I passed by this place when I came out of the south Kensington tube stop and had to stop in because it smelled amazing! There was a little bit of a line outside but it went by quick. Once we got to the front of the line you could pick how many cookies you wanted and what flavours. I ended up getting 4 different flavours - milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate macadamia nut, and cranberry white chocolate. They were all delicious and even tasted great the next day! As for the service and ambiance, since there quite a line the service was friendly but quick, and there was no where to sit so you had to grab your cookies to go. Tricked! Like a moth to a flame (burned by the fire), this fatty can't resist the temptation of cookies, brownies, etc. Pair a cookie shop directly next to a train and you have a dangerous combo (for my waistline and wallet). As knower and eater of all things sweet and delicious, believe me when I say that I've had much better cookies. The people behind the counter as are nice as can be and were extremely accommodating. But, the product... it just wasn't there. I imagine that given its location, this particular Ben's Cookies does very well for itself. They don't need my business. But, the disappointment (yes, fully aware of the first-world problem) I felt when digging in to my double chocolate with nuts cookies was total sad trombonish. The cookie looked beautiful and the texture -- not my particular style with billowy, soft qualities -- wasn't enough to turn me off. What turned my smile upside down was the flavor. There's little excuse for a *double* chocolate cookie with nuts to taste bland. There's just not. I still don't understand how such a thing is possible. But, yet, there it was on my tongue and (soon) in my tummy: white noise cookie. The Cookie Monster would have pitched a fit (while nonetheless eating a metric ton of the cookies). OMG! SO. DELICIOUS!!! Also, there's a 4 for 3 deal. My friend and I got the Orange and milk chocolate, the milk chocolate and peanut butter, the double-chocolate chip, and the macademia/white chocolate one. SO GOOD!!! There's no seating, so we stood outside South Kensington Station by the statue things shaped sort of like trees and ate our cookies in pure bliss. Another one of South Kensington's yummy offerings, don't pass this little shop at the side of the tube station without sampling a box. As they're sold in weight be careful not to go too crazy as they're best eaten fresh out of the oven, they're not nearly as good cold (once you've tried them warm there really is no other option) so just make sure you buy enough to last the afternoon. You can always go back for more! They're not exactly healthy, most are laden with huge, warm, melting chunks of chocolate, but Ben must have a cookie shaped heart as they don't contain any nasty artificial additives, colourings or preservatives. Even if they did, I would probably still eat them as they're the perfect cookie; crisp to bite, with a soft oozing centre. I've nibbled my way through boxes and boxes of the Praline and Milk Chocolate ones. As Cookie Monster says, "C is for cookie" and once you've tried Ben's that will be all it stands for. read more

It's September and I'm home in NYC. My large problem at the moment? I'm sitting here, daydreaming about Ben's Cookies. And it's been far too long since my last one in April of this year (and before that, May of 2009). Ben and friends must have planned for me when they chose their South Kensington location. It's my usual Tube stop when in London and only about a three minute walk from my ex-pat cousins' house. I remember that first, warm bite I had over a year ago. The yummy goodness took the edge off the last remaining bit of my jet lag. When coming out of the Tube the next day, I spied the storefront and thought that one quick pit stop wouldn't hurt. Then those pit stops came more and more frequently. What I wouldn't do for a Dark Chocolate and Nut or Praline and Milk Chocolate cookie now, especially when they are soft, gooey, and freshly put on the tray from the oven. Mmmm. I found myself at Ben's cookies after a long day of museums. I saw the sign about warm cookie sandwiches, which brought back memories of Specialty's in San Francisco. It sounded amazing. I had a peanut butter cookie and a small scoop of the toffee ice cream. The ice cream was delicious--wonderfully smooth with the perfect sweetness that mirrored toffee, caramel etc. However, the cookie was very disappointing. They were not warm cookies. They looked like chewy cookies in the cabinet, but they were slightly too hard and very dense. They had real peanuts, but the peanut butter cookie did not have as strong a taste as I prefer in most of my peanut butter cookies. Mmmmm gooey warm chocolate chip cookies! I think that about says it all no? I am a fan though must say too, they don't really taste like american chocolate chip cookies. Seems to be a mix of the former and an english biscuit but despite them being slightly different then what I'm used to in the good ole' US of A they are yummy. Just make sure that they actually give you a warm one. I just saw somebody else reviewing Ben's cookies and I had to jump in there and say my piece. I found this place completely by accident. I was headed to my friends student flat near the Royal Albert Hall, as she had promised me a cup of tea. And then I saw this charming little cookie place. Now, this place is just like a little doorway by the station - all you can really do there is buy cookies. There's no room to sit, no room to huddle in a group, no room to start an unexpected game of quiddich. The cookies are absolute genius. They don't taste like I know cookies to taste like; they're more like cake. They're quite big, and soft, and... just perfectness really. They taste like the first time you kissed your beautiful girlfriend, they taste even more like the time you finally dumped her and felt free. Seriously, this place is great. Genuinely, if you have a morning free - jump on the train and get some of their cookies. They're not too expensive but even if they were - I assure you, totally worth it!. read more

Ben's Cookies originated from the Covered Market of my hometown, Oxford, so I always feel a near-patriotic sense of pride when I happen across a branch. The format of South Kensington one is close to the original one in Oxford's Covered Market: a booth, with a small area to stand in whilst frantically trying to decide which type of cookie to order. Cookies are sold by weight. Typically one cookie costs around £1.30, but there are various offers to be had for bargain hunters/cookie gluttons. And the product itself? Goooooood: inch-thick, doughy cookies that melt, rather than crunch, in the mouth. In fact, not like anything else on the market, which is to their credit. My favourite Ben's Cookies story is that one of my sisters used to work for rival firm Millie's cookies (typically found in railway stations and shopping malls). Obviously this meant she could sample Millie's cookies for free. But so incomparable was the experience that she used to troop over town, in her Millie's uniform, to buy a cookie from Ben's Cookies! Yeah Yeah good cookies. Really good cookies. There's nothing else about Ben's Cookies, but really good cookies. They make them all on premise. And it's not like your squidgy gloopy Miss Millies cookies, these are gourmet. So, crisp on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. And wonderful, beautiful flavours. We had some white chocolate and macademia, which were amazing. Teeth slip through the nuts so easy. Just gorgeous. I like the way that they cook them all here. Even after holding onto the cookies for a while after purchase, they somehow don't become brittle or hard and keep their soft and chewy texture. Service Review: Not much to say about their service as it is pretty much grab-n-go. Venue Review: All the Ben's Cookies shops I've been to have been very small, with just enough room to make your order and leave. So not the kind of place you want to meet at with friends, but great for snacks and taking to-go. Overall Impression: THE best cookie shop I've ever been to. Forget the fancy confectionary shops and the over-priced choclatiers. In terms of desserts in London, one need look no further than Ben's Cookies. Freshly baked jumbo cookies in a variety of unique flavors? Check. Delicious ice cream? Check. What more can you need? Ben's chain of mini-bakeries sells their melt-in-your-mouth fresh treats at reasonable prices based on weight, and for around only £1 per cookie, they're well worth it. They close relatively early, but if you time your visit you can get your cookies straight out of the oven and add a scoop of ice cream for a guilt-inducing treat that you'll no doubt struggle to prevent from turning into a daily habit. In terms of classic desserts in London, Ben's really truly is the best of the best. Quick Tip: While it's not on the menu, you can ask them to take two cookies and sandwich the ice ream in between them, which makes for an amazing treat. read more

Ah, Ben's Cookies. The perfect place to stop by after getting off the tube (South Ken station) to satisfy your appetite before cooking up dinner. It's also the perfect dessert after getting lunch in town before heading out. Regardless of the occasion, I would never say no to a cookie from Ben's. The first time I got a cookie from Ben's, I was surprised that the woman ringing up my order could not tell me the exact price until my cookie had been weighed. But after biting into that warm, fresh first cookie, I knew I was hooked for life...or at least for my three-month stay in the area. I was very impressed and satisfied by the cookies I tried. After reading a few reviews here, I'm kicking myself for not trying every single flavor (like the chocolate orange). Maybe Ben's Cookies gets five stars because of my nostalgia for living in South Kensington while studying abroad. Or maybe it really is as good as it gets when it comes to cookies. As the world's greatest housemate I only buy Ben's Cookies one way; 15 at a time. The large box is £15.95 and you get 15 cookies which means you can have one of every flavour, and a couple of double-ups (double chocolate and nuts or peanut butter and chocolate, please). They are cooked to perfection in that they are slightly underdone and stay supersoft through the middle, which coincidentally is exactly how I bake all my cookies, and brownies, and slices, and sometimes cakes... Simply delicious. I was in London for a few days for spring break and when my friend told me about these cookies, I just had to go try them, and they were the best cookies I've ever had. I wouldn't have thought to go here otherwise, since it's just a little shop next to the Tube station. I think in the span of a week, I went back here at least once or twice more. The cookies were alright. Good but bot amazing. I got the peanut butter chocolate and I wish it either had more peanuts or was more peanut butter tasting. Also had the double chocolate walnut, and it needed more walnuts. I believe in giving second chances, and for Ben's Cookies, I've given them about three. Each time I've had a cookie, I've been sorely disappointed. It's really naughty how they entice you in to buy them: from their cute Quentin Blake illos, yummy smells and mouthwatering flavours and big generous portions. And yet, and yeteach time I've had one, the cookie has tasted horribly underbaked - plucked out of the oven before its time. I bought 2 last Sat, a dark chocolate cookie and a lemon cookie, and both had that taste of unbaked cookie dough. Practically my favorite thing as a child, was a Ben's Cookies cake for my Birthday. The cake consisted of about 8 cookies all baked together into a giant squishy, gooey piece of deliciousness. Part of the appeal of these cookies was originally the Quentin Blake logo, which I am fairly sure has plenty of children convinced they have something to do with the fabulous children's author Roald Dahl. However once they experience the magic that is a Bens Cookie, any fictional reference becomes irrelevant. These cookies are by far the best I have ever tasted. The chocolate based flavors in particular have a particular appeal, as they are stuffed with huge chunks of soft warm chocolate. Never get these to take home, you have to eat them straight away, while they are still warm. read more

I was recently having a conversation about cookies with friends, as you do, and Ben's cookies came up. I had vaguely heard of the place, and passed it many times, but never tried it. Obviously as soon as I expressed my fondness for a gooey middle I was told I had to try Bens, and so next time I passed one that is what I did. I was not disappointed! The flavour selection is very impressive, thus far I have only tried white choc and peanut butter and chocolate, so there are loads left for me to try. I have heard about the ice cream sandwiches being amazing, have yet to check this out myself but I don't doubt it. I now seem unable to pass a Bens without suddenly getting the urge for a cookie, but as they have also had the effect of other cookies paling in comparison this is ok by me!!
