DoubleTree Northshore isn't a bad pick IF and only IF you get a good deal for it. If you pay full…read moreprice, I reckon it's not worth it. The staff is nice and they do their job. The hotel however is very old and has lots of not-so-enjoyable quirks as a result... While our room was clean for the most part, the shower was difficult to operate (defective more like) and the showerhead had mold growing on it. The bed sheets were clean EXCEPT for that one corner with a smear of something red (blood? raspberry jam? take your pick!) and the bed itself was so soft I thought it would swallow me whole. I could barely move. The pillows were soft beyond what's reasonable for a human head. Noise from other hotel guests was by far the biggest issue. Paper thin walls meant I could hear the TV and guests speaking next door. Across the hallway, another guest was playing music SO loud that hotel staff came to knock on his door to warn him to keep it down. They had to knock 10 times for the guy to hear them and answer the door. Gives you an idea! At least the staff was proactive... Oh did I mention there's a crack under the room door that is almost an inch high? All sounds from the hallway will echo inside your room as a result. Nice... said no one ever. So, as I said in my intro, if you get a good deal like we did, all these issues might be worth putting up with. Otherwise, stay away if you value good sleep.

This place is a complete dump. The people at the check in desk were polite, but that's the only…read morepositive I am going to highlight. Right when you self-park, the lot near the waterpark is riddled with feet-deep potholes. They don't even care to maintain their parking lot, and they have the audacity to ask you to pay $10 to park in this unmonitored, unmaintained lot. Ridiculous. I booked a waterpark package for 1 night. I am an Honors member, so I checked in on the app at 2:30pm. My room was assigned but not ready, so I checked with the desk to see if we could use the waterpark while we waited. They said yes and that our room would be ready in about 30 minutes. We headed to the waterpark. The waterpark is filthy. Trash is floating in the lazy river and is everywhere in the facades throughout the park. It's dusty everywhere and the chlorine in the air made our eyes burn. The floor is dark and grimey and clearly has not been maintained in years. I kept stepping on a weave at the bottom of the pool with the basketball hoops. Lifeguards are apathetic, at best. There is no order to anything, it's basically a free for all with no one monitoring the poor behavior of patrons or the safe execution of the 1 or 2 slides in working order. We are actually grossed out by the entire waterpark, of which nearly all attraction slides are unavailable, so we decide to dry off and just wait for our room. 4pm comes and goes so I go back to the front desk. They say the app "didn't go through" (what? I had a room number assigned) and that I have a new room, which is ready now, what a coincidence! We go up and it is not very clean, but the beds are clean and have new sheets, so we just dealt with it because it's getting late. There was an old string cheese, an empty drink bottle, used starbucks straws, old yogurt in the fridge, dust everywhere, old ungrounded plugs for the not plugged in lamps and it appeared as though the rooms haven't seen an update in 20+ years. Not pictured is the half paint-covered green gummy bear that fell from the ceiling shortly before we checked out. The waterpark and all other fun things, close at 6 to 7pm. What is the point of these amenities. I hate to compare anything to Great Wolf Lodge, which is a literal money pit, but it is like the Ritz Carlton compared to this place. Do not go, it's worse than any other Hilton property I've ever visited. I called Hilton directly because I felt so strongly about this place and regretted not having the time to tell them in person. I was on hold for 30 minutes after the customer service desk sent me to the property's manager. They didn't pick up.

I paid $100 to stay here & could have stayed somewhere much nicer for the same amount. My pictures say it all...cracked walls/ceilings, mold on bathroom fixtures and air conditioner vents, and broken furniture. There's people that reside here on a month to month basis that are creepy, dirty, & stare down the customers. The room also smelled like must/mold. The ONLY ok thing about this room, was the fact that the door locked. The new owners are also very RUDE! Extremely poor customer service! I'd rather stay in my car than stay here again.

The room was a nice size, and we appreciated the medium sized refrigerator. The breakfast was good and had a better selection than average. One of the washing machines and one of the elevators were down during our stay. Our only other issue is that the hotel is not convenient to reach from the road. That is outside of the staff's control.

Courtesy is appreciated, but at this point, even basic competence would be welcome. If you need a safe place to sleep, access to federally mandated accommodations such as ADA-accessible parking, or a clean room serviced according to the schedule promised at check-in, I recommend staying elsewhere. We are currently staying at this hotel, and the experience has been outrageous. During an unnecessarily long check-in process, we specifically requested daily housekeeping and were assured that our room would be serviced each day as long as the Do Not Disturb sign was not displayed. Nevertheless, our room was not cleaned. We were left with all of our trash and dirty towels, and it appears that the hotel does not provide the housekeeping service it promised. At 4:00 a.m., a stranger was loudly banging on guests' doors. When we raised this safety concern with the hotel, staff claimed they had no control over the situation. They similarly claimed to have no control over delivery drivers who routinely park illegally and block multiple vacant accessible parking spaces. To complete the experience, staff also gave us the wrong Wi-Fi password at check-in. This stay has been a testament to incompetence and poor management from beginning to end--and we are only on Day 2 of a six-day stay. I have had better experiences renting rooms through Airbnb while sharing both a wall and a bathroom with the homeowner.

"Sweet things from Boston So young and willing…read moreShe thinks I'm crazy But I'm just growin' old" (Steely Dan) Our first impression of the hotel was far from stellar. We arrived before noon and were hopeful our room was available, which it wasn't. We figured we'd use the hotel for a pit stop, sit in the lobby to plan a day trip to Marblehead, and then check in later in the day. After my wife asked the registration desk for directions to, and then visited the ladies room, she told the desk that the restroom was out of paper, and the clerk said "oh yeah, I know." Wow... would it have been too much to mention that before she went in? So after that bit of uncomfortableness, we sat down at a table near the coffee machine and saw most of the tables needed a good cleaning--there were straw wrappers and spilled sugar everywhere. After we did find a clean table, we did see maintenance come over and start working on the tables. Our room was fine- big enough to relax in with a couch, a comfy bed, a nice work desk and a totally adequate bath and shower. On the minus side, the walls are thin, so you might hear your neighbors, and you might hear the traffic roaring by on Route One, which pretty much abuts the hotel property. The included breakfast was very good with a nice assortment of the usual hot and cold items. No complaints about breakfast. Parking is free and there are plenty of spots available. So all in all, once we checked in we had a decent stay here with no further complaints. PRO TIPS 1 - We entered the hotel property from the left lane of Route One on a pretty sharp approach, so be diligent and be careful if that is the way you're getting there. 2 - There is a fantastic Italian restaurant (Marco's) within a few hundred feet at 47 Newbury Street

They're doing renovations on the entire building, and the only acknowledgement to guests is a little card in the room saying "BIG NEWS! Make sure to always bring your room key card for swipe access. Free breakfast in the hotel lobby that starts 6:30 AM on weekdays and 7 AM on weekends. No EV charging available, but free overnight parking. Appearances wise, the rooms are slightly newer/nicer than the Hampton inn next door. In reality, you can see how dated this hotel is: the corner pipe paint is peeling off, slow toilet flush, tub is updated, etc. I talked to the hotel and they do a refresh every 8-9 years. I think this hotel has been around for 30 years and it is the oldest hotel amongst the three: Hampton inn, homewood suites, and springhill suites. Breakfast selection changes on a daily basis, but it is essentially the same as the Hampton Inn next door. I wonder if they run the same menu on a daily basis with slight variation. Public bathroom is also located on the first floor if you need to use it. Nice lobby area. If you need anything like extra towels or trash bag, you have to go downstairs and ask from the receptionist. I don't think they have enough staff to send stuff to your room. Love the fact that the room has pots, pans, plates, utensils, dishwasher, etc for convenient kitchen needs.
