Was invited to a girls' night out at Candyland Craft to decorate cupcakes, sip on wine, munch on snacks, and enjoy some good laughs! Walked into the store and it looked like a crafter bakers' dream! While walking towards the back for the class, I peeped so many unique baking supplies! This review is only based on the cupcake decorating class. Once we arrived, the supplies for the class were already provided at the seat. Six plain cupcakes was in a container, along with disposable icing bags, tips, food coloring, and bowl(s) of white buttercream icings. The instructor was nice and showed the class how to decorate the cupcakes into three different styled flowers; which was lots of fun! While decorating the cupcakes, we sipped wine, ate snacks, and enjoyed each other's company. Which we brought our own wine and snacks. One of the ladies from our group was able to connect to Candyland Crafts' Bluetooth to play music! It was an enjoyable time! =) read more

I attended the Buttercream Flowers class and it was an excellent experience. I was part of a small class (3). Our instructor was very knowledgeful of the various techniques for making different flowers and gave us a lot of individual attention and guidance. We learned how to make 5 different flowers to decorate our cupcakes which we were then able to take home. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, an excellent experience. I love this store! I come here for so many baking supplies and the cookie cutters are affordable! I also love how they have so many different colors of Merckens chocolate for molds/cake pops/pretzels. The best part about the store is how helpful the staff is. I went in today and showed an employee the type of royal icing I'm trying to achieve and she gave me perfect advice. She also helped me find other types of icing in the store that could help me achieve my end result. Unfortunately, I feel like this place has lost its touch and old-time, welcoming feel. I recently ordered over the phone and whomever packed up my order gave me the wrong item. When I called (I had to call 3x because no one was answering) the girl didn't even apologize. When my sister went to pick up my order, she said there was this woman up front trying to push her to buy some soaps and was annoying. It ruined the experience for her. My family has been coming here for the last 25 years. I live 2 hours away and still went there to get my chocolate (nostalgic & sentimental reasons). However, by the negative experiences and lack of customer service feels, I will buy my chocolate near me now. I wish this place kept to its old-time, cozy feel. This review is solely on their online mail-order business. I work hellish hours so a lot of my shopping research is done online. I had it in my (crazy) mind to make the favors for my son's first birthday party and I found some lollipops candy sticks on Pinterest that looked amazing. But since they were uber expensive, I decided to make my own. First came the hard part--figuring out how to make the hard candy. I found Candyland Crafts via a Google search and I chose them because they had Western Themed hard candy molds. I surfed their website some more and found some simple directions on how to make the lollipops. I also liked that they had so many candy flavorings to choose from and the prices on everything was so reasonable. I ordered everything I needed--candy thermometer, candy molds, lolly sticks and flavorings. It's 1am and I just finished making the lollipops. The kitchen smells wonderful from the watermelon flavoring and the lollipops look pretty darn good. I've never reviewed a business that I've used for online/mail-order, but I really felt I needed to give CC a shout-out. The items I purchased came on time, were well-packaged (super packaged to prevent breakage) and I am just so impressed by the variety of candy making supplies CC has available for online purchasing. Awesome place to get hard to find edible items for cakes,cupcakes and candy making . I make panoramic sugar eggs and go there for a lot of my supplies. They also offer lots of classes to learn how to make cakes and all kinds of other Desserts, the owner Hires incredible artists, and some professional chefs to teach some of these classes. This place is a baker's dream!! It is designed for cake making more than anything else but even for a cookie maker like myself, I don't know where I'd be without this store. They have sprinkles, cookie cutters, packaging, chocolates, cake pans and molds for every holiday! They even have an entire room of molds! Everyone is always helpful. The store is quite large and is usually busy. It has normal small-town hours (closed on Sundays) so make to check that first. They also have a small section of soap-making products. There are kits and individual ingredients, like essential oils. Amazing. I can't lie, I was a bit overwhelmed- especially in their molds room! They really do have every baking supply imaginable. Parking wasn't too bad, we got street parking, and it was free after 5pm. It wasn't too busy when I first walked in (me and maybe 2 other people) but as time went on more and more people were coming in. One of the best deals for candy. The last batch though seemed old, chocolate was not as fresh as it has been in the past. They are fast on delivery and always update me on when my package has arrived. Hard sometimes to order different candy because they are always limited in my area for some reason, so it feels that I order the same thing every time, would love more choices of candy. I do not bake things requiring decorations, but I am a passionate fan of Spritz (cookie press) cookies at Christmas, and they need to be decorated wildly. Your company has more types of decoration that I even imagined. My particular favorites are the pale glittery flakes (cannot remember the name atm and they are packed away) which give a slight color and glitter to the cookies. Candyland Crafts has one of the "best" choices when it comes to candy molds. I don't use these for candy but for clay and plaster crafts and I've been very happy with the vast selection they have. I just have to say A+ to the owners and workers at Candyland Crafts in Somerville, NJ. The owner there, Barry, truly puts his heart into his work. Just today, I was going in for a soap making class with my dtr, au pair and another friend's daughter -- they cancelled the class and for some reason lost my name from the list so I never got a phone call. Obviously disappointing, but to make up for it, Barry gave each of the girls a kit so they could make soap at home, and then rescheduled our class as a private one! The "soap lady" there even called us personally to apologize. Their store is so beautiful and you can tell they just all deeply care about what they do and the connections they make. Here's to local small businesses! I definitely will book a birthday party there soon - it's the perfect place! And they have lots of adorable classes for the family too. Good service and items ship in a timely manner. They have boxes perfect for dippped strawberries with 1 dozen cavities. The boxes are a little pricey but classy, not found with other retailers; I've researched and visited many stores. Recently attended a class on how to make buttercream flowers, taught by Daniel Colonel, a CIA/Hyde Park graduate. I've never done anything like that before and the class was way more fun than I had expected. I was told it was more of an advanced class, but Daniel made it fun and (relatively) easy. I will definitely be signing up for more classes -- the royal icing cookie one for sure and maybe even "basics of piping."
