I thought the service was wonderful!! It was a little strange going into somebody's personal home and their backyard, but I found her place so peaceful and friendly and absolutely beautiful yard. She was super friendly and I just dropped my dog off and came back and I absolutely loved how she helped. The last place I went to they did a few little nicks and scratches, and there was none when I picked up my dog from Canine Cottage. In fact, she was worried that she clipped a nail too short, cause she thought that she saw blood, but that did not happen. Or at least I didn't see anything wrong. I have had our dog in to the Canine Cottage 3 times now. We have a Chorkie and he doesn't like being groomed. I don't know or understand why Jennifer is getting these kinds of reviews. Each time I've taken my pooch in he has come out looking awesome and smells good. He isn't stressing in any way. I like Jennifer and have recommended her to my neighbors. Not even ONE start this horrible person treated me and my dog like trash. She picks and chooses who to be nice with. This was my last option for a groomer because my dogs usual groomer wasn't available. She was very rude when we showed up she pulled on my dog very aggressively and put her in a cage. My dog was crying a lot and i still left trusting her with my dog. She told me to leave very rudely. When it was time to pick up my dog she came back the same!!!! I've waited about 4 months to review this place so I could write without anger. This was a terrible experience for me, and an even worse experience for my dog. My dog was elderly (with no teeth) and his eyes watered often and abundantly. It would lead to mats that became extremely difficult to control as his hair grew out. I had tried for months to book an appointment for him, and because of the pandemic I kept getting cancellations. It got to the point where I couldn't see either of his eyes and I tried to do it myself a few times and I didn't feel skilled enough. I was afraid I'd hurt him. I was desperate. Even if you're desperate, don't come here. I showed Jennifer my dog and explained that he's really anxious of groomers and that he also has a bad hip from damage sustained to his hip before I owned him. She visibly looked disturbed at the condition he was in. I told her about my cancellations. She said "they canceled after seeing him, right?" in a condescending tone. This is my first red flag. No one has ever tried to guilt me about my dog before. I was already feeling awful about not being able to get him serviced by now, and I said no, it was pandemic cancelations. She said that she would need to soak the eye. I agreed that that was the best plan because that's how I'd been treating it until that point--weekly baths and daily wipe downs, but it was finally so long that it was unmanageable. She tells me that I need to hold him. This was my second red flag. I typically leave my dog with a groomer and return later. She tells me I have to hold him firmly. She said 'I'll just see what I can do,' and then she tells me that if he moves she could cut him. I remind her of his bad hip and, and she tells me to hold it firmly to the table. He's crying, and I'm scared, but I do it because she has sheers at his eyes. She shaves the hair off one eye just fine, in practically 2 seconds. I'm thinking it must not be as bad as I thought, especially because she said she was going to soak it and isn't doing that. She moves to the next eye. She cuts straight into his face. He's screaming, and I'm nearly crying--absolutely mortified. He's bleeding and she says 'I had to, it was so bad.' She also takes this chance to mock me, saying 'Are you sure you're not the one who gets anxious during his grooms?' Jennifer, you are a groomer, not a medical professional. If you believed you "had" to cut him, then you should've told me you couldn't do it. You are not qualified to perform medical procedures. It is not your job to cut anything but hair. The fact that you hurt my dog and then mocked me is not just extremely unprofessional, but downright cruel. I had to pay for a vet visit and treatment. If you have a dog with any behavioral issues, or with any kind of complicated cut, don't bring them here. Just take them to the vet. Seriously. read more

She is so welcoming. My 7.5lb yorkipoo/Bichon-poo is a year and 4 months. I was really nervous for him in the beginning but have been very pleased. Also, my puppers has cotton like hair which I know is not easy. I am so grateful she takes such good care of my baby. I get him groomed pretty short and he's mostly white and has wavy hair. We have two very unsocial dogs who hate being groomed. We've been taking them to Jennifer for about 3 years now; they wag their tales and greet her with affection when we arrive and cuddle with her before we leave. Jennifer has always been kind to them and I know she's careful. I know they're well cared for and that she won't hurt them which you can't always know if you're not there and that is the most important thing. read more

Not happy at all. Was told $100 when I dropped him off. Discussed very specific instructions, like do not touch his tail or head. Just trim around the eyes and maybe touch up around his mouth but I still want him to have beardy look and not short muzzle (he is a poodle mix). Then trim down his back and leg hair mostly. Went to pick him up and was charged $150. She said he was very matted, but that was all/mostly on his legs which I thought she was going to shave off anyway? All of his head hair was gone, muzzle was trimmed way too short, inside of ears weren't balanced out like I asked, he had two uneven gashes in his fur (like, wrong size blade was used on back of head and neck?), and his long, gorgeous eyelashes were GONE. She said she didn't know that I didn't want his head cut and she wasn't sure so she just did it. A) I don't know how many times I repeated myself when I dropped him off B) IF YOU AREN'T SURE WHAT THE OWNER WANTS, CALL THEM - DO NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS. Yes, he got a bath and nail trim and hair does grow back but his haircut is basically the exact opposite of what I asked for and got charged 50% more than quoted for a job not well done. If you decide to come here be VERY clear about what you want, and maybe only come if you have a short haired dog that does not require any sort of style or specific cut. The place is cute and the garden is very beautiful, but the shop behind the house where she does the work smells like cigarette smoke. Luckily my pup didn't come home stinking too bad (can smell it if I sniff close) but it was kind of off putting to be there smelling that odor, even with my mask on. And FYI she doesn't wear a face mask (if you are sensitive about that). Probably not coming back. UPDATE: NEVER coming back. Found another huge bald spot in his fur on his shoulder and it looks like she may have nicked him on his privates and between his toes. I am so so so angry. My dog looks like an idiot and was possibly hurt. Jennifer is not a competent groomer! read more

I take my service dog, a golden retriever, here for grooming and she does a nice job. Service dogs need to look good and be tidy since they're out in public and at restaurants, etc. When we went to recertify, he was the only one that got a compliment on his grooming from the trainers. He also seems happy to see her when I take him there, which is also a recommendation :) read more

Unhappy with the inconsistent service. We took our husky to get a flea bath and she charged $70-80? When we brought him back, she charged $100 for a normal grooming. Not understanding the price discrepancy, but I feel like she took advantage of me as a customer. I came back because she had reasonable rates for reasonable service. I took my dog here the other day. It's a cute place at her home. When I got there Jennifer asked me what I wanted, I said just shorter with the same look he has. She told me the price $130 and said it would take most of the day, that's was fine. She did not call to tell me that she could not do what I asked and that he would need to be shaved. When I got there he was completely shaved looked like a completely different dog and I was still charged the same amount. She should have felt him for matts before I left to see what she was working with. I think I was so shocked and knew there was nothing at that point to make him look any different, so I just handed her the money and went home. Then I noticed how uneven the top of his head was and a little bald spot, I'm so unhappy with this cut. I did send her a message the next day to tell her I wasn't happy and that I should not of been charged the full amount because it wasn't what I wanted and I don't think it takes as long to shave them bald, hair as it would to clip, trim and style. Nice place. Jennifer did a really nice job grooming my Brittany Spaniel. We will be back again.

At first I thought this place would be a hidden gem. Turns out I was HORRIBLY wrong I went to go ask if she could give me a few tips on grooming my dogs (I took my Shih-tzu to get groomed) and in return I would bathe some of the dogs there because I have had 20 years of experience and she loved the idea. she had told me she had trouble keeping people, I wonder why, I'm pretty sure it was the attitude and the criticism that she gave EVERYONE, (about matts) and there is a line between advice and just plain rude and while I was there she crossed the line multiple times. I do appreciate her doing my dog (Noah) and he is an older dog so he didn't have much hair BUT when I took my other Shih-tzu (Jazzie) the criticism started like no tomorrow and she wanted NOTHING to do with me and she kept complaining on how many tangles there were on my dogs when she had told me not to brush out my dogs. I have talked to some of my friends and they have also had a horrible experience. the bottom line is this lady is rude, and quite frankly a brat. She needs anger management classes and a attitude check, I hope this is it. read more

First time taking my Miniature Schnauzer mix to any groomers in general, and I didn't know what to expect when I went to pick him up but I was so pleased. I Have two poodles a toy and a miniature, and I've had some nightmarish results with pet smart and refuse to take them there anymore,so while in Monroe on business I spotted Canine Cottage on Main Street. I made an appointment and Jennifer did an Awesome job on both dogs.......and here's the kicker(the price was reasonable) I drive 20 minutes from home but it's worth it to support this local small business that does excellent work! read more

When I first walked in to this place I was pretty hesitant because its very cluttered and pretty messy, but I decided to still give it a try. I have 2 yorkies and I have always had to pay so much to have them groomed and the job has always been mediocre but when I picked my dogs up from this place they looked absolutely adorable!! You could tell that she really took her time and knew what she was doing. I didnt have any special request, I just like them to look groomed and clean, a "teddy cut." My initial impression was quickly changed and the price was very fair! $65 for 2 Yorkies!? Steal of a deal! I have since been a repeat customer! read more
