Soups were hot and recommended. Frites were freshly cooked and hot, and real potatoes. Burger a bit well done for my taste but juicy and good. A little hard to maintain the burger structural integrity due to height and ingredients. So messy. Cheesecake had real maple flavor but eventually I found it a bit too much. We'd tried a couple times to get a reservation here and failed to do so around the holidays, but a bad ice storm moved in and and a lot of people apparently canceled their trips which is sad for them, but lucky for us because we had a fantastic meal in their stead! Our server was friendly and efficient, and never rushed us. The ambiance we very classic Keg-room/steak house style inside the larger Pilar and Post complex. Our family ordered the gnocchi, the strip loin, and the tenderloin and every dish was spot on and cooked to perfect. The tenderloin was especially stand out with the stilton crust, and impeccable tenderness. We made a reservation at the restaurant for our anniversary after a relaxing spa day, and it was just what we needed. The serene atmosphere perfectly complemented our day. We ordered the "Slow-roasted Prime Rib" and "BBQ Flat Iron", and both dishes were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. You can ask for sour cream, horseradish, green onions, and cheese on the side, which adds a nice touch. This weekend we decided to visit the beautiful quaint town of NIAGARA ON THE LAKE (NoTL). We stayed at the gorgeous hotel, Queen's Landing, which is one of several sister hotels in this town. The Cannery is a beautiful restaurant at the Pillar and Post hotel. The ambiance is of a chic barnyard and they boast fine country dining. The restaurant is actually quite huge, and we didn't have trouble getting a table! We started with appetizers - I had my eye on the crab cakes and the bruschetta having perused the menu several times prior to coming there. I was not disappointed! The crab cakes were delicious. I enjoyed the bruschetta but fair warning - it's much sweeter than anticipated and could even pass for a delicious dessert! I am more of a savory person, but the combination of fruits and honey glaze was a little too sweet for me. Nonetheless the flavors were lovely Choosing our drinks was another matter - the cocktail and wine menu is extensive! I love spicy everything so of course I chose a Bloody Mary type drink they called THE Caesar. I was not disappointed! It was like a appetizer on its own The old fashioned was good too, although no the best we've had. I think it could have been stirred a little bit more to get the sweet syrup at the bottom more evenly mixed. Later on we got a glass of wine to go with our meat heavy entree and that was quite delicious and paired well! Their menu also makes suggestions for wine pairing for every dish, which is quite helpful The slow roasted prime rib was better than I imagined. I am usually disappointed by prime ribs at other restaurants because it is often too chewy and poorly seasoned. This was the exact opposite! I got mine medium rare. I don't know how they get this thing so juicy and evenly salted because it just melts in your mouth!! And unlike my previous experiences, I did not have to break the knife when I cut the meat. It also came with a side of baked potatoes with all the fixings you could want, as well as this Yorkshire pudding which is in fact not a pudding but more like a soft crunchy bread!!! I had no idea. Overall a MASSIVE hit for me! Meanwhile my boyfriend also hit the jackpot with the short rib, which fell right off the bone and straight into our belly's!!! Good lord this was also perfectly seasoned and just so flavorful. I am still dreaming about both these dishes. Miraculously we finished every bite of our appetizers and entrees and somehow still had room to share a brookie aka brownie and cookie. Very moist with some brownie crisps on top - perfect ending to a wondering dinner I highly recommend the Cannery and its amazing array of cuisine. Our last visit was this past weekend and they continue to delight with some tried and true specialties...as a starter, my husband selected the shrimp cocktail (6 xl shrimp served with cocktail sauce and lemon) and I opted for the Caesar salad - delicious and large enough to share. We also ordered the bread service - baguette, sourdough, and a tomato basil bread served with butter, olive oil, and pink sea salt. We both chose the prime rib entree - their specialty since 1970! The beef was generous and cooked to perfection. A lovely pan jus complimented the beef and the dish was served with a baked potato and fresh vegetables (asparagus, carrots, beans). Our service was excellent - our server shared that she had worked there for over 26 years and that many of her colleagues had been there even longer - says a lot about the work environment! We came to dine at the Cannery from our 'Fire & Ice' package with the associating Pillar & Post Inn. We had a 3-course meal with set options. The salad appetizer was fresh & decent. As for the mains, I highly suggest going for the beef short rib, it was very flavourful & saucy. I initially ordered the Salmon main dish, but it came out in a bed of soupy (not fluffy) quinoa and the salmon skin was on and it was so limp, fishy, and slimy. I would've expected a finer dining spot like this to cook the salmon well and crisp up the skin! The waiter was very understanding though and very kindly swapped out my main dish. The food was delicious, great sized portions. Service was amazing, great friendly staff, the waitresses we dealt with were friendly and constantly checked on us to see if we needed anything! The ambiance was asceticly pleasing if you are into old places restored, the brick and wood mixed with some of the old cannery equipment used as prop displays. The chef found out we were expecting a baby, so the kitchen staff gave my wife extra portions with her dessert! Mama and baby were both thankful! When we went inside to dine, there were two weddings hidden at the back of the restaurant. We were excited to try Cannery but overall it's just such a bland experience. The service was perfunctory. The food was bland with the exception of the crab cakes, which were quite good. The prime rib, something a lot of reviewers have praised, was way too well done to be called even medium and was lukewarm. Considering it took about 35 minutes for it to arrive after the appetizers I can only assume it was sitting out for a while. The short ribs were your standard run-of-the mill braised meat and there wasn't more than 4 ounces on the plate. We skipped dessert. Just disappointing. read more

In the afternoon of the day of our visit, we ordered the artichoke dip, as a to-go snack. We asked for a gluten-free pita with it, and advised of our gluten allergy. On pickup, the dip was delicious but after one bite of the bread, we realized it was not gluten-free. We were surprised the staff would be careless about an allergy, but decided to keep our dinner reservations and give the restaurant another chance. At dinner, the server taking care of us was Alison. I ordered a glass of wine to start. I wasn't offered a taste of it first - the glass arrived filled, no bottle in sight. After taking a sip, I realized it was very watered down. After that initial sip, I didn't touch the wine, but for the next hour and a half, Alison didn't notice, let alone ask if there was an issue with it. For herself, my mom asked about a freshly squeezed juice to start. After two reminders about her question, she was informed there are no freshly squeezed juice options on offer. My mom's dinner choice was the braised short rib. The short rib was very good, but it came with a grand total of 3 pieces of asparagus and a 'baked' potato which had been pre-cooked and reheated, arriving lukewarm on the outside and cold on the inside. My dinner choice was the risotto, which was not risotto but half-boiled soggy rice with canned, sour vegetables. I took 3 laborious bites before I gave up. Curiously, Alison didn't notice that my plate (like my wine glass) remained untouched, either throughout the evening, or when we were settling the bill. We skipped dessert. Theres a deal if you stay at one of the hotels where you get an appetizer,entree and dessert for 65$. There was so much food for that price and it was worth way more than that honestly. I had the stuffed chicken which was so juicy and flavorful. My dad had the short rib which was so tender and melt in your mouth. The steaks were huge and cooked perfectly as well. And let me tell you about the most amazing desserts they offer. All 4 of us tried a different one and no one left a drop on their plate. The apple cheesecake was deconstructed and the banana bites were so good with sides of caramel and chocolate dipping sauces. Our waitress Elissa was very efficient and friendly. This was by far one of the best steak dinners I've ever eaten. My husbands filet was overcooked to medium well when he ordered medium rare :/ It was our anniversary so he didn't want me to eat alone so he said nothing. The Cannery is easily among the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. The meat was cooked to perfection, portion sizes were just right (sorry Americans this isn't an all you can eat buffet) and the staff were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable of the products they were selling. The atmosphere was a tastefully renovated rustic traditional hotel with vineyard art works all throughout the dining area. The rooms were dimly lit and romantic but not so much that our 7 year old couldn't enjoy drawing with the provided crayons. Really genuine service from Krista here for our wedding tasting. We had their Sunday brunch buffet and they placed us infront of the warm electric fire place which added to the special occasion. We had 6 wines to taste and they were each explained thoroughly to us before and after the next one. Great wine list, featuring mostly local VQAs. The food was plentiful, starting with the breakfast omlette bar, cereals, pastries and bread selection and moving to the antipasto, salads and cheese selections and finally the entrees. We had cauliflower baked with cheese, baked salmon, spinach cream fish, blackened striploin with lime butter ( a bit dry), jerk chicken(a bit bland) and s tomato sauce baked pasta. As a sister site of the hotel myself and my husband were staying at we had looked at the alternative restaurant at our hotel, Queens Landing, but ultimately chose this restaurant because it seemed more romantic. The stage was set for romance with crisp white table cloths, cloth napkins, candle light and fine wines. We shared an appetizer and I enjoyed a salmon entree. The pesto potatoes the salmon was served with was a beautiful match to the honey in the salmon dish and the recommended Riesling. We also indulged in a brownie cheesecake for dessert and it was just the right amount of sweetness. The brownie portion was a bit too chewy for me but my husband enjoyed it. It is a bit pricey but we were happy that we could just add it onto our hotel bill and pay it all together in one lump sum. read more
