The automated answering service often directs me to call 911 instead of allowing me to speak to someone, which can be extremely inconvenient. The QR code and computer check-in system also make the process feel impersonal and a bit like patients are just numbers moving through the system. I really miss the days when you could call the office and speak with a real person or check in with someone at the front desk. It made the experience feel much more welcoming. That being said, the staff, nurses, and doctors are excellent--kind, caring, and very professional. They are the main reason I continue coming back to this office. If the communication and check-in process were improved to feel more personal, the overall experience would be much better.

I ended up switching to his office, because my previous primary care provider refused to even consider giving me a prescription to address anxiety issues, even though I had a recommendation from another healthcare provider. Dr. Rodriguez listened attentively and addressed all of my concerns. He really takes his time with each patient. Dr. Rodriguez is now part of the MdVIP program, so we switched to PA Heather and PA Jerry. Heather has been great. She is really good at presenting all of the options available for treatments and even puts stickers on my lab results. Overall, I recommend this office to my friends all the time.

He's had horrible staff during times and good in fact awesome at others. I don't know if the medical care system has changed. I don't know. But months out from appointments means one of two things or both. Either you have too many patients or not enough staff. No matter. And this is kind of common here in San Antonio I've found. Tried to find a doctor taking new patients. 5 months out. THAT is not health care. I can't 'plan' every event with my health 5 months in advance. People get sick and need to see a doctor fairly soon. 'Go to the ER' is the answer. Then the ER gets clogged up to people that really need it. So I just become part of the problem. But for me, for as long as I've been a patient, I don't' care how many patients you have...it's about loyalty and trust me, I've stuck through some bad times there as he's gone through some horrible staff. And I see it. I didn't say anything but I saw the damage being done. I just can't do it. I don't feel like I can accept that for MYSELF. Love the man. He saved my life long ago. She strongly advised me to seek out a primary care doctor to increase my chances of survival. Since I am not from this area, I searched in network doctors from my insurance and would up with him. This doctor's standard of care was substandard to be modest. Without divulging too much PHI, I was trying to get help from him to deal with the emotional and psychological issues associated with cancer. I asked for a referral to a psychiatrist (couldn't do that). My mental health had gotten so bad. I asked him to send depression medicine to the pharmacist and he denied the refill because I didn't come back to his office. Instead of anyone from that office calling to ask what problems I was experiencing and seeing how I could be better helped by the doctor, I didn't get a call from them at all and they want. This doctor is all about the insurance grab and should have his license revoked. Seriously.

EDIT 29 Nov 2016: Apparently, this is no longer Satmed Medical Clinic. It is Ascend Family and Wellness Care. Our records were switched to the new place, and we never knew until I called there. Thankfully, the staff was great, very informative and patient. Also, Dr Melissa Kempf no longer works here. I will update more if we stay with the clinic.
