All of the Captains, Mates, and Crew were very knowledgeable and always acted in a professional manor. Some of the boats are in better conditions then the others, but all of the boats are very sea worthy and any serious fisherman can tell that these boats are rigged for one thing only and that is fishing. I have fish on many boats that were a lot bigger and nicer, but the knowledge on those bigger and nicer boats does not compare to the knowledge that is within the Mass Bay guides fleet. Fishing is fishing and you are not guaranteed that you with catch fish every time you go out, that is just the way it is, that is why they call it fishing not catching. As for fishing with only 2 lines for 6 people that is the style that is very productive for tuna fishing with in the New England area. You could fish with 10 lines and it would not increase your odds. In fact if you were lucky enough to hook up with a large tuna while you had 4 or 6 lines in the water it would decrease your odds for being able to land the fish. If you are looking for a great day of fishing I highly recommend Mass Bay Guides. Any serious fisherman would recognize that these guys are the real deal.

They will get you on fish, and if you hook-up, they are experts at helping you fight and successfully land it. Brian got us hooked and helped us land 600lb Bluefin "monsta!" It was a trip maker and life-time memory. Five plus stars!!! (As an aside, I don't know where these negative reviews are coming from...these guys are among the best in the business. We'll be coming back for sure.)

My father was boating alone on the North river last week, not in a rental boat but his own. He had…read moreanchored up and was fishing. It started raining, so he decided to leave, but could not get his motor started. He ended up pulling anchor and letting the current take him up the river trying to spot somebody to help him. He tried blowing his air horn a few times, but nobody heard or responded and it finally ran out of air. He drifted for quite a while, more than an hour, in heavy rain. When he finally drifted past Mary's he dropped the anchor and began waving his rain coat in the air to get somebody' attention. Somebody from Mary's took a skiff out to him and towed him all the way back to the boat launch on the South river. I am beyond grateful for the way they took care of him. He is in his 70's now, a former Navy guy, and somebody that always knew how to handle himself on the water. When they brought him back, he was cold and tired. I am so glad that the nice people there helped him out. He could have ended up with hypothermia very easily that day. On a side note, my dad and I used to rent boats from Mary's way back in the early 80's...they have been there a very long time and their rates are very reasonable. What impresses me most is how they treat people. They helped my dad out a lot. So much, that I decided I just had to write this review. Whoever it was that helped my Dad, Thank You!

Loved the new sail awning they put up a this summer. Made lunch much more enjoyable on a hot sunny day! Toddlers had a blast watching the boats coming in and out and the local teens jumping off of the bridge and it didn't matter when they spilled all over the floor. Bar is hidden to the left of the food station but keep looking til you find it. Bloody Mary was great and all other drinks were good too.

Captain Jay really bailed me out of a jam after the boat for my friend's batchelor party cancelled…read more Communication was easy and straight forward, with no hassle or games. I don't think I can say enough great things about the trip, but I'll give some of the highlights. The parking was free, the timing loose (we left an hour early, came back 2 hours late) and the atmosphere was fun. Captain Jay and Nick couldn't have been more accomidating, especially when the fish stopped biting around noon, I think that if someone thought it would have helped Jay would have grabbed a hook and jumped in himself just to liven things up. Despite the slow end we brought home a variety of tasty fish which were cleaned at the docks for no extra charge. My only reccomendation to any trip planner would be to bring some sort of small folding chair- While there was ample places to sit nothing was a "chair" per se and there were absolutely no cupholders in the back. While this proved to be of no significant problem, if you have a party smaller than 4 you're going to have noplace to sit your beer while you are reeling. DL/TL For those of you who hate reading. A+ on the trip, the crew, and the fish, failure on the lack of cup holders.
