I think this is the closest thing to a food "hole in the wall" Islington has. Just five weeks ago…read moreCafé Brasileiro popped up as a clean, tasty and friendly establishment. It's also adorable with a lovely man serving and making all the food out the back. I walked past this place this morning and thought, "I must pop in for lunch, this place looks too cute." I'm so glad I did! Browsing the menu there is a host of Brazilian home baked delights on offer, from chicken croquettes to cheesey dough dumplings. I went for one of their home made sandwiches filled with egg mayo and tonnes of salad. That with an apple cost no more than £3. What a great value lunch. They do have a little sitting area for 2 people that you can eat at. It's really nice because you can sit and watch the world go by while munching your lunch. I am so going back here to try the rest of their menu as well as their coffee. Well done Café Brasileiro, I can't wait to see you grow ever popular with the locals.

So I really didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he said that he moving on and to be replaced by a Vietnamese cafe (my second favourite food in the world). Turn it to red. The building is lovely, architecturally at least. The interior decor wasn't so great. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, just nothing particularly right either. It's a great space which could have had a really nice Brazilian themed feel, but it's just got some square black tables and generic leather chairs partnered with inoffensive piped music. It could be any restaurant anywhere. The menu online looked really good buy I felt like it failed to live up to its potential. We visited on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't very busy, which perhaps didn't help. The buffet dishes would have been really good but they hadn't been refreshed, the things which should have been hot no longer were and some of the things which were meant to be cold were obviously flagging a little. Perhaps on a busy night this is better but for us it wasn't great, and as my girlfriend is vegetarian this was her entire meal. You could argue this isn't really a place for vegetarians, and I would agree. The real draw of Brazilian BBQ is the lure of endless varied meats and here is no exception. The meats were mostly pretty good, nicely cooked and well infused with various seasonings and marinades. A couple of chicken offerings were the exception to the rule, I don't know what they had been subjected to before arriving on my plate but they were hard enough to throw through the living room window of someone you don't like. Certainly more than a match for my dentistry. Full BBQ menu was £23, vegetarian option £11. We had a drink each and no dessert and spent just over £40. I left full but not feeling like it represented good value for money, nor particularly compelled to return.

The meat was good (although a few bits under-done), the salads not bad and the cocktails very well done - finally a barman who can make a decent caiprinha! - The only downside was the rice, which had stood for too long and was lacking garlic, and the lack of treats like Pão de Queijo. The service was excellent. Some of the waiting staff were clearly new, but very attentive and prompt. I'll certainly be going back - the management seem very keen to improve and I am sure they'll only get better.

Places with supposedly endless supplies of meat carved at your table. However, based on my experience, I fail to understand how this business stays viable. We arrived at 1pm. There was only one other party, and they looked native brazillian. We were shuffled to a table in a very tightly packed area where getting out would be difficult. We asked if we could re-locate and reluctantly the guy serving us agreed. A major difficult is that the staff say very little and presume you understand exactly how this whole Rodizio Grill works. Where more people came in during lunchtime with their Groupons, the confusion on what to do was repeated, and the waiter absolutely looked like he was tired of actual businessa and having to interact with people. Whilst I try not to always judge a place on service, this person interacted with customers with borderline contempt. It's fair enough if you're stressed. But this is your job, and to ruin my perception of the business is not any fault of mine. Anyway, to make things worse, we arrived just after a powercut had taken out the electricity. It was quite sunny outside which made the interior look all that much darker. We were not told anything regarding this, just to start helping outselves to the salads and other buffet style food laid out in the back of the shop. It's incredibly difficult when you can't actually see anything! Not to mention it took about 30 minutes for any meat to start appearing... Onto the meats. Given the description of the voucher, I was under the impression that the meat would be cooked to order. However, meat comes around in cycles every 10-15 minutes and you don't get a choice! It's either Yes/No to that round. As non-beef eaters, there were then rounds we couldn't partake in. The one highlight of the experience is that the grill chef noted this and didn't offer us any more beef and went out his way to substitute beef rounds with either pork chicken or lamb. That said, the variety is not as wide as the groupon claims. Not once did chicken heart appear. And some meat was near on inedible. What we did get to try were lamb, pork sausage, pork shoulder, chicken thigh and pork belly. A lot of this was tough, chewy. However when meats came around again, they would sometimes be better or worse. Either way, it was disappointing. Not to mention we were asked a few times whether we had finished, the first time after only having had 2 meat servings. Almost felt like we were being rushed out. The salads/rice/beans were good, but were nothing special. We felt the meats were supposed to be the attraction, but were not good enough, whilst being filled with salad that were actually a lot better. The cocktail was good, but again, I thought we would get a choice. But all you get is Cachaça, which I can't complain about, since I love it. Also the dessert is just an Iceland style chocolate gateau. Disappointing to the max. My dad asked if were could have instead the blackforest gateau right next to it. We were strictly told no. I was surprised, as it wouldn't have cost them anything more, and bought them some goodwill. In all we didn't feel well treated during this lunch and would never go back again. The Groupon choice was restricted to items not clearly explained at the start, service was abrupt and contemptuous, food not near good enough to serve to paying public. I really wanted to have my mind changed about Brazillian food, but this only cemented my bad (personal) experiences with it. Other Groupon holders seemed to be going through a similar experience as eye contact said everything. How this company even managed to sign up to Groupon given the horrendous difficult making a telephone booking is beyond me.

Wide range of choices and waiter is happy to bring out any meat you are waiting for. Live music was entertaining and added to atmosphere. This was a bad day for us. Not commenting on the food as that was not too bad. Please be careful on…read moreyour bill as they try to overcharge you. We went to the braza in romford on Sunday april 10th which is a one stop price of £24.99 irrespective if you come for lunch or dinner. My partner and myself were a walk-in, as we were convinced by the owner who asked us to try it, when we stopped to take a look. We only ordered the two meat buffets for myself and partner which should have come to £50. We had tap water and had no extras. When we asked for the bill the card machine came to the table. I paid by tapping my card and the waitress was walking away when I asked her to give me a copy of the reciept. She gave me a receipt for £62.68 with no breakdown. At the time we were rushing to catch a train back to London so we didnt query it. It was only when I sat down in the train that I realised I was overcharged. I called the next day from London and the girl (who said she was karen) said there is a 10% service charge. I reminded her that the waitress was walking away without giving me a reciept and in no way had she even mentioned about a service charge nor asked if I would agree to it. I definitely would have refuted it, as we were already paying the highest price on a Sunday, than any other day for the buffet alone. Besides a 10% service charge would be around £5 more and we paid £12.68 more. She then said to write an email with the copy of the bill, which I did then and there. It has been day 8 and no one has resolved it. I have called on the 11th &12th april and they said they still have not seen the email and that they are very busy and that there was no one called Karen and they will call back with a resolution, but havent heard from them. Customer service is definitely not their priority, they billed me £12.68 pounds for nothing and I fear this must be happening to lots of customers who dont normally check their bill as they trust the restaurant or to those who are inebriated. They do have a camera so they can definitely check that we have not drank or ate anything extra other than the buffet. I asked to speak with the owner and the service staff kept trying to put that off saying they will look at the email and get back to me. They do come around many times to get you to order other extras, which I understand they have to do as a business in upselling etc, but if we had not stood our ground and never ordered anything else, it is not right to try to sneak it in the bill. Hoping this gets resolved soon but people please be aware, check your bill and ask questions or you may be paying for food and drink you never ordered.
