It was great all the appetizers, octopus, artichokes, mussels, olives and the warm bread they even got me butter hahahaha. 5* for on-point service, atmosphere of a dressier restaurant 3* for Paella Valenciana Canela came recommended by a local tour guide, so I was excited to check it out for my only dine-in paella experience in Valencia. I sat upstairs, overlooking the front of the restaurant. Canela has a nice ambiance of a white table cloth/wine glasses on table setting. Female server was very on-point, pleasant. A small "tapa" of hummus on top of small tostadas were provided after ordering which was nice. I saw that other tables were offered shots of some liquor as an digestif, but perhaps that were for people with larger orders? Since we just came here for the paella, that's what we just ordered. I believe it also came with bread. Paella did take some time to roll out, which is understandable, ~20mins. I'm not sure if the dish was soo overhyped, but I found Canela's version too salty. I expected it to have more of a saffron taste, but it was more salt/rosemary. Looked well-presented though! Overall, I cannot recommend the paella here, as it wouldn't be something that I'd order again. However, it seemed as though it was a popular dish to order since all the locals, in surrounding tables, had it for lunch. read more

I came here for dinner on the recommendation of a nearby bar owner, and it did not disappoint. As soon as we walked in, we knew we were in the right place. It's beautiful inside, spacious, clean, and modern. The food was traditional Spanish with a twist. We started with octopus, then had a seafood paella. Both were wonderful. They also had a good selection of local wines, which the server explained in great detail. The only disappointment of the night was dessert, so I'd probably skip that course. Walking the streets in Valencia, we found Canela. A nice atmosphere and very attentive staff. The server was super nice. Too bad I don't remember his name. Very gracious and kind. Made us feel like we were regulars to the place,. He gave us a tour of Canela's menu considering that we were not locals. We decided the menu that they had available that night, of course with the option of Paella. Every single plate he brought was made to perfection. Many things that we re not familiar were just delicious. Traveling with kids is not always easy when we talk about food, this time we all, adults and kids were highly satisfied. this would have gotten 5 stars because the vegan paella was so good, but the customer service was not. they made it almost impossible for 3 people to share 2 paellas and we argued with the staff saying we would pay and would eat it, which we did. it ruined the experience, and i understand the custom of two ppl per paella but if we are paying and eating it shouldn't be a problem. it was embarrassing and annoying to order what we wanted. we got a seafood one and vegan one and the vegan one was much better. read more

Canela serves traditional Valencia food but with a little modern twist. Valencia is the home of paella, and canela is apparently the place to get it! There are two restaurants that both share a kitchen, which are just down the road from each other. You can occasionally see waiters running paella from one restaurant to another. We were lucky enough to get a table outside, likely because we came early, at around 8:30. Please note that they do not serve dinner on Sunday night and are closed on Monday. We started off with the cuttlefish, which was SO good. We also had the seafood paella, which was excellent as well. Finished off the meal with apple pie, which is not really my thing, but the boyfriend liked it. Highly recommend you try this place if you're looking for a good Paella. read more

This was a pretty good restaurant. The prices were cheaper and the meal came with free bread, a small appetizer, and a dessert shot. The food portions were decent sizes and flavorful. We did have one issue with this restaurant. We had was we ordered five pieces of the fried cheese and the waiter brought out five PLATES (20 pieces of cheese total) which costed us 42€. There was only 9 of us girls eating there so we feel as if he did it on purpose or there may have been a translation error. Either way he should have confirmed as the cheese was huge and there's no way anybody could have finished it. We informed the waiter and he just shrugged is shoulders and got mad. This was very disappointing. Also the sangria was strong but super sweet. Overall I would probably go back, but just watch and make sure you confirm your order. read more

Nice restaurant with a great view if you sit outside. Highly recommend having a reservation as it was super busy. We didn't have one and had to wait until 10. Service was BAD. Waited at least 20 minutes to have our drinks ordered and another 15-20 to get our food order taken and only after we got the waiters attention. Drinks were good, wine, beer and gin and tonics. They didn't bring bread to our table although it seems they did most of the others, but did bring it after we asked. Paella was GOOD, with the wait. We ordered the shrimp, squid and seasonal vegetable paella and it was delicious. Also got the valencian one which was also good but quite salty for our taste. Canela was highly recommended by many locals for paella. Since I was in Valencia, I was determined to eat as much paella as possible. I wanted to avoid the touristy places though and eat like the locals. I am glad I listened to the recommendation. We showed up without a reservation which I do not recommend. Luckily, they were able to accommodate us but our table was not in the most convenient place. We were seated right at the doorway so we felt all of the gusts of wind, as the door opened, everyone walked past us on arrival bumping into us on occasion but we had a seat. We started with wine, bread, and a calamari appetizer. I know I said we came for paella but we ended up with the Lobster "soggy rice." It's similar to the paella in its preparation but it was more wet and creamy like risotto. The flavor was good and we really enjoyed it. It was filled with lots of seafood and a half of lobster. We ate every last bite. We ended the meal with dessert. The staff was amazing. They were knowledgeable and attentive. They did not rush us through our meal and allowed us to eat at our own pace. We enjoyed our meal and the service overall. I would defnitely receommend this restaurant for an authentic paella experience. read more

I booked a reservation here as this was a popular place for paella, and they book real fast. If you come here without a reservation, you probably won't get served. Even at 1:30 PM when they open, all tables were reserved. I ordered the Valencian paella, which had chicken, rabbit, and vegetables, and it only cost 10 euro per person. They accommodate to solo guests, so if you're dining alone, don't fret. They will serve you a single person's portion and honor the price. The server brought out bread service, which included a tomato jam and olives. They also brought out a sample-sized complimentary taster of some pureed dish of some sort. It only took about 15 minutes or so before my paella arrived, and it was heaven! It's as good as they say, and compared to other restaurants, this was the best value for paella I had ever seen. The quality was high, and there was plenty of meat in the rice to make this all worth it. The bill added a 1.50 euro surcharge or tax. We got the last table without a reservation here, after walking in circles to find it (thanks to Google maps). This place delivered. We were on a Globus group tour, but could not imagine another hotel buffet in the city of paella. We were very happy with the atmosphere, service and food here. We had the pulpo as an appetizer, and it was excellent. The paella with chicken, rabbit and vegetables and the seafood paella were recommended by the waiter and they were both delicious. As a digestif, we were served what was described to us as the Valencia version of sambucca and it was like manna from heaven. We don't know the real name of it but now we are in search of it as our holy grail. If anyone can tell us what it is we will be eternally grateful. Please help! read more

Went with some Spanish work colleagues of mine. Who asked some folks on the street which restaurant they would recommend for a semi-upscale dinner place, compared to the tourist trap further down the street. They ordered several things for appetizers (Jamon Bellota and croquetas I believe, black squid, and Iberian ham) and they were all fabulous! I had the Sea Bass entree which was very yummy as well! After driving through the Valencia city streets and almost giving up on finding parking, we found a street park and miraculously Canela was within spitting distance for the regional delicacy (and birthplace!) of Valencia, paella . It was 2:35pm and we were almost certain that we'd be turned away on a Sunday afternoon with the closing hour of 3pm. But no, a friendly older make welcomed us in with a smile and sat us within 5 mins of an already full & bustling restaurant. Ordered the Valencia paella which is chicken, rabbit & vegetable paella. The flavours which come through are rosemary and a deep caramelisation highlighted by the slightly metallic/game taste unique to rabbit meat, complemented by sweetness of chicken pieces on the bone, served with melt-in-the-mouth broad beans & snow peas. The serving sizes are really generous and this is super-reasonably priced white table cloth serviced meals. The paella for two was €10. Thanks for our pleasant paella experience - highly recommended! First off, these guys had a gesture to take us without reservation. The place is nice and classy and the complementary tapas, free wood spoon and free liquor shots was a surprise! Have ordered Croquetas de Jamón which was huge and indeed the most delicious have ever tried. The Valencias Paella was good also, however I'll stick with Seafood one. They deserve a 5-stars rating but the only downward was the rude attitude of our waiter, the guy with beard. This guy could be a serous problem for the business! read more

It was packed when we got there and stayed very busy throughout the night, so I highly recommend making a reservation. The valencian paella was probably one of the best paella I had during my trip to Valencia. We also ordered the sangria which was very sweet but delicious! Canela is very good. We were on a trip of Spain and Valencia was our 5th city. Canela was our favorite meal. The food was excellent as was the service and prices. We had jamon croquetas to begin and a goat cheese salad, both were excellent. Then we had 2 Paellas, a Paella Valenciana and a Paella de Mariscos, both were very good and with ample portions. We also had a bottle of wine, which was surprisingly very good. This was all for what we thought was an economical €92. And did I mention the service? The service was very good, they changed our plates and silverware after every course, this seems normal but not many restaurants do it these days. Have you ever experienced a moment in time that was utterly perfect? That moment happened to me here. The music, the food, the atmosphere was just perfect. No joke- I shed a tear (or two). What I like about this restaurant is that they accommodate solo diners. Even when I ordered my appetizer, the server said, "it's a pretty big portion for one person, I can half it." I appreciated that (it was still too much). Several times, the chef and other staff came to check on me and see how I liked the food. The bread was so good. I ordered the fried cheese- good, very rich. I was also given seafood croquette to sample - not sure if these are served in appetizer form but they should be. For my entree, I ordered the paella with shrimp, calamari and vegetables. This dish has been added to my "best things I ever ate" list. Only 5 things on there- this made the cut. Very bad service. Do not order the paella as it was very salty and the seafood was not fresh. When it came to paying for the meal, they charged us for 2 paella's because we were two. The menu showed an upfront cost and failed to communicate that we would be charged per person and we were therefore hung with an exorbitant check. As a visitor to Valencia and Spain, this was the perfect place for dinner. The Paella Valenciana was well presented and tasted great. To be honest, I thought the Valencian wine wasn't noticeably different from other red wines, but I may not have enough of a discerning palate for fine distinctions in wine. Lovely restaurant! No terrazzo, reservations recommended. Plenty of vegetarian options (but watch out, lots of fish included in that section). Though it's not a tapas place, the four of us ended up ordering 4 appetizers (the cured meat plate, fried camembert with blueberry sauce, the mushrooms in blue cheese sauce, and the evening special of artichokes and foie gras (which the waiter kindly served on a side plate), along with a vegetarian paella. We could have/should have stopped at the appetizers - Delicious and filling! The carnivores in our group very much enjoyed the cured meats, the fried camembert was yummy, the artichokes while good, we're slightly sweet(?), so not my favorite, but the mushrooms in blue cheese sauce was AMAZING! They also provide complimentary bread and a small plate of olives and tomato spread. The vegetarian paella was tasty, but not the best that I ate in Valencia (more heavy-handed with the saffron then other places). Service and wine selection were stellar - Highly recommend! read more
