The restaurant serves Chinese food but I think it is an American version of Chinese food. It was a busy evening on that Friday, 20 June 2025. DECOR - a beautiful restaurant with white and red covered shaded lamps plus a big red dragon hanging on the ceiling. FOOD -- I ordered the Guandong Fried Rice ($10.50) which comes with peas, carrots, and egg. I added shrimp ($5.50) as my protein. A glass of water was also brought out for me. My friend ordered the basil chicken ($18.50) with a Maine Root Beer drink ($4.50). She loved her order. I enjoyed the Guandong Fried Rice with added shrimp. It wasn't overly rich in flavour. The mixture of the peas, carrots, and egg was a simple yet appetizing combination. There was a lot of food on my plate and I may have taken a to-go box home because I remember not being able to finish my dinner. Parking is street parking. If I ever visit Richmond, VA again, then I will definitely come back to Beijing on Grove. **** GOAL of 250 reviews in 2026 - 123/250 total reviews in 2026 - 964 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 7 June 2026

I got these for the road: Dry-Fried Eggplant Crispy with a touch of savory spice plus cilantro, really good. Grandma Noodles Wavy noodles in a savory brown sauce with dried pepper and cilantro. Spicy but good spicy. Much better than the last time I had them, they hadn't congealed yet. When I mixed everything together it was great. Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce Oh yeah. Even with just one spice pepper, this rocks. This is what I remember enjoying from years back. Tender shredded pork in a spicy sauce with garlic and multiple kinds of peppers. Would definitely go back if in the area. Parking was easy in the strip mall next to Walmart. Ordering online was easy and pickup was friendly and quick.

It had too much soy sauce and you couldn't taste anything else. The white rice was dry and undercooked. I feel like this is an utter travesty. I was at least expecting good rice. The golden mountain had great flavor but I think it was a mistake to eat it at home. It was mushy by the time we ate it. You can taste the spite in general Tso's chicken. It's like they don't want you to order it. The flavor is just sweet without any complexity. I've had better flavored general Tso sauce from grocery store brands. It was also mushy by the time we ate it. I would never order this again from them.

I had chicken fried rice and the General Tso's chicken which are the standard dishes I have when searching for Chinese food and they were 10 out of 10. I can't wait to explore more of the menu. The server was a little "crunchy" but it could have been a language barrier, so I'll chalk that up to being lost in translation.

We…read morehave never had the braised beef brisket in casserole before, but have had the hot spicy pork ribs before. We also ordered for delivery which we rarely have ever do. In the order instructions, I asked for the Chinese mustard and duck sauce for the eggrolls, and that was not included in the order. The wonton soup was greasy. The hot spicy pork ribs were tasty and tender. I would only wonder why it has to have so much of the seasoning spices on them to bury it. We were disappointed with the brisket dish. It was plentiful but the seasonings were not our favorite. Also got the fried rice this time where we usually get the white rice. Not a fan of their fried rice. The biggest difficulty I had with the order was that the delivery service which used DoorDash took over an hour to get to us after the order was picked up for delivery. As I'm watching the delivery online in the app, which is a nice service in DoorDash, it did not look like he was coming to us first, and probably dropped two or three orders before us. And then it didn't look like he knew where he was going. Later in the app, I saw that there was a comment that my address was a difficult one to find which I don't understand because it's an apartment in a very central place in town.

The entryway is interesting and provides some shelter from the rain, allowing you to manage your umbrella before entering. We were seated within seconds, and our server, Liza, came by very promptly with some water for our table. I felt slightly anxious at first, being that we were in a cozy two-top amongst the fray, but it subsided quickly because everyone was respectful and reasonably quiet. We ordered the veggie spring rolls to start, and I had the Chinatown Ramen, and my partner had the Chicken Fried Noodles. The appetizer was hot, savory, and spicy with the duck sauce and hot mustard mixture. If you like milder sauce, do not mix it. The entrees came out within five or so minutes of the appetizers, which seemed quick for a busy night. The ramen was spicy, hot, and filling. I was only able to finish about half. We will be enjoying those leftovers tonight. My partner said that her noodles and chicken were well-seasoned and delicious, too. Looking around the restaurant, it is clear that they support the local LGBTQ+ community, and it is even labeled as a Safe Space on the beautifully manicured, makeshift chalkboard/menu/posting board. The clientele and staff alike seemed warm and kind, based solely on limited interactions and observation on my part. If you are looking for a traditional American-Chinese food restaurant (think buffet-style items), this is likely not the place for you. There were no mishaps or snafus with our orders. Liza performed her duties well, and I can surely recommend this restaurant to anyone who doesn't mind a mix of Japanese and Chinese cuisine.

We ordered the Thai Iced Tea (quite literally the best I have ever had in my life) and the Drunken Noodles. I am a pad kee mao aficionado, and theirs were fantastic. The atmosphere was interesting, eclectic if I had to sum it up in a word. There were multiple seating genres, if that makes sense. We sat at the small four-top in the lower area, and the view of the whole restaurant was great for people watching if you're into that sort of thing. We came here with no expectations, and we were blown away. What a hidden gem; we certainly got our money's worth. Whole-hearted recommendation from both of us. Our food came out so fast and hot. I got the braised beef noodles. The broth was light flavorful. I usually don't like coriander but I did not mind it in the broth. The beef was a little too tendon heavy for me. I think it was just the cut I was given. The pieces that did melt away were delicious! The noodles are handmade. They are chewy and perfect. My bf got the Mongolian chicken. The chicken melts in your mouth. So good! We also got veggie dumplings. They took a little more time so we had to take them home. The dipping sauce is to die for. I don't have much Chinese food experience to compare but this was pretty darn good! You can definitely make this place family style and share the plates. We left full and satisfied!
