Although we wound up having three different helpers, each one was prompt, pleasant, helpful and in general a really nice person. In fact, I worried a bit as we'd have a new helper... and they started great and just kept getting better. Originally, we decided to bring in the helper primarily to give my husband a break. For me, it was really nice to have a helper. Our helpers were women of varying ages and it was great being doted on without feeling like I was imposing on my husband. Women are born nurturers. Between my husband, our son and two male cats, it was great just having a little more estrogen in the house During times when I was napping or we had a lull, the helpers were wonderful about working on laundry, light cleaning and even went through our sons closet and weeded out the too-small clothes (something I have been trying to get to for months). Home Helpers was flexible with scheduling since we weren't quite sure what we'd need. Also, their rates were reasonable. My recovery has been a bit slower (than I'd hope), however, right on track per my docs. We would not hesitate to call Home Helpers again!

Do not work at Kainos. I worked at Kainos and experienced lots of political BS-- favoritism, discrimination, and double standards. If you are a woman, an ILS or SLS instructor, a "protected class" minority, and if you share your managers religious beliefs, you will likely do OK at Kainos. But if you are male, do overnights, and do not share your managers religious beliefs, and are honest, you will be marginalized and oppressed. Kainos has dozens of "unwritten rules" that are NOT in the Employee Handbook-- my "mistake" was to speak the Truth and the Kainos system shi*tted me out! Do not work at Kainos. I have a 20 year full time job I cannot put on my resume thanks to Andy, who admitted to me one year later that it was a "retaliation termination"!! He should be fired for that bullsh*t. Admin staff initiate bait-and-switch meetings, so be careful if you're still working at Kainos: quit before they get petty revenge. I had NO reprimands ever, and during my last 16 years at Kainos, I had NO employee evaluations-- none! But... 20 years full time job, 4 minute termination meeting. No goodbyes to clients or co-workers. Sick. Zero accountability for admin staff. Do not work there. Id like to go through your post quickly to disprove its authenticity. During my 10 years working at Kainos I never encountered any Biases, or "corruption". I was treated with respect and equality like all other employees. I have never encountered a "protected class" at Kainos, and especially not women! They often must work harder, and closer to the clients than the men do. The religious beliefs statement probably offended me the most. My Manager and I could not have been any further from each other regarding religious attitudes, yet we worked well together, she made herself available for questions, held monthly staff meetings to air any grievances, brainstorm, and often food was provided. As for the Employee handbook, It's pretty airtight, and most times I had a question for my manager the answer would be in the handbook. These unwritten rules you commented on, I think they may fall under common sense; however considering I don't know what you are referring too, ill leave it at that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On to my personal review. Kainos could not be a better program to work for. It is an assisted living located in Redwood city. The facility has ALWAYS put the needs of the clients first. They pay higher than any other assisted living facility I looked at, and the management I interacted with were all very welcoming, rational, and patient people. The previous impersonator mentioned Andy. I didn't see Andy every day, but I did interact with him every other month or so. I could not ask for a better Executive Director. He was always clear, respectful, and calm. I doubt the truthfulness of the statement," "retaliation termination" I saw first-hand the good that Kainos provided not only to its clients but to its community through fundraising, concerts in the park, fashion shows, trips to Disneyland, the list goes on. It really is a amazing nonprofit. I loved my time at kainos, and I'm fairly certain I will never be treated with as much respect, and honesty as when I was an employee. My Father was there for only 2 hours before we had to call 911. The reason why he was there was…read morebecause of extensive leg surgery and needed rehabilitation but also has COPD...the facility was well aware of his COPD condition it was something we discussed before hand and made sure they would be able to deal with it. He ended up having a major COPD attack and we told the staff he needed a nebulizer albuterol treatment asap (we were told they had that available if needed) but apparently they didn't have it! The staff had no idea what to do so we called 911 immediately as he literally couldn't breathe. The doctor came in for a minute misdiagnosed my Father and he was not listening to me when I told him all he needs is a treatment! He then became very flustered, argumentative towards me then walked out of the room as my Father is still gasping for air! Never in my life have I encountered a doctor like that! I was just praying the paramedics would get there and what felt like an eternity was a few minutes before they arrived. It ended with him getting a albuterol treatment (like I said) and taken to the hospital by ambulance! This is a common condition and if the staff just listened to me in the first place it wouldn't have ended that way....worst experience of my life and very scary! If I can give this place -5 stars I would.

There was this one time I called last minute for a physical exam for my CNA program. The lady helped squeezed me in for an appointment right before my turn in date. My most recent visit was another physical into my LVN program and they were booked until the next month. I told them I needed the physical sooner and the guy was so helpful he told me of a cancellation and asked if I wanted it, which I did! The waits can take from 10-15 minutes which isn't too bad considering how packed and busy they are most of the time. The staff are all very nice and friendly. The nurses took their time when they saw me and never rushed my visits. They paid attention to my concerns and explained certain conditions and medications to me. The male LVN that helped drew my blood for my physical was very nice and talked me through the process so I knew what he was doing the whole time while educating me about drawing blood and LVN related stuff. Nurse practitioner Kelava was also very nice! I've seen her twice and she was super friendly and knowledgeable. On two occasions, I came in with some health issue and she diagnosed me and prescribed me meds which help me a lot. Very great team of healthcare professionals :)

After reading the reviews on Yelp I chose Nursing and Rehab at Home and glad I did. The Occupational Therapist was great as well as Laurie who was the Physical Therapist from the Santa Clara Office and the Health Aid. You really have to work with these people in setting up a weekly schedule and setting expectations. They also supplemented with people out of the San Mateo Office that were great as well. Overall it was a very good experience.
