This place has been around for forever! I hadn't been here in ages and it was even better than I remember it. Well staffed and everyone was so kind and welcoming. The corn chips were great and the flour chips were fresh and warm! We had the taco salad with carne asada, a shredded beef taco, and an enchilada. I was stuffed afterwards. The meat was fantastic... the flavor and texture. The servings were generous. And the food came out quite quickly despite the restaurant being at least halfway full. Hmm, guess I was there on an off night. Came in last night (Tuesday) around 5:45 and the place was packed; took the last parking spot way down by the personal trainer's studio. Promising! Ordered to-go ... first of all, the menu is outdated so what should have been my bill was $10 higher than I thought. I get it, prices go up. But when my bill was $70 and not the $50 I was expecting, I was curious. I was charged an additional $1.50 for each item that had chicken in it (mind you the menu noted there would be that extra charge for burritos and every one of those items was a taco). Then I was charged for chips and salsa when the menu said those came with the meals. So the $10 upcharge is now at $18; there's the $20 difference. Now the food. Chips were stale and unsalted. I got two salsas: one that was too spicy to eat (I had asked for mild or medium) and one that was reminiscent of a ketchup base. Hard-shell chicken taco (I asked for soft): zero flavor (but the cheese was good). Soft chicken taco: I wouldn't know as these were my daughter's but she asked where I picked up dinner because the chicken had zero flavor. 0/5 stars on the upcharged chicken tacos - guess I should have stuck with cheese tacos and avoided the upcharge. Carne asada soft taco: this one was OK, meat was a little dry but at least it was seasoned; probably the best item in the order for 3.5/5 stars. I'd say I'd give them another chance, but ask more questions before handing over an extra $20 because that's totally on me ... but when your disappointed hungry kid tells you her food has no flavor, that's a hard no for this mama bear. read more

My husband and I had heard La Placita was a good spot, so we decided to give it a try. We got there around six on a Friday night and waited about twenty minutes for a table. There were quite a few people waiting, which made us feel like it would be worth it. Once we were seated, we were served chips and salsa right away, which was a great start. I ordered the carne asada and my husband got a burrito, enchilada, and taco. Everything was very tasty and really hit the spot. When you walk into the shop it feels very homey with a fair amount of booth and tables. They give you chips upon arrival with spicy and mild salsa. The chips came out fresh and the salsa was delicious. Staff were very attentive as they refilled our chips and water without us having to say anything. I got the quesadilla which came with rice and beans. It tasted very homemade. Cheese was melted nicely, tortilla was toasty creating a crispy outer layer. It wasn't at all greasy which I liked. My boyfriend got the Patrick burrito which had a ton of flavor. Apparently it is one of the most popular items on the menu, and for good reasons. We were on the early side so were sat immediately by the friendly hostess. The service was attentive and quick. The atmosphere was that of a family run restaurant with a few outside tables and an inside dining room. Two groups of 11 were just sitting down when we left. Hot Salsa - 8 Spicy with an almost taco sauce flavor Mild Salsa - 3 Tastes like tomato sauce..mix it with the hot one! Beef enchilada - 5 - Taste like a enchorito from Taco Bell. Lacking in flavor Chile Relleno - 4 Not crispy, not a flavorful sauce Rice - 6 Not much flavor and slightly overcooked Refried Beans - 6 - Not much flavor but cheese helps Service here is amazing and the staff is super friendly. So after finding another "Hole In The Wall" Mexican Restaurant, my wife and I decided to try this place today. Oh My Goodness, I'm so glad that we did. When we walked in we were immediately seated and after sitting for about 3 minutes we had Chips & Salsa brought to us. They bring out 2 kinds of salsa, medium and spicy. So the medium has just a little bit more spice than my wife is used to and the spicy was spicier than I'm used to. Which dont get me wrong, there are days that I can do Habanero spiciness but today wasnt one of those days that I wanted anything spicy. But onward we go with our La Placita Experience. After we got our Chips & Salsa, a lady came over and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink. I ordered Sprite and my Wife ordered a Dr. Pepper but after she told me that they have Horchata I really wanted to drink that instead. So after our drinks came to us I then ordered Huevos Rancheros and my wife ordered a Taco Salad with shredded Beef. My waitress then asked about if I wanted Flour or Corn Tortillas. Since I'm from Southern California you dont eat Mexican with Flour Tortillas. I mean you can but, for authentic Mexican you want Corn. Let me tell you that the Staff was very friendly, Professional and kept coming over to check on us to make sure that we didnt need anything extra. However they did fill up my wifes Drink a couple of times and with me drinking my Horthata, I savor that and so I didnt drink it very fast. Our food came and mine was hot, and my wifes food was hot but when we noticed the Taco Salad was very big. She began eating her Taco Salad and said that she didnt like the meat very much because it was spicy. Being that she doesnt do Spice, she just added Ranch to her Taco Salad and became bearable for her to eat. Me, I was just eating my Huevos Rancheros and my Corn Tortillas. The only thing I would do differently is I would leave the House Sauce off because it had Green peppers and I'm not really a big fan of that. Let me tell you my wife and I left full and the one thing I noticed is that as we were sitting there eating, people kept coming in. When we walked in the place was semi-packed. After we left the place was very full and there were even people sitting outside waiting to get in which tells me that if a restaurant has people waiting, you are certainly doing something right. Thanks La Placita for a very good experience. Being that we got a surprise in the beginning with Fried Flour Tortillas, Guacamole and Pico De Gallo for free, it was very delicious as well, so we will be back. The one main reason why I'm giving this a 5 Star is becuase of how they treated us and the food they fed us. Very delicious in my opinion. The food has always been consistently delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices won't break the bank. It's no surprise the place is usually packed in the evenings -- locals know how good it is! My personal favorite is the Patrick Burrito Grande -- strips of steak with sautéed tomato, bell pepper, onion, rice, beans, and cheese. So delicious! Got the enchilada special and a burrito and it was so bland I thought this needs some salsa, but their salsa has no flavor no spice, no kick, my Safeway made green salsa saves the meal, how sad is that! Chips had a grainy taste so bad and not fresh tasting and the good thing I could stop on one chip! Bad thing is I wanted to enjoy the bag! You know who likes the chips my CHIWEENIE! Came here with my boys and my mom to eat. The food is always so good and great sizes for what you pay for it. The service is always great and the staff is always friendly and helpful and welcoming. The restaurant is always clean and so are the bathrooms as well. I have been coming here my whole life and they have watched my kids grow up and my self grow up as well. Not sure if I just caught this place on a bad night or what, considering everybody else seems to love it. This is, impressively, the most bland food I've ever had from a restaurant. The tacos tastes like there's no seasoning-- not even salt-- beyond what was on the tortillas. The salsa tastes like tomato juice with a pinch of salt and pepper. The enchiladas taste like a drop of tabasco was used for an entire batch of sauce. If that's what you like, then it's otherwise alright. The staff are great, and the environment is fine. But if I wanted dull chicken and flour, I could do that at home for half the time and a quarter of the price. read more

La Placita is long standing neighborhood restaurant in Orangevale. For the past 34 years, they have been serving up basic, simple, delicious Mexican food. The kind that was popularized in the States in the 1970s. The food and the place is not trendy nor fru fru fancy. The dishes are old school, comfort at prices at reasonable prices. The customer service is phenomenal. Every time I dine here, which is not that frequent , I am welcomed like a long lost friend. I feel very at ease and welcomed here. The clientele is diverse. This place has an easy going family friendly local neighborhood vibe. Again this place is not much to look at from the outside nor the inside. The shopping strip looks sketch but I have had no issues. The inside is basic old school table and booths. Dining room is one big open room with tables set close to each other. Not really conducive for privacy. The noise level can get loud once it gets filled which is all the time during peak dining time. The food... well I noticed folks either like it or don't. Hubs grew up with this type of food from his childhood. He luvs the food here, at La Placita, ... tacos, enchiladas, tamales, chile rellenos... all of it including the beans, rice, and salsa roja. The food and flavors are reminiscent to that generation of cuisine. I on the other hand am one of the folks that find the food filling, simple, and comforting. Not so much a gastronomical delight. My favorite item is the ground beef enchilada. Yummy ground beef, with chopped onions, baked in a corn tortilla in red sauce. Also being lactose intolerant, I have to remember to ask for no shredded cheese on top of the refried beans and entrees because they are generous with the cheese. The complimentary chips are served with a mild and a spicy hot version of salsa roja. I like the mild version. The spicy one is too woohoo spicy for me. The staff makes sure the chips, salsa, and drinks were filled. I rarely saw the bottom of the chip basket, salsa bowls, and my water glass. read more

We have been coming to La Placita, and also went to La Placita dose when it was open for probably over 30 years. This is the best and most authentic Mexican food around. The owners and the waiters and waitresses are amazing. The atmosphere is wonderful we only stray when we are out of state, and even then the food does not meet la Placitas standards. Not good. I asked the waiter what the most popular item on the Menu is and he said definitely the Patrick Burrito, so I ordered that. The carne asada is very plain and unseasoned, almost like it was boiled in hot water to cook it. Not very authentic Mexican food, and you can tell by the crowd that eats there, if you know what I'm saying... the service was pretty good though, and friendly staff. Chips were good. The rice and beans were also good. I would compare the quality of the food and "carne asada" to that of Adalbertos... there are plenty of other great authentic Mexican spots nearby.
