The two caregivers we have had so far were excellent. They both found things to help with and didn't need much prompting from me. I am surprised to see any reviews that are low as I would give six stars if I could. Their intake process was highly professional and their business shows a high degree of organization at all levels. My only gripe is when the regular caregiver is unable to come. Honor Care doesn't seem to have a backup system in place. So, most of the time no replacement comes or they able to come only at different hours. I could be wrong, but it feels like they treat caregivers like Uber drivers. Instead of proactively having a backup list or making phone calls, it feels like they just open up a slot and hope somebody responds. I could be wrong, but that is the way it feels.

As anyone familiar with having a loved one with dementia knows, because our loved ones with this disease can't often communicate how they are actually treated, it is VITAL that the caregiving agency we hire - as well as the individual caregivers they send - be the professional and caring company that their brochures always say they are. I was consistently told by my aunt's doctors and Hospice, that my aunt was doing as well as she was because she was receiving such great care!!! We take for granted the little things we do each day - getting food or drink from the fridge, using the rest room, reaching the remote, opening the door for fresh air. Having just moved here, I had no one to stop in or spend time with him. While I could provide all the clinical care with the help of home care, there were many hours left in the day where he could not be left alone. I tried three home care agencies before I found Total Care. TC was able to provide a consistent person that was more than competent to provide the care. Yulma was a great communicator and fun to be around. She was also sensitive enough to know when to back off and let my husband try something for himself and to step in while keeping my husband's dignity intact. They got along great. Yulma liked to be useful and busy so she was constantly doing things that were not asked of her but a huge help to my husband and I. Laundry, cooking, pet care, shopping. For me, it was really nice to have a helper. Our helpers were women of varying ages and it was great being doted on without feeling like I was imposing on my husband. Women are born nurturers. Between my husband, our son and two male cats, it was great just having a little more estrogen in the house During times when I was napping or we had a lull, the helpers were wonderful about working on laundry, light cleaning and even went through our sons closet and weeded out the too-small clothes (something I have been trying to get to for months). Home Helpers was flexible with scheduling since we weren't quite sure what we'd need. Also, their rates were reasonable. My recovery has been a bit slower (than I'd hope), however, right on track per my docs. We would not hesitate to call Home Helpers again!
