One of a kind restaurant, great service by Romeo, good food and entertainment. They serve Elk sliders, fried Gator tail, and Bison burgers. We shared a rib dinner (moist and tender) with loaded baked potato, broccoli and a Shrimp Po' Boy with Mac n Cheese. The Mac n cheese was average, try another side dish instead. There was a band playing in the main dining room. Two teenage sisters joined the band for one set. Little Collette, is a talented guitar player, singer and expert clog dancer. I was blown away. Her sister, Francesca played the fiddle/violin and is also a talented singer. Mark my words, these youngsters will be famous, they brought the house down. We felt like we were in the wilderness with all the animal decor in the main dining room and banquet room. Potential, maybe. Execution, not even close. Saturday at 5. We walk into a crowded lobby with a 20 minute wait. NBD, it's Saturday. It gave us time to peruse the menu. The menu was extremely protein heavy. This really isn't the place for a vegetarian. Not sure it's even the place for anyone watching their diet. Lots of meat, lots of fried, lots of carbs. Our server came by shortly after we were seated. Overall, she did a good job considering the number of tables she had. I was intrigued by the crawfish cakes. Our server dissuaded me from these. I asked about the cod which she heartily endorsed. I ordered the cod, okra and baked potato. The plate also came with fries and hush puppies. My husband ordered the chopped steak, cowboy potatoes and a side salad. Our server brought a basket of corn fritters. While they looked like hush puppies covered in powdered sugar, they tasted like funnel cakes. By far the best part of the meal. My cod was far more breading than fish. I peeled the breading off to find not much more fish than is in a fish stick. The okra was food service quality. Skip it. The fries were soggy. The hush puppies were completely flavorless.The saving grace of the meal was the baker. Honestly, save some calories, save some money - don't order the cod. Since I was still a little enamored by the crawfish cakes, my husband ordered one as an addition to his meal. Our server was absolutely right, skip it. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the plating. The cake was about 3 inches wide. Served in the middle of a large dinner plate. We both found it amusing. My husband said his chopped steak was ok. The highlight being the mushrooms and onions topping the slab of hamburger. Likewise, the onions were the best part of the cowboy potatoes. The onion was not the highlight of the side salad. In this case, there were no highlights. The decor was DIY Bass Pro Shop. There is an attached ice cream shop if you want dessert. Parking was ample and service pretty good. Would we go back? this was the first time I've been here. it has a country atmosphere with a live Bluegrass band playing. they said they have been playing there for 20 years. we ordered the alligator bites. they tasted like chewy chicken. they were ok. ordered a side piece of elk. it was the size of a white castle and wasn't worth $5. I ordered the bison burger. it was ok. tasted like a regular hamburger. I got the buttery corn as a side and it was decent. my son ordered a seafood platter. he received a piece of cod, a pair of frog legs, soggy fries which he had to send back two times to get crispy, shrimp, etc. he asked if he could replace an item to get an extra set of frog legs. they wouldn't do it saying the legs were too expensive. I saw the ribs at the next table which I wished I ordered because they looked really tasty. the corn fritters with powdered sugar on them were delicious. the manager was really nice. We chose Caney Fork River Grill for our first dinner in Nashville while staying at Club Wyndham, and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. We were a group of five and were excited to try the restaurant as we all picked it as the place we wanted to try, but the service and food quality fell far short of expectations. I ordered the bison burger and waited over an hour for our food. During that entire time, our waitress never checked on our table. Eventually, members of the kitchen staff brought out our meals. Everyone in our group had specifically requested our meat cooked medium to medium-rare, but every one in our party's meals came out well done and cold as if the food sitting in the warming window for far too long. Keep in mind that this was around 7:30 pm on a Tuesday so the restaurant wasn't even half full. My bison burger (which was actually their regular frozen burger) was also missing the bacon and other toppings that were supposed to come with it, and the side dish was incorrect. I sent it back, and after a short wait, the replacement came out. Thankfully, the real bison burger itself was actually very good once it was corrected Almost an hour and a half later. What was most disappointing was how the situation was handled. Despite the extremely long wait, incorrect orders, and poor service, nothing was offered to make up for the experience. To make matters worse, gratuity was automatically added to the bill. We had a group of 5. Given that our server barely acknowledged us during our wait, or even knew we had issues when different servers brought us our stuff while she sat in the break room laughing with her friends. I do not feel that the service justified a tip. There wasn't one of us that had their meal cooked the way we wanted. Everything well done and if we weren't hungry we would have left. Unfortunately, this was a poor first impression of Nashville dining. I would not recommend Caney Fork River Grill based on our experience. read more

Excellent food, friendly service, and fun ambiance -- we really enjoyed our stop at Caney's today. We had the full rack of St Louis ribs and the Caney chicken. The ribs were so tender, they fell right off the bone. The chicken was tasty, well-seasoned, and smothered in cheese, mushrooms, and onions. For sides, we liked the green beans, corn on the cob, and mashed potatoes. The complimentary fritters were so yummy!! We also enjoyed some local beers - the wheat lemonade shandy was very refreshing. There is an ice cream place right next door, but we didn't have any room left. I hope to be back soon! read more

Stayed at a serviceable Quality Inn by the Gaylord for a convention and this place was right next door so too tired to go anywhere I gave it a shot and very glad I did. It's a quaint, Western/rustic interior and since I was solo I sat at the bar for dinner. The unique thing about this place is they serve wild game. First night I was going to try the Buffalo sirloin but the wild game sampler platter won out and I'm glad it did. So much good stuff I couldn't finish it all and I'm not a light eater. The elk patties were excellent. My server was the bartender and he was great. So the next I went back for the buffalo sirloin and it delivered. My only 2 complaints about this place was the bowl for my Caesar salad was too small and the fried okra portion was too small. Everything else was great. I've lived in the area for just over 10 years now, and have not dined at some of the old-school tourist favorites (including this one). I had some family visiting from out of town and offered this as an option to rectify that, and so we finally checked out Caney Fork. Huge interior, but early on a Saturday it was sparsely populated. Large space with ample parking, so a nice choice to have in Nashville overall. The menu is pure southern food from breakfast staples to ribs and BBQ to catfish. Some "meat and three" plus burger/sandwich options to boot. A lot of drink options including some really competitive pricing for beer and cocktails. Way cheaper you're apt to get at most tourist draws. I had a BBQ plate, my wife had the catfish. Both were solid/good. The beans (white) and okra were very tasty as well. All in all, a reasonably priced old-school diner with some local charm. read more

We were greeted and sat very quickly. The exterior/interior of the restaurant looks like a fishing cabin. My son had a steak that he said was seasoned very well. I had the fried shrimp with corn and potatoes. It was very good. It was not overly greasy. My oldest had the alligator sliders and fries. The waiter/bartender knew his menu and he didn't hesitate to recommend the ribs which were exactly as described "fall off the bone good". Tired and hungry after flying into Nashville. Checked into Wyndham Club and wanted something close by. Caney came up in my search. They advertise frog legs but I passed on that option. I was deciding between the chopped steak or the elk sliders. Our server Dora was a sweetheart. She recommended the sliders. Sometimes wild game can be dry. Not the case for these sliders. They were yummy. Well seasoned. I'm not a fan of coleslaw but it along with the fried onions were great toppings for the slider. Live music catered to adults and kids. I love banjo music so really enjoyed it as part of the overall experience. Warning, if you're opposed to taxidermy decoration this is not the place for you. The horned ram kept staring at me and the weird animal on the overhang of the truck was a bit disturbing. Found out it was the face of a possum and body of a raccoon. This is a very large restaurant with a lot of seating and taxidermy. The service was great and very friendly. The catfish bites were great and very fresh. The ribs were not as great as expected. I definitely would not classify them as the best ribs in Nashville as they claimed. They were overcooked and fell off the bone, looking more like pulled pork. They tasted like they were steamed. The service was excellent -- our server and their shadow trainee were both pleasant, attentive, and helpful. Unfortunately, the timing wasn't great. We came in on a night with multiple large parties, and our order ended up at the very end of the line. We waited an extremely long time for our food, and when it finally arrived, it was disappointing. I ordered a buffalo burger cooked medium, but what I got was a very dry patty -- not what I expected. One more note: the restrooms need attention. They felt more like a gas station restroom than a restaurant. Yikes. So our server told us that today was his first day serving by himself. So I'm going to give him a pass. He was very friendly and seemed to truly care. The food was fine. We got the appetizer sampler and the bison strip loin. The bison was tender however, there was a lot of drizzle on the cut and it had almost no seasoning. The onion rings and pickles were decently flavorful when dipped in stuff otherwise they also had minimal flavor. The best thing we got were the chicken wings, but again no seasoning without dipping them in barbecue and or buffalo sauce. The ambience was cute. It looks like a bass pro shop shooting range and I mean that as a compliment and on the night that we went, there was a live bluegrass band although to be fair I have no frame of reference for Bluegrass to tell you if they were good or not, but it was certainly a different dinner experience read more

We had a fun time at this unique restaurant! The decor definitely makes you feel as if you're in the bayou. Unfortunately it was our first time here and we weee seated in the bar area instead of the main dining room. There was live bluegrass music in the main area and we had to get up from our table to go enjoy. They even asked if it was our first time and we said yes and they still sat us in the timeout corner. The food was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed the ribs, catfish, gator bites and steak. The campfire potatoes were good, as was the fried okra. The cornmeal coating on the catfish and gator was super flavorful and crunchy! Some of the best catfish I've ever had. The highlight of the mean was 100% the at table campfire s'mores! I highly recommend you try this! We had so much fun roasting marshmallows. From what I could tell, this restaurant attracts an older clientele. The server was incredibly nice and helpful. He had a great attitude and made recommendations, which I always appreciate. The quality of the food was about as average as possible. Both my ribs and corn had the slightest taste of seafood which was honestly a little off putting. The ribs also were very heavy with cartilage, I was finding myself removing these pieces from my mouth many times throughout the meal. The beans I think may have just been Busch's. I was disappointed because I love ribs and these were labeled as "Nashvilles best". I would not get these again. In my experience, this is a conveniently placed restaurant with nice service. The perfect place to take my parents from a small farm town. Feels like a spot you'd see in Gatlinburg. Friendly service, tasty food.
