Hooray Monica R - we agree on the spelling! Well, you can imagine this shop right at the end of the Willy Wonka factory tour. Rows upon rows of clear jars containing old style sweets. The assistants are happy to advise and offer little tastings. Your choice of goodies are packaged in retro style paper bags to take away and share. The last decade when going back I've never found good ones in a pick n mix or in the bags at the grocery stores, I was only able to find cheaper versions and then I stumbled across Hardy's in London! Wow they have the most delicious Bon Bon's in every flavor you can possibly think of! I needed them to last a while so I bought a pre mixed bag for around 3 pound that had toffee, apple, blue berry, vimto, lemon, strawberry...you name the flavor and they had it! The other cool thing about this shop for UK residents is that they have all the "American" candy along with Flips pretzels, peanut butter, marshmallow fluff and other goodies. To me I obviously have this stuff everyday but my local friend was just as excited about the American candy and treats as I was with the bon bon's, we definitely walked out with a sugar high!

There are often queues of children lurking around, eyes wide with pleasure at the vast shelves full of treats that await them! Such treats come at a price. I'm not sure whether I remember penny sweets as correctly being a penny when I was a child (i think some of them had migrated to two pence by then!) but it is a tad expensive. All of the standard favorites: humbugs, sherbet dips, chocolate-covered everything, fruit-shaped everything...you get the idea. But imagine my absolute surprise when I spied a shelf stocked with American candy, cereals, and snacks...including my favorite: Cheetos. Not even 48 hour prior, I was telling my husband that I would go to obscene lengths to have a bag of Cheetos, so strong was my craving for the vile snack food. Little did I know that all I needed to do was go to Oxford and visit Hardy's. Sorted! Now excuse me while I go wash the orange from my fingers...

There were many photo opportunities and lots of demonstrations as well. The sales people worked for the store and there was no pressure at all. We were there a little under an hour and discovered many new items. Our kids really enjoyed the lego and Wicked themed areas. There is also a cotton candy machine where you can watch it being made through the glass, all automated. We somehow left without purchasing anything due to our inability to take it back home.
