I will concede that the cocktails and wine were lovely, and the restaurant itself was visually lovely. That is where my compliments end. I was not prepared to be paying as much money as I did to walk up to the bar to order my food and drinks. I was also not prepared for most of it to be lukewarm. The ingredients were quality, sure, but the belief that quality ingredients with little done to it goes out the window when the food is not warm. I am of the belief that if I am spending $90 on a steak, I should have a waiter coming to my table to take my order. At that point I am doing a large portion of the work for you. That's a choice I simply do not understand Paying was no better, as there were numerous issues with charges and the two cards we used were run multiple times. When asked why, we were told only a dollar was charged each time. I will not be returning, and I may be getting a new debit card after what is at best an underwhelming and overpriced evening. read more

Canto VI is the best restaurant and best bar in all of the San Fernando Valley, period. Brian is a gem of a human being. Charismatic, hospitable, funny, and a deep well of knowledge when it comes to wine & food. Ambiance is exactly what you'd hope for in a sexy wine bar, and the live music twice a week is perfection. Chef Chester is a wizard in the kitchen. He has a deep respect and love for European cuisine, specifically old world recipes which complement the old world style wines being served here that change daily. Lance is a very skilled bartender who will make you a perfect cocktail each time and is awesome to chat with. Maleek is the nicest and most hospitable security guard/bouncer/host as well! Wow! All I can say. The valley has been starving for a place like this. Brian and his crew truly delivered one of the best culinary experiences I've had in quite some time. The moment you step inside you forget that you're in Chatsworth. That's a good thing! The casual and comfortable nature of operation provides a wonderful contrast to Brian and Company's serious food and wine skills. His wine pairings and selection are beyond top notch. Our red flight consisted of a Cornas, Bandol and Cab Franc from Loire: All of which were beautiful. The cheese plate actually had amazing cheese for once! I was under the impression the 6th ring of hell made you want to eat more? I am absolutely gobsmacked by the overtly positive reviews. I grew up in the valley- and have been to all kinds of restaurants from very upscale to very casual- especially in the chatsworth and Woodland Hills area. I totally respect what they are attempting to do- bringing an upscale and different dining experience to a - let's say - less than upscale part of town. Drinks were decent. Bartenders were very polite and friendly. But the food completely lost the plot for me- and my entire party. I do notice that the menu today is different than the menu many people are raving about- so maybe the change here is the problem? For the price point, the quality of food was simply not there or up to par with other restaurants. Our bill was approximately a grand and not one person was satisfied with their meal. We had a wide selection of items from appetizers to pasta to steaks and desserts and unfortunately nothing really hit its mark. Many of the dishes could easily be created with similar or better quality at home. Again- not good enough for a grand spent for 8 people. To be honest- when chatting about the food quality at the table- we thought it might be a "cold kitchen" - essentially where they makeshift dishes so they can offer some sort of food with their wine bar experience. Certainly not a gastropub level though. Now after reading the other negative reviews - I'm sure the owner will come back with some snappy remarks but- the reality is the quality of food is simply not worth the money we paid. I also almost never ever leave a review - but given the positive reviews, the prices, and the lack of even basic wait staff- we were disappointed as what we paid in no way levels up to other restaurants in the valley charging the same prices. (More than 100 per person- and some of us didn't even drink) Some positives: Easy parking Some of the apps were interesting and tasty. The soft salami and Fennel was decent. GOAT cheese tart was ok. Drinks everyone seemed happy with They gave a couple of complimentary items which was generous. As for the mains and desserts- it's a no from me. One person ordered the steak that is supposed to serve 2 - for 90 bucks- and it was about the size of a 8-9 oz filet plus some bone. He ate the whole thing on his own. Came with 5 smashed potatoes and butter topping. To be fair- it was cooked very well and was tasty- just not 90 bucks worth Every other entree was a miss, cold, or both. Two of us ordered what the menu described as a skirt steak with burned onion something or other. What we got was cold sliced strips of balsamic glazed skirt steak on top of an arugula and radicchio salad. For 38 dollars a head. Again it wasn't bad. It just was nowhere worth the money and could easily be made at home. Pasta dishes were also mid. Orange budino was literally whipped cream with orange essence and ground pistachios on top. Again they may be just working the kinks out of the menu but for the price- I had to warn my fellow Dante's inferno enthusiasts. read more

Ok, I went back and had a more than 5 star experience. They remodeled the bar and it makes perfect sense for how the owner works the space. Great change. What an amazing experience. I so wish Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks had a place like this. The most alluring atmosphere and vibe coupled only with unforgettable and delicious food, I felt like I was back in Italy, it is an experience to be savored. Chef Chester came out to say hello and really has all the culinary integrity in the world. It's no wonder that he is a well deserved Michelin star chef. The Lamb Frites were out of this world, the lamb, one of the best I think I have had. The blend of citrus is the perfect component to this dish. Our charred cherry tomatoes and focaccia with whipped feta was so fresh and pleasing to the palette with its brightness and flavor. Shrimp on a bed of light and airy polenta was just as delicious! Brian, at the bar is unbelievably knowledgeable and has curated the most obscure and compelling wine collection. A Sommelier with over 20 years at the famous Melise in Santa Monica. We did a fabulous pairing of unique French and Italian wines from complex to crisp and enjoyed each one. Adding another spectacular Bordeaux to cap off the night. The ambience, menu and service is nothing short of exceptional. We found the entire experience to have good value and very reasonable priced. A welcome change dining out. This spot is cute but service is nonexistant and the food was mediocre at best. The menu needs to be reworked and focus needs to be placed on execution. The only reason to come here would be for the live music when they have it and if you drink wine. We ordered a couple appetizers and a pasta dish for my main and everything was just meh. The pasta tasted more like box mac n cheese than anything special. This place wants to act upscale but not deliver anything upscale. No servers!! You wait in line to order from the bar from people who don't seem too inclined to give food recommendations but are just fine presenting tip options when you check out. Last, we were all but rushed out because there was a reservation after us. We were there for less than two hours and there were other empty tables. This place has some work to do. read more

What a gem! I came here on a Wednesday night and, at first, wasn't sure if it was open, but it was. The food here DID. NOT. MISS! The grilled calamari was buttery and firm, side salad complemented the other foods well, the grape gazpacho amuse buche was a delightful start, the fries were generously portioned, well seasoned, crispy yet tender, and the ending sorbet's minty citrus taste rounded off the meal well. The wine flight selection offered nice diversity and paired well with the food. And the service was friendly, professional and unpretentious. The menu looked pretty good with a lot of things you're not going to find in Chatsworth... My first thought; "Wow. Whoever chose this location for this particular restaurant is either ballsy & willing to work VERY hard for our business or very inexperienced or just didn't have enough money to open in Woodland Hills or Calabasas, maybe?" The food was decent. The desserts & coffee, much better. But the atmosphere was empty & not happy. Also, draped fabric on the ceiling has never been a favorite of ours. It always collects years and years of dust until it eventually sprinkles down on the diners. How often do you suppose they vacuum up there? A wine bar offering innovative, seasonal cuisine and a thoughtfully-curated selection of wines has finally landed in the Valley - and we have Brian Kalliel to thank for it!! The food and ambience are wonderful. Guests are encouraged to consult with Brian and his staff for guidance in wine pairings with each course. The list is ever-changing with old-world by-the-glass selections that one would rarely see on any ordinary wine list. We started off with some of the most creative dishes I have tasted in LA. The whipped feta with lemon served with flatbread was just sublime, though my personal favorite was the fennel sausage on crostino with smoked mozzarella. I could have just stopped there and been happy, but we decided to venture on and share a few entrees. Wild shrimp flambeed on polenta, lamb chops with frites, guinea hen and bitter greens...Chef Hastings nails it! Generous servings with prices that are truly affordable. I would have expected to pay double anywhere else on the Westside. We ended with an affogato and a refreshing, lemon-lime granita with mint that was light but satisfyingly wonderful. We've been to Canto VI twice so far - New Year's Eve and last month, and the food, the wines and the service were all excellent. It is so nice to have an excellent restaurant/wine bar in this part of the valley. Oh, and both times we really enjoyed the live music! Whether you are a seasoned wine afficionado or a newbie, just ask the owner or the bartender for recommendations, and you won't be disappointed. My wife and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary here. It was a breeze to make reservations. It was our first time here and they made an impression on us before we walked in. When we approached the door, it was locked. I thought we had walked up to the wrong entrance. Someone opened the door after we knocked and once our reservations were confirmed we were welcomed in. The service was warm and friendly from our first interaction with the gentleman that opened the door. The restaurant was low lit and had a neighborhood vibe to it. They were very helpful with recommendations and answered all our questions eagerly about the menu items. We ordered a bone in filet and a few appetizers, all of which tickled our fancy. Before we left, we were given a free dessert in honor of our celebration directly from the owner. We were thoroughly impressed by their hospitality and eagerness to impress. We had a fantastic experience and cannot wait to go back with our friends. They have live music on certain nights, so we are hoping to experience that aspect of Canto VI on our next dining excursion. Ask him or one of their very knowledgeable servers and bartenders for a recommendation for food or beverages and you won't go wrong. The food was a perfect foil for the wine. Every bite was incredible. Compliments to the chef. The ambiance is great and the music is not too loud to talk but loud enough to hear the excellent choices playing. The ceiling has draped fabric on it which muffles the ambient noise. I can't think of any negatives and they have only been open for 2 weeks. Local resident here. We were excited to see a new, maybe more upscale restaurant in the neighborhood. Thought it would be a more traditional restaurant. It's not. Thats ok, we're open to new things. So we went last night. They keep the front door locked. Why keep the door locked? Random security guy comes and asks if you have a reservation. We didn't and he was about to turn us away. We're thinking this place must be packed. It was about 730pm. There was one group of five at table and three people sitting at the bar. We wanted a table but random security guard insisted we sit at the bar. So we sit at the bar. There's a guy, I'm assuming "Brian" standing with his back to us. We waited about five minutes and the guy not once turned to welcome us or even let us know he'd be with us in a moment. Absolutely nothing. Just sat there staring at each other wondering how we order food, find a table or just order an over priced glass of wine. We got up and left.... Sorry, as expensive as I know our visit would have been and with no wait staff to assist, we expected just a little more than a locked front door and an uninterested bar tender. Absolutely boring!!!These folks missed the mark. It's Chatsworth!!!!!! ****Update... 45 seconds my a.... Easily 5 minutes. You would have gotten more mileage by sticking to the technical problems excuse and apologizing rather than blame your customer. There's a reason it's empty.
