They were referred to us by our vet at VCA Kaneohe to treat our dog's degenerative disease that impacted her spinal cord, affecting her back legs and ability to walk. She had been going for laser therapy treatment at VCA for pain which was initially working, then her vet recommended Dr. Gregg Levine and KAI Animal Institute as an integrative and complementary mode of treatment for pain management of her spinal cord disease. We're so glad her vet recommended KAI Animal Institute. In our first communication with Dr. Levine, he went over our dog's history over the phone, and went over various modes of treatment he could offer to relieve our dog's pain. We then setup a treatment session at his healing studio for him to assess our dog's health and recommend the most appropriate course of treatment. Stepping into KAI Animal Institute's studio, we were greeted with a calming and healing oasis that was thoughtfully designed for animals where Dr. Levine used various treatments like low level light laser therapy, rehab therapy, targeted pulse electromagnetic field therapy, and acupuncture for our dog's pain. In addition, his wife, Julie, an animal behaviorist, performed harmonic therapy for our dog during the treatment which used sound healing powers to further help calm and treat our dog in addition to the acupuncture, etc. Soothing music was played in the background during the treatment session which helped even my husband and I to relax. During and after each session, we could see a change in our dog's behavior and demeanor. She would smile and be so happy, excited to go to KAI Animal Institute's healing oasis and see Dr. Levine and Julie because she knew they would help her feel better. She was able to stand for brief periods with assistance and continually kept trying to use her back legs on her own. As it was only 7.15am they could by the time I arrived at 8.15am. They charge $270 for an emergency appointment, $370 if it is before 8am so my driving time worked to my advantage. The staff took my cat into a room without me, don't know why, and it made me uncomfortable as I wanted to be there for him. The vet came out to tell me his bladder was plugged and needed emptying. I was given 2 options, one in house where they keep him for 3 days at the surgery $5K, the other for them to sedate and unblock the urethra/bladder and he is taken home$1k. I chose the latter as we can look after him at home and give him meds etc. The staff were great, from the gals at the front desk to the vet and vet techs. Very friendly and informative and even forgave me bringing my poor puss in a Trader Joes zip up grocery bag! (I couldn't find where hubby had stored his crate and it was an emergency so I grabbed the first thing I could find in the garage....it was the way I brought him home as a kitten too after I found him dying on the Maui Costco lot!). Emergency vet treatment is always a big hit in the pocket and Central is definitely up there, but we have no vet clinic on the west side now so there is no alternative :(

Although it's an hour and 20 minutes (one way) away from where I live, I actually did it again in January for a follow up appointment and will be going again in March. I initially went to a vet here in Kona to deal with a growth on my cat's mouth which proved to be cancerous. The vet removed as much as they could safely but some of it couldn't be removed. A biopsy was sent to an oncologist who suggested chemo and radiation immediately as I was told the cancer would come back with a vengeance. I wouldn't consider either of those treatments for myself so I wasn't about to put my cat through it either. I requested alternative treatments and was told they didn't have any so I asked for a holistic vet recommendation which led to Dr. Woodley and the Kapaau clinic. Dr. Woodley put my cat on some herbs in hopes that it would stop the growth of her tumor. Not only did it STOP the growth, but it SHRANK it. Had I gone with the initial recommendation, my cat would probably not be alive today as her life prognosis on the previously mentioned treatments was only a few months and she would have been miserable throughout the treatment. Today, she runs around like a kitten (she's 15 years old) and you would never know this cat had a serious bout with cancer. I have to give her the herbs daily, however, that's hardly a price to pay when I consider the alternative. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Woodley if you are looking for a natural way to care for your pet.

Because I was going to manage a LOT of moving parts to get this guy back to Oregon! Both Angie and J were so available and kind and took a lot of phone calls while I wrassled with how to get timid Lou home (in cabin, in baggage); in the end Angie brought Lou to OGG curbside when I flew over from O'ahu and nabbed him, navigated security (GREAT KINDNESS from TSA people) and hopped back to HNL to catch my mainland flight! Can't say enough about these kind people. Lou is a wonderful cat, he's doing great, five weeks along since he's had food, love and care -- he's a normal weight, glossy fur, happy as a clam and having his true kittenhood, now that he's safe and warm!!
