Our first time here on a Tuesday night at 8:30pm (30 min before closing). Staff were very welcoming and our server gave us some great background about the restaurant. It was described as inspired by Monterey, Mexico cuisine which takes influence from BBQ and Mediterranean. Dishes are shared family style and it's recommended to get a few different things to try. For appetizers, we ordered the guacamole which came with housemade tostadas and the Tetela (basically a stuffed pita pocket with succotash - corn mix and beans and yogurt - reminded me of a samosa. We also got the special which was a chorizo open faced gordita (which was my fave). For the main dish we tried the cortadillo (beef stew) and got a side of red rice and beans. It was definitely enough for two plus leftovers. Drinks were pricey - I got La Pila (which tasted like an alcoholic coconut horchata) and my bf got a Paloma (but it tasted more like orange juice rather than grapefruit)...so that is the only critique we had. Overall a great time, excellent service, aesthetically pleasing, and delicious! Hoping this restaurant succeeds because it's definitely a gem.

I recently dined here on Valentine's Day--had a reservation, and I really appreciated that even though they offered a set menu option, you can still order off the regular menu. Parking is free, but it was super busy that night, so finding a spot was a bit of a challenge (though I'd imagine it's easier on a normal night). We were greeted with friendly smiles and seated promptly in a new, warm, and inviting space. That said, the tables are a bit too close together, so it got a bit noisy. Also, there wasn't a seat at the bar, and overall, the atmosphere was on the louder side. Our server was very kind and took the time to explain the menu in detail. This isn't your typical Mexican restaurant--it's more elevated and curated, with a focus on flavors from the northern Monterey region. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and the drinks were excellent. Portions are modest, and prices reflect the quality of ingredients and inflation. If you are looking for a 3 item combo enchilada, taco rice and bean plate with pre-made margaritas for $20 this is not the place. I gave 4 stars because of the space just fell short for me. I would love to experience this food in a more intimate location. It's a unique dining experience, great for special occasions or when you're looking for something different. I am glad this place is in Folsom and even the Sacramento area as it is a unique menu. I'm looking forward to trying their happy hour next time (they do have a ample selection of tequilas)

As someone who rarely leaves the grid restaurant scene (and with Canon as easily one of my favorite restaurants), I couldn't resist making the trip up the hill to try the restaurant opened by two of Sacramento's premier chefs (Canon's Brad Cecchi and Nixtaco's Patricio Wise - both Michelin-rated chefs). Overall, I'd summarize that it was a great experience at a unique new restaurant! We booked a later reservation (7:30) for 6. As a new hot spot, the place was slammed when we arrived so it took a little bit for our drinks to arrive but we didn't mind (we were seated right away upon arrival at an awesome half circle booth in the corner which felt like the best seats in the house so we were very content, plus the restaurant interior is gorgeous. Matt Lechowick is the interior designer and really put his special touch here and created a very cool vibe!). We ran into a friend who was sitting at the bar and had come earlier and found the service a bit challenging so given how busy it was, I was glad we did a later reservation and a table as our experience was a lot different (our service and food experience was fabulous!!) We brought our own wine but also opted to kick things off with their in-house margarita. It's served in an adorable miniature martini glass and was quite good - more like a cocktail and not sweet like a traditional margarita (albeit very "alcohol forward!"!) Their menu is best enjoyed family style so we ordered all at once and they brought it out in waves. They kicked us off with their complimentary "chips" and salsa which they put their own unique spin on - think housemade tostadas vs. corn chips (it was amazing) We also got the guacamole which was fresh and good. The queso was definitely some of the best queso I've ever had (the peppers that came with it were also delicious). The beets were also surprisingly yum with a nice smoky flavor. We got 3 different types of crudos (shrimp, fish, and scallops). All were very good (fresh, flavorful) but the shrimp was the favorite for me. For the larger plates, we did the cauliflower, pork belly, and snapper. If I had to rank I'd go pork belly, snapper, cauliflower but honestly they all were phenomenal (for the vegetarian in our group, the cauliflower served as her entree where for the rest of us it was more a yummy side with a nice flavor) For dessert we all split the chocolate flan and pecan pie. Really enjoyed both (it was hard to pick a desert because their dessert menu was really interesting!). My husband also got an espresso martini that he shared with me, which was very well made and delicious too (and again in an adorable mini martini glass!). I was also surprised our bill was not bad for a nice place like this and given everything we consumed - though most likely due to that it was family style (which I really enjoyed because we got to try so many different dishes!)

My parents had a gift card here so we made a reservation. The inside could use some work with making it feel a little warmer. We were seated at a table with booth and chair seating, the booth was a bit uncomfortable. We started with the classic margarita and the sol dorado. We all agreed the drinks were great! The restaurant has small plates and larger items to share. We started with the chips and salsa, I'm more of a classic chips girl not big round chips you break off but the salsa was good. We got the mushroom sope to start which was really good and I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms. We got the shrimp aguachile (insanely good!), pedregal salad (yummy), stuffed sweet potato (I would come back just for this), grilled octopus (yum), grilled black chicken, and refried beans. Overall the food was good, but it's pretty expensive. Glad we got to try.

The food was great and has a nice date night ambiance inside. I'm not a fan of sweet potato at all but we order it with the waiter's recommendation and I'm so happy we did. It was the best part! The ceviche could have had a little more of a kick to it and the cocktails were on point! Wish more restaurants open up in sac like this.

New veggie friendly spot! They have a good amount of already identified vegan options but if you ask your server there are more that you can modify to be vegan. Excellent service and really cool aesthetic, great drinks too!

Our experience at Cantina Pedregal was absolutely fantastic from start to finish! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Hazel, who seated us at the perfect table to enjoy the restaurant's lively, colorful ambiance. Doug, our server, was knowledgeable about the menu and made several wonderful recommendations that really elevated our meal--especially the Almas Perdidas cocktail, which was a standout! The entire Cantina Pedregal team made our evening feel special with attentive, friendly service that made every course a treat. We started with the chips, salsa, Matcha Salsa, and guacamole, which were all deliciously fresh and flavorful. The Caesar Salad was a unique twist and so refreshing! The roasted cauliflower and snapper were expertly prepared, and we loved pairing them with the classic beans and rice--every bite was packed with authentic Mexican flavors. We left thoroughly impressed and can't wait to come back. Viva la Mexico! Cantina Pedregal, you have our highest recommendation!

We had a lovely dinner here the other night. First impression of the decor was lovely. We ate inside. I would have loved to eat on their spacious patio but it was too hot. Ordering was a bit stressful. I'm not kidding, the menu comes with a glossary! We gave up trying to figure out exactly what we were ordering and focused on ingredients we liked. We were not disappointed. Everything was delicious. You can really taste the canon and Nixtaco influence in the dishes. I hope people give this place a try despite the menu as the food is so great and unique.

A lot of people ask us to try their food because the chef has a Michelin star When we got there my chair had a nail in it that poked through my pants and I asked the waiter to change it Probably we didn't order right but the food was blend, the pasta had no flavor, the beans were like they were straight from a can. We expected more from a Michelin star chef. Overall it was not a good experience The table was against the wall and it was so cold inside

Visited on a Saturday, 6:30pm reservation. I ordered the mushroom sope ($14), which was delicious but salty. Cauliflower ($16) was tasty, but oily. Drinks are ridiculously tiny for the price, and took 30+ minutes to be served drinks! Guacamole ($12) was only plated with a few chips. My friends ordered a house salad ($18) that was covered with cheese and dressing, even though they asked for it on the side. They ordered a pork stew ($29) which was also small, and Brussel sprouts w/ machaca on them ($15), which they liked, though it was greasy. The refried beans come with a pile of expensive cheesy topping (burrata). No option for plain black beans or pinto beans, which would have been nice. I would have given 3 stars, but I lowered my rating to 2 stars due to it being extremely LOUD inside, and poor service, and incorrect pricing on the menu (Im not sure which dish I was overcharged $1, but if they do this all day, they are making a lot of extra money in a dishonest way.) Warning: If you go in a group of people, it is so loud, that it's difficult to carry a conversation. The ceiling is high, and there is no carpet or anything to absorb the sound. It was cold inside the restaurant, and our chairs were uncomfortable. We definitely will not return to Pedregal.

    Ensalada Padregal and Aquachile

Wow! Opening night did not disappoint. My husband and I had fairly realistic expectations thinking there would definitely be kinks to work out. But everything was excellent. Service was top notch, food came out fast and hot, and everything was delicious. Here's what we ordered: Aquachile scallops - really refreshing and delicious. The only complaint I have is that I wish there was more. 8/10 Ensalada Padregal - DO NOT SKIP THIS DISH. Yes, it's a salad but it was INCREDIBLE. Huge portion and the lettuce was chopped (best way to eat a salad in my opinion) and there was a mountain of cheese on top. The dressing was tangy and perfectly complimented everything. I will be dreaming of this salad. 11/10 Tacos Cabrito - SOOOO yummy and flavorful. The tortilla ripped pretty easily so it was messy but the meat was juicy and flavorful. 9/10 Cazuela di Asado - THE. SAUCE. You will be licking the plate. And the orange really lifting this dish and added some great acidity. 10/10 Queso fundito - my husband's favorite. Sooo stringy and yummy. Especially good with the pork. 10/10 Frijoles - soooo delicious. But I do wish it was a bigger portion 8/10 Guacamole - this was the only meh item bc there was a lot of onion (for my taste) but honestly, you can get guac anywhere. 4/10 Loved every bit of our dinner. Was too full for dessert but we'll definitely be back!

We are very fortunate to live near this restaurant of elevated Mexican food. The restaurant is clean, modern, and casual with upbeat Mexican music playing in the background. The hostess and wait staff were all super friendly and helpful. We tried a little bit of everything. The cocktails were poured small so didn't have much effect on our spirits. The guacamole and the unique sope de Huitlacoche were great hits. The entrees took over 30 minutes to come out but were worth the wait. The snapper was moist and well seasoned. The diced pork was intensely flavored and unlike what I've ever had before. The desserts were very good and distinctly different than more traditional versions. Overall a great experience worth trying.

Finally! Amazing Mexican food that's authentic and amazing in Folsom! I brought my family yesterday for lunch. The service was top notch and the food was incredible. Bravo for hitting the mark right on opening day! I can't wait it come back... the drinks were solid, the salad, appetizers and main dishes were drool worthy. Thank you Cinthia, Patricio and Brad for bringing your vision so close to home.

Ask the Community - Cantina Pedregal

Can I order off the dinner menu at lunch?

I would imagine (although we didn't ask) if you're willing to pay the dinner price they would allow that. It looks like the entrees are about $4 more at dinner.
