I thought we were pulling into deliverance!! The roads are rutted and narrow dirt paths. The "pond" is a cesspool with layers of slime on top. The sites are literally on top of each other and filled with filthy dirty campers that haven't moved in decades!! Thankfully, we're self contained and didn't have to use the bathhouse!! No motorcycles allowed in the campground; at all! So if you have a toy hauler, like we do, you have to stop, open your camper up and unload your bike at the front gate blocking traffic at the gate. You then have to leave your motorcycle there and hope it's ok! The one good thing was the kiddie pool. Luckily all the kids were in the "other" pool, so we had the whole thing to ourselves. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend this place if it were the last in town. The only word to describe it is DUMP! read more

Canoe River Campground is a large campground and filled with Longterm campers, like wooden porches/deck, large Halloween decorations, flower beds, and outdoor kitchens. It is Not for short term campers. The sites are very close to each other. I felt like I could see what my neighbors were having for dinner. The bathroom near my campsite had a disgusting clog the day I arrived and it was still there 3 days later! The restroom itself was dirty. The laundry room had several machines not working and was also quite dirty. There was no information regarding the area, Boston or even Mansfield. The office staff was not helpful and almost rude. The only thing this campground has going for itself is location in proximity to 495 ... restrooms especially on holiday weekends are filthy and trash over filling the dumpsters, not many activities for children, employees in the camp store cannot handle the volume of campers which makes them cranky, some of the employees on golf carts are absolutely rude, seasonal campers by the lite up path apparently own the path and no others are able to access it as they yell when you walk down it other than that had no issue with other seasonal campers and some make their site so nice I enjoy walking around looking at them! If your looking for a campground that has amenities this is not it but if you want convenience this would be the go to! read more

Had so much fun staying here! Reading some of the reviews I was worried but honestly it was great. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained especially for a camp ground with lots of kids running around. The pools were a life saver especially with the heatwave. The tent site we had had electricity which was awesome. The showers run hot water but you have to pay. It's cheap though. 25 cents for 6 Mins. There were outlets in the bathrooms too. The general store has a little bit of everything at reasonable prices. And the staff was wicked friendly. They even have events for the kids like a petting zoo and bingo. 10/10 would recommend. Unfortunately, it was over Memorial Day weekend. The campground was a "SEA" of people, cars, trucks, RVs. The campground had to of been "over the limit" if there was such a thing. We booked a spot in January 2023 And they gave our spot away and left was with a spot that had trees. I called the office and it took a week before anyone called me back. I wouldnt recommend this campground. It was dirty. The bathrooms were dirty, trash cans over flowing. I have plenty of photos. read more

Nice mom & pop campground in Manfield on Canoe River. Decent rates for tent camping. Sote was easy to find, good map. Staff was friendly and welcoming. You're issued a gate key to get in & out of the park. There's a camp store, with ice cream & a snack bar on the weekend. You can also buy wood there. There's a pool, clean & well taken care of. You can rent paddle boats on go out & play on the river. Nice bathhouse, clean & well taken care of. Campsite includes a firepit and picnic table. Sites are small, not a lot of privacy between sites. Barking dogs are asked to leave & it's enforced. Quiet Hours are strictly enforced & nice & quiet after 10pm. Had such a fun time, worth the $44 per night. Will be back & bringing friends read more

Yeah, agree with the negative posts. Sites are on top of each other and the place is a mess. Cars are parked all over as well which makes it difficult towing in or out. No one observes quite hours - loud partying until the wee hours of the morning. It doesn't look like there is any order, monitoring, upkeep or maintenance by the staff. Cigarette smoke, trash, sewer smell everywhere in the campground. The. Pond looks like a toxic waste dump. The seasonals are falling apart and mess. Came in after Labor Day and stayed until official closing day (Oct. 15th). Place was pretty quiet minus the one "Halloween" weekend which is to be expected. Place got packed, looks like the kids had a ton of fun and everyone (at least in my area) called it a night prior to 11PM. Not bad at all! There was this old codger in a red s-10 pickup that freaked out on me screamed out his window as he passed me "5MPH!!!!!!" We both had our windows down and he easily could have been nice as we drove passed but he waited until we were 2 car lengths away before leaning out and screaming. It was my second day there and I was going 7MPH via my brand new car's speedometer. I doubt he can tell the difference and I was near no one. Kind of turned me off. He was a longterm person. A few of the longterm people let their trailers and areas go to hell. Made a couple little areas feel like a trailer park instead of a campground. Lots of nice rigs, but a couple real POS's. I didn't use any of the facilities so I can not comment on those. All-in-all I had no major issues. Would stay again if I needed something in the area. Pricey, but all the places up here are expensive. MIddle of the road review, nothing to write home about but I didn't really have the issues other reviewers expressed. One more thing, don't spend the money on the wifi. I'm not sure about the whole park but where I was towards the woods near the bath house, the service was total crap. My hotspot got throttled to 3G due to going over my data and that was blazing fast in comparison to their service. If they're going to charge for wifi in 2017 it better be WAY better than 3G cellular. Theirs was total sh1t. EDIT: I forgot to add that they gave me a map of all the sites that were open for the duration of my stay and let me go around the park and pick out which site I liked best. The campground was well maintained and the staff were courteous. However, the sites are small and very close together. It was my own misunderstanding, but visitors should note that the natural bodies of water on the grounds are swampy and there is no swimming allowed. They are also very small, so other than the paddleboats available to rent, if you were thinking that you could canoe on Canoe River, you are mistaken. Try nearby Norton Reservoir if you bring kayaks/canoes. Overall, the campground met our needs, we all slept well, and had a great time, but it was more a tent city than an experience in nature. read more

The wood I purchased was sooo wet that it wouldn't burn. The site was way out of level. The sewer inlet is much higher then the site, so very difficult to empty tanks. Very close to seasonal sites that look like ghettos. Canoe river is less expensive, but it's a dump. read more

I'm not a seasonal and I don't go several times a year but I like to visit at least once during the summer. The thing I like most about Canoe River is that my kids are never bored. They provide great entertainment and activities all weekend like karaoke and dance parties as well as a fire engine ride around the campground (which the kids love). They have two nice pools, one of which is a large kid's wading pool. My kids love the boating, riding their bikes around the campground, and playing on the playground. Another thing is that it is so nice to see kids fishing with their parents off the bridge and having those bonding moments without being attached to their phones. I've never had any issue with the site sizes or the cleanliness of the sites. Any time I have been in the bathrooms they have had sufficient supplies and were clean. I've seen lots of people on Yelp complaining about the loud people at night as well as kids running wild. In my opinion this is not the campground's fault. This is the fault of the parents and guardians of said children. I, for one, teach my kids about respecting the neighbors and being careful around the cars and not disrespecting the adults. I don't blame the campground for unruly children or loud, obnoxious, drunk campers. And I wouldn't have any problem reporting someone who was disturbing the peace or breaking the quiet hour rules. The only suggestion I do have for the campground would be to reinforce supervision in the pool area. The gates are safety gates but the kids figure those out pretty quick and I have seen kids in the pools without adults. Having said that, again I would blame bad parenting on children going into the pool unsupervised. Parents should know where their kids are, even in a campground. read more

We stayed there a weekend, Day two the boys wanted to go home. we Tent camped and we got squished In Between two camp sites And that was after we had to change because the first site was on a hill with no flat area for tents. I have mixed feelings. I stayed for three nights while on business in the area. I stayed in a tent on a pond. I loved the trees and sound of bullfrogs and sometimes could hear fish leaping. There are beautiful trees and the cabins look great. That's the good part. Like other posters, I noticed that there are many very rundown RVs, trailers and even busses occupying sites. They give the place a very rundown and even scary vibe. Some sites had trash on them that was there for at least the 2 days I was there. It looked like a former occupant had just dumped their bags of trash there instead of taking the task to the dumpster. The tent site was also fairly small but I didn't feel cramped only because no one was on either side of me. Had there been other tents on these sites I think I would have felt a bit crowded. But the trees were nice and just the right distance apart for my hammock. The bathroom was pretty awful. It needs a good to top bottom cleaning. There is dirt on the walls, in the shower stalls and floors. People dump their trash out on the counter and just leave it. Right now there is someone's food containers sitting on the sink counter. There was trash and hair balls on the floor my first night. And the showers only have cold water! I didn't know how to get hot water and it looks like there is some sort of coin box on the outside of the showers but it's not clear how much to pay, whether you put in a token, quarter or what. I was given no warning about this when I checked in and had to take cold showers each day which I wasn't happy about. I read some other posts and see that people were paying for hot water. This is not right. The price I paid for a tent site, $39/night, was far too high to not have wifi or hot water. The night I arrived there was a loud boisterous crowd in the tent a few sites down. The group apparently included visitors and they were playing their music at a loud volume. One of the girls got into a fight with someone and I heard a lot of loud profanity and screaming that went on for sometime. The guests left around 9 pm and the site was quiet by 930. I noticed a large group of rowdy teens hanging out by the office when I drove in late last night. Tonight I got to my tent a bit late, around 11 pm as I had to work late. The card they give you to enter the gate didn't work but they display their phone number and say you can call 24 hours. I called and someone answered right away and let me in. There was a large group of teens there again. I went to my tent without ncident. About an hour later, I heard cracking branches close to my tent. It sounded like someone was walking very close to my tent. There was also a car just across the little creek from my tent and people were settling in so I thought that the sound had just carried over. But the cracking sounds really sounded that they were behind my tent, not from across the way. I decided to go out and use the restroom. As I turned out of the tent area onto the road that leads to the bathhouse, I passed a rundown bus which seems to be a permanent fixture. There were about three men there from what I could see, just hanging out by the road in the dark. I walked past and they decided to try to make conversation.I don't know them and just wanted to use the restroom undisturbed. One asked how things were going and I said "fine" and kept walking. They asked if I was OK, not sure why but I didn't want to talk with them. I then had to get back to my tent but the only way was to pass them again. This time I kept my light off and walked on the road in the dark hoping to be able to pass undetected but there is nearly a full moon right now so there is still some light. As I approached the bus I kept as far from it as possible but I noticed two of the men quickly returning to the bus from the direction of the road to my tent. I don't know what they were doing but it seemed odd. They saw me anyway and started asking if I wanted a beer, when I ignored them I heard hello, hey, hey.... There was absolutely no reason for these creepy men to speak to me at all. I wasn't bothering them, I just wanted to be able to sleep in my tent on my site in peace and feel safe. After that, I did not feel safe.I didn't want to find out what would happen next so I got in my car and left my beautiful new tent there. I called the office on the way out and the person was very nice and offered to give me a different site but I said it was too late and I can't pull up my tent in the dark and set it up somewhere else right now. They offered to have someone come to my site to check it but at that point I didn't feel safe or relaxed. I am now in a $200 hotel. I wish this campsite would prohibit the gangs of roving teens, clean the trash from the sites and pressure wash and scour the bathroom, and most of all prevent these scary locals from bothering other guests. I also wish I could have had a hot shower and wifi. It should have been included in the price. read more

Very unpleasant campground - sites are packed very, very tight so everyone is right on top of each other. Lots of really sketchy people. Adults chain smoking at the pool. The sites are also not flat and covered with rocks and divots, and aren't level. If you're tent camping, I hope you have a really good air mattress. Loud and zero privacy - due to the proximity to Xfinity Center you'll get concertgoers coming back to the camp at all hours. The bathrooms weren't as vile as some previous reviews note, but I certainly wouldn't call them "good" or "clean." We didn't use the shower so cannot speak to their cleanliness. Did not appreciate an older grown man deciding to be completely nude in the bathroom hallway outside his shower...good thing I didn't send my young kids in there alone. Visited with someone who camps regularly and they stated it was the worse place they've camped at. I would not visit here again. read more

My family and I went on a trip to Maine from Pennsylvania and stopped overnight on the way back at Canoe River Campground. They had plenty of sites available when I called and the lady who answered the phone was very nice. Unfortunately, when we paid our 57 dollars 98(site is $47 for full hookup then another 10 dollars for an additional adult as only 2 adults and their 3 children can be on one site, we had 3 adults and 2 kids) and went back to the site we experienced another side of the campground. The pool area is very nice looking with the exception of the bathrooms, the bathrooms there are small and moldy. The site was a good size but sadly the bathrooms were a health hazard. You walk into the bathrooms and the showers are covered in black mold and you need to pay to use them. There are no hooks inside the shower stalls so you need to hang your clothing and towel outside of the stall and put your toiletries on the floor, then if you are unfortunate enough to run out of water, you need to open the door while naked to add more change to the shower. Needless to say, we didn't shower. Although this campground has great potential as the grounds are beautiful, they are not fully utilizing the space correctly. Some of the seasonal sites look like a 1 star trailer park. I do not recommend this place. read more

The people who live there year around leave their old fridges, furniture, and trash in their small yard space. The campsites are overcrowded. The campground has huge potential to be a beautiful place. Needs to be maintained with cutting down some of the trees, cleaning the brush and facilities. The bathrooms are quite disgusting. When I made reservations for three campers, all 35' with slide outs, I was guaranteed the sites would accommodate. Heck, no! Narrow and just impossible even for an experienced tower to get the campers in the site. You have to wedge your camper in between large pines and oaks. If not positioned right, you can't use your slide outs. Never mind using the fire pit or your picnic table because once you're in you have to figure out where to park your truck. There were great sites elsewhere where we could have pulled through and no trees. However, they were booked. Just wished mgt. would have said our campers would not fit. Just be careful cause their website says any size. We were in SD 3,4,5. The beautiful pond/lake they post does not look like that at all. It's slowly becoming a swamp. But we did enjoy watching the geese and ducks. The young kids fishing looked like they were having a good time catching sunfish. Did not use the pool nor did we buy food so I cannot comment. Peaked into the bathrooms and they were disgusting. The campground was at just about full capacity and I was amazed how quiet it became at night. Did not have any issues with loud night revelers. I did see town police cruise through a few times. Perhaps checking the area. I might stay there again, but not in those sites. read more

Horrible experience dealing with staff in terms of getting a tour of the campground. My friend was a guest of the campground and as a result of him helping me see what the campground had to offer they deactivated his gate card which is a reason why I will never ever go there and if anybody ever asks me anything about the place I will tell them that I had a horrible experience there. Not the best place I have stayed at for sure. The site we were assigned was too small. When we called to reserve we asked if we could easily put a trailer of our size on the site and the response was "Oh yes".....Wong answer!!! Trailers were right on top of each other. We could only open our awning halfway due to a big tree but could not move the trailer without hitting the utility unit. The fire place was against some bushes on the edge of the pond not exactly safe for fire. The pond did have lots of wildlife we were able to put our kayaks in but that is about the extent of excitement. Lots of sites that look like they are abandoned just eye sore honestly. Could be a nice place if they unforced some clean up on sites. read more

We have camped here a few times in the past couple of years . This has always been our favorite campground until this time around . The bathrooms should be condemned by the board of health . The mold in the shower stalls as well as the toilet stalls is a health concern . The roads are pitted and have deep puddles when it rains . There is trash on the roads that is not picked up . The site next to us was empty all week and no one came to clean it . On the other side there was a seasonal camper with a large dog that was tied to a tree do go to the bathroom which was never picked up and the smell was awful in the heat and humidity. The owners should take more pride in this campground and treat it as a community not just a money maker . There are run down campers with trees growing out of them and some of the seasonal sites have more crap then an episode of " hoarders " . read more

WOW! At least they have standards, albeit low. I've never stayed at a campground where the majority of the seasonal sites make Sanford and Son look luxurious. There is no standard for upkeep. I'm glad the fridge was working fine. However I did bring my noise complaint to the office staff and was told that they would try to get them from shining their light into the bedroom window. However they never remedied the fact that the renters encroached on the cabin site and there was approx 6 inches from the buffet table and the back wall of the cabin and several tents that appeared. I also had one of the renters tie his canopy to a tree on the side of the cabin , further hindering my 9 yr old daughter and myself from enjoying any outside activity due to the number of occupants on the sites around the cabin. We loved the cabin, but would have liked to enjoy it with just a tad bit more privacy. read more

This is our favorite family camp ground! I have been going the since my kids were little, and my son still goes with me along with my nephew. A couple of my friends are going to come with us and rent a cabin for the weekend to check it out. They have fun family events for the kids and adults, the give rides on an old fire truck. They have 2 pools, one of them is for the real small kids. They also have a playground, basketball court, horse shoe pits, paddle boats and canoes. I can't say enough about this place it is a great place for family camping. read more

The staff was very nice. The pool area was clean and they had good entertainment. As for the sites and the "Lake front" not so much. We had "Lake Front" which was more like mud puddle front. (T2 - T4). The main lake if you want to call it that you cannot swim in. I would not even have my dog put her paw in! You can only swim in the front two pools and it was Packed because that is the only place to swim. The pictures on there website are WRONG. The lake/pond is disgusting! I would not even think of paddleboating or boating period cause I might catch something. Even the boats were black just sitting there. All the sites were on top of one another. I have been going to Canoe River for years and I really do like it! The staff is always very nice and helpful! I have already spent two weekend at the camp ground this year and I have notices a few things! First it seems to be a large group of people who either live at Canoe River or are staying for a long period of time including a large group of teenagers. I feel they have all become very territorial and have taken over the camp ground and pool area! The snack bar food is not good and service is slow. My biggest complaint is the bathrooms and the showers. GROSS!! They have been in a big decline over the years and are not cleaned and maintained enough. Many times my last trip the stalls had no toilet paper urine and feces on the men's room floor twice not in the stall! I will continue to visit Canoe River but I hope they make improvements! read more

This is a great place to take your family for a fun stress free camping experience. I have camped here several times in the past and always enjoyed myself. My friend and I camped here alone last summer with our children, and as 2 women with small children, we felt completely safe. The staff is very attentive and truly care about the campground being successful. Previously I always camped at state parks and this is much better. The amenities and activities are a huge plus. We are renting the cabin this coming weekend and I will definitely yelp again after! read more

Spent two nights at this campground. Bought a bundle of firewood from the front desk. But it in my trunk to get it back to the campsite. Only to find out the day the wood was infested in termites. I will NEVER take my family back to this campground ever again! I have been to many different campgrounds but I have never experienced the lack of care to a property like this place. I arrived to my campsite with it covered in someone else's trash, including a used condom! It was absolutely filthy! Our friends with the site next to us had the same issue with trash everywhere. We decided to take our children to the playground which again was covered in more trash! To my shock, there were so many young children there with absolutely no parental supervision. It was so bad that my friend and I actually had to help a 7 year old girl find her campsite while her parents just sat there. The next day we took our children to the pool but not before walking through a cloud of cigarette smoke before opening the pool gate. Once again, there is supposed to be parental supervision in the pool area and most children, young children, we're unattended while their parents sat at tables outside the pool drinking and smoking. I didn't see a single employee walking around or anywhere at the campground except for in the office. The owner really needs to pay attention to his business and make this a sanitary place for families to enjoy. The pond is absolutely covered in trash as well! My family and friends were going to come visit but we ended up leaving early. It's disappointing how disgusting and dirty this place is and to end the summer this way was very unfortunate. I guess I now know why other campgrounds were unavailable labor day weekend and this one had availability. Hope this review helps others save their time and money and they go somewhere else! Wish this could be a zero! Doesn't even do serve a 1! So we stayed here last night and what a mistake! Sadly, I wish I read these reviews yesterday as I agree 100% with all of the negative post! Did not want to say it but it cost $37 for a night to camp here with a tent and an additional $10 for wood! Almost $50 for a night of living on top of trash! Cars parked on our site and we had to ask our drunk parting neighbors to move! College kids drinking until God knows what time they woke us up at 6am , dogs barking and sounded like they were fighting all night and morning! Then we found spaghetti sauce, beer cans, bottles and ripped up trash everywhere! It's laughable how terrible this was, I honestly do not know why anyone would want to come here. Then on top of it there was possums clearly living in the woods living off of the garbage that was thrown everywhere! Seriously so dirty , please never go here! read more

Great campground but yeah the new food choices they have is terrible. Been coming for years and still do but this year they changed the food to a different vendor and lemme tell you all the years I've been coming here the food has been BOMB! So good not so much anymore. Have ordered a burger that was about 9-10$ I believe and it hardly had any flavor was over cooked then have had a tuna melt sandwich which was just regular can tuna fish nothing special had the fries they were undercooked and dripping in oil and chicken tenders which were just meh... the prices went up significantly as well . I'm not the only one very dissatisfied with the new food option changes at the once very good snack bar. They also got rid of the fabulous staff that used to run the snack bar which is very disappointing :( as for the campground and other services here it's very nice it's just the food that needs to go back to the old ways it has been for years! read more
