer, I came back with a group of my friends to try several dishes (the attached picture doesn't include all the dishes we ordered, and we excitedly started eating some of them before the picture was taken). EVERY dish was a hit; I loved the squid, garlic and ginger chicken, bok choy, and every dim sum item. I only wish they had ha cheung fun. I'm so excited to bring my family here when they visit next time!

Really happy a Cantonese restaurant is opened in RVA! I like how there is various dim sum options as well. We were able to try a variety of dishes. I love how they don't skimp on the filling for the shumai and dumplings! Place is very clean and server was very attentive. Hope to go back for more dim sum

I am so excited to finally try Cantonese Kitchen! I love Cantonese food and my family is from Hong Kong so the food here hits home for me. The Seafood Chow Fun was so flavorful and saucy. The ambiance inside the restaurant is beautiful and it's so clean on the interior (bathrooms are also kept very clean). Parking situation is nice as it is located inside of a strip mall. The service was also great and we came in around 8:30PM and still got seated immediately and the food came out quickly. I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes!

Called in our lunch order on a Friday. Apparently there were some level of confusion as I only received half of my order which was still incorrect but I paid and left with what I received. It did take a while for someone to assist at the register tho the restaurant wasn't super busy. An apology was given for the errors. Once my daughter received her plate she was less than pleased with the general tso chicken (not much flavor). Maybe it was a bad day for them, we may retry again.

And it's not dumbed down American Chinese at all. My husband and I both work from home so we get to go have lunch at area restaurants from time to time. We have our regular places and we order Peter Chang's for takeout sometimes, but when we were deciding where to eat and knowing we were short on time, I suggested Peter Chang. For our meal we ordered dumplings, which were amazing. The dipping sauce was to die for...I need to research it and try to make it. We also got the scallion pancake, which came with a curry dipping sauce. Also very good. For lunch there is a menu that is typical of Chinese restaurants where you get a choice of soup (I chose hot and sour) and rice (I chose white rice). For my main I selected hot and numbing chicken from the lunch menu. My husband got three pepper steak. We also got jasmine tea, although if you prefer an adult beverage they have a bar. The food was excellent, service was attentive but not overbearing. It was a great meal and we both have lots of leftovers. The restaurant can be a bit noisy because it's just a big open room, but it's okay. The table next to use was loud talkers with no inside voice, so I got to hear all about their trip to Charlottesville for a concert. Sounds like they had a good time. I wish people were more self-aware about the volume of their voices in public but maybe his ears were wrecked from the concert. P.S. Peter Chang was the chef to a Chinese dignitary like an ambassador so he's the real deal.

It had too much soy sauce and you couldn't taste anything else. The white rice was dry and undercooked. I feel like this is an utter travesty. I was at least expecting good rice. The golden mountain had great flavor but I think it was a mistake to eat it at home. It was mushy by the time we ate it. You can taste the spite in general Tso's chicken. It's like they don't want you to order it. The flavor is just sweet without any complexity. I've had better flavored general Tso sauce from grocery store brands. It was also mushy by the time we ate it. I would never order this again from them.

Walking in, it was completely empty, no customers. By the time I left, several tables were sat and they had a steady stream of carry-out/delivery pickups. The service was very spotty, as they only had two people working the dining room and so many people went without someone checking them in, I waited about 15 mins for my check and those delivery drivers formed a line waiting for their pickups. I tried their spicy cucumber salad and their three pepper beef, but I sub'd out the beef for chicken instead. The cucumbers were decent, they had a nice spice to them and the vegetable itself was fresh. The three pepper chicken came out on a sizzling platter (a fajita platter with aluminum foil on it) and looked pretty good. My first few bites had the great flavor of wok hei, which I love! But I quickly noticed there was no other flavor other than some sort of pickled pepper flavor, which is very odd in Chinese food. The chicken texture was great, but the entire dish was swimming in vegetal oil, it wasn't dry spiced and wok'd. Overall, this visit was only slightly better than the first, only because they were open this time. But I most definitely wouldn't return. I absolutely love and seek out authentic Chinese foods (Szechuan, Hunan, etc) when I travel and those this place offers many authentic style dishes, they seem a little too "Americanized."

The entryway is interesting and provides some shelter from the rain, allowing you to manage your umbrella before entering. We were seated within seconds, and our server, Liza, came by very promptly with some water for our table. I felt slightly anxious at first, being that we were in a cozy two-top amongst the fray, but it subsided quickly because everyone was respectful and reasonably quiet. We ordered the veggie spring rolls to start, and I had the Chinatown Ramen, and my partner had the Chicken Fried Noodles. The appetizer was hot, savory, and spicy with the duck sauce and hot mustard mixture. If you like milder sauce, do not mix it. The entrees came out within five or so minutes of the appetizers, which seemed quick for a busy night. The ramen was spicy, hot, and filling. I was only able to finish about half. We will be enjoying those leftovers tonight. My partner said that her noodles and chicken were well-seasoned and delicious, too. Looking around the restaurant, it is clear that they support the local LGBTQ+ community, and it is even labeled as a Safe Space on the beautifully manicured, makeshift chalkboard/menu/posting board. The clientele and staff alike seemed warm and kind, based solely on limited interactions and observation on my part. If you are looking for a traditional American-Chinese food restaurant (think buffet-style items), this is likely not the place for you. There were no mishaps or snafus with our orders. Liza performed her duties well, and I can surely recommend this restaurant to anyone who doesn't mind a mix of Japanese and Chinese cuisine.
