Four stars for a solid hotel in the Peabody area. Make sure when you enter the address, enter the full address! It might take you to Newbury street in Boston, instead of Peabody! The hotel room is slightly outdated, but clean and spacious for the greater Boston area. The highlight is indeed its free breakfast. Weekdays start at 6:30 AM and weekends start at 7 AM. Come here early for breakfast! They do have a free hot tea/water/coffee station towards the back of the lobby 24/7. They also have two free EV charging stations in the back. The hotel staff member unfortunately doesn't have much knowledge how it works. When you drive over to this area, this hotel is the first one before you can loop around to get to the other two nearby hotels. If you meeting friends here, make sure to double check if it's Hampton inn, homewood suites, or springhill suites! Don't end up in the wrong hotel! Free overnight parking.

A really comfortable stay! I really can't think of anything that could have been better. Yes-the location makes the hotel a bit difficult to access but that's minor. Once on the lot, we were able to park easily (free parking). Check in was pleasant and the staff member who checked us in provided us with some complimentary bottled water for the room which we really appreciated! The room was clean and spacious enough. The bathroom well stocked with amenities and the tv had enough channels to keep us entertained after a long day. We didn't get a chance to use the pool and gym but both areas looked well kept. The highlight here is definitely the free breakfast which is a step above most hotel breakfasts. There were veggie omelettes, potatoes, breakfast meats, cereal and oatmeal, pastries in additional to bagels and breads, and the standard waffle maker featuring chocolate batter. We really enjoyed our stay here and would be happy to stay again when visiting Boston/Salem in the future.

I only stayed here for a night, but check-in/out was smooth, the room was good, and breakfast had a good variety and availability.

    Mold below window/ac unit.

We spent 4 days here. It seemed okay at first. Thankfully we were not at the hotel much because we were out exploring. The first morning I was in the middle of my shower and went to use the shampoo, but it was completely empty so I had to stop my shower to track down shampoo. The exhaust fan in the bathroom didn't work, so the room was humid after every shower. House keeping was supposed to come every other day, but didn't. We inquired at the front desk & apparently housekeeping skipped several rooms. On our final day, we were checking the room to make sure we weren't leaving anything behind and found mold under the window/ac unit. I thought we were stuffy from allergies but now I know we weren't feeling well due to mold. We choose Hilton properties for consistency during travel and this property was a huge disappointment!

This hotel is extremely difficult to get to, especially at night where you don't know where you are going, and miss the small entrance to the weird looking street and then have to go all the way around the block, which is about 10 miles or so out of the way, to get back to the small entrance to the street to try again and hopefully not pass it. That's why I took a star off. Location is everything and this wasn't great. Also, we were so tired and didn't feel like taking a long drive to loop around and get back to the hotel that we skipped dinner and opted to eat Cheetos in the hotel room. The hotel room was clean. This location served breakfast in a box. The manager gave us coffee and bottles of water, and the boxes, which contained a hard boiled egg, an Udi's gluten free bagel (YESSSSS!!!), cream cheese, a yogurt, and I grabbed an orange from the bowl that was out. I wish they would have asked what you wanted because I wasted the yogurt. My mom couldn't eat two yogurts. It wasn't a bad breakfast, it just wasn't a great breakfast, but because of COVID it was understandable. Also, it was so weird traveling from Hampton Inn to Hampton Inn and each one had different serving guidelines and rules. Granted they were in different states, but still weird. The manager in the morning was extremely friendly and made conversation. You could tell that he really likes his job and it showed in his demeanor and warmth. He was the shining star of this location.

Dryer vent being used as exhaust vent with a facecloth jammed inside of it

Poorly maintained, filthy bathrooms , parking fee that is NOT mentioned on the Hilton website, watered down juices at breakfast . Definitely not worth the stay and such a shame for being a Hilton Property. Poorly managed with unfriendly daytime front desk staff

Came out to the area for two nights for work. Highlights came in the form of breakfast and the pool. My room in the other hand now much of a high light. More so the bathroom being the issue. Hair left on the wall in the shower. The water filled up in the tub while taking a shower and had very poor drainage. Left a note for the cleaning people rather than bug the front desk about it. Second night they did a much better job cleaning but the drainage was still an issue. Left some water in the tub before checkout so they could see for themselves and notified the front desk when I checked out. Also forgot about one of the towels having some missing fabric from it. You would think laundry would use better judgment when folding and just toss it out. Everything else about the room was good, clean sheets, comfy bed. Thank you work for putting me here for two nights.

They're doing renovations on the entire building, and the only acknowledgement to guests is a little card in the room saying "BIG NEWS! That was sarcasm in case you didn't clock it. Sorry for a poor press, but I know you can do better! Please try harder!

Make sure to always bring your room key card for swipe access. Free breakfast in the hotel lobby that starts 6:30 AM on weekdays and 7 AM on weekends. No EV charging available, but free overnight parking. Appearances wise, the rooms are slightly newer/nicer than the Hampton inn next door. In reality, you can see how dated this hotel is: the corner pipe paint is peeling off, slow toilet flush, tub is updated, etc. I talked to the hotel and they do a refresh every 8-9 years. I think this hotel has been around for 30 years and it is the oldest hotel amongst the three: Hampton inn, homewood suites, and springhill suites. Breakfast selection changes on a daily basis, but it is essentially the same as the Hampton Inn next door. I wonder if they run the same menu on a daily basis with slight variation. Public bathroom is also located on the first floor if you need to use it. Nice lobby area. If you need anything like extra towels or trash bag, you have to go downstairs and ask from the receptionist. I don't think they have enough staff to send stuff to your room. Love the fact that the room has pots, pans, plates, utensils, dishwasher, etc for convenient kitchen needs.

When I was looking for venues, I wanted all inclusive and one location. I spoke with Christine Madigan via email and then over the phone. She assured me that the Hawthorne did weddings well. We booked, signed contracts, set up a room block and everything. The room block: 3/5 stars I originally worked with Beth who set everything up for me and then was transferred to Rob as positions changed. I initially had 15 rooms in my block which we filled pretty quickly, but I saved one for my husbands grandmother so she could stay onsite. She called to book a room and was told there were no rooms. There were rooms so I called and spoke with Rob because she was pretty upset. He assured me we had rooms and for grandma to call him directly. Evidently the folks at the front desk didn't understand how the room block was intended to work. This happened over and over and over again. I really wish they would have set it up so my guests could book online because I heard from nearly half of my guests that either they couldn't get the days we were promised or the room type they wanted. I even had 3 couples stay at another hotel because of this so Hawthorne lost out on money because they couldn't get their booking system organized. One of my couples ended up in a room with a TWIN BED for 2 people. How is that even possible? Meanwhile I had a single person in a room with 2 queen beds and 2 bathrooms? Like I get accommodating people's requests, but a little critical thinking and communication would have gone a long way for comfort here. I doubt those people will come back to this hotel for this reason, which is sad because its such a lovely place. The menu tasting: 5/5 stars We were invited to a tasting of hors d'oeuvres, dinner selections, wine, cocktails and wedding cake. It was amazing to be able to sample items we wanted to serve without doing so blindly. Their food is phenomenal so we were excited to be able to share this with our guests. Wedding planning: 5/5 stars I received packets of information before booking Hawthorne as my venue, so I was aware of the pricing up front. I was even able to create a quote using their pricing sheet so nothing was a surprise. Christine was available to answer all of my questions throughout the process. As we got closer, she gave us homework to complete so we were ready for our big day. We created a signature mocktail, filled out place cards, went over our timeline, dropped off welcome bags, etc. Everything leading up to our wedding day (outside of booking guest rooms) was super smooth and easy. Pretty much everything was provided by the venue. I only had to book a photographer, content creator, photo booth, DJ and HMU on my own. The rest was handled for me which really made things so much smoother. We ended up well under budget, too! Wedding day: 3.5/5 stars If I could go back, I would hire a dedicated day of coordinator who worked specifically for me and not the venue. Christine was great, and did her job well, but she wasn't dedicated to me the entirety of the evening. And she and my mom were butting heads over things we were promised and not delivered. My mom did my wedding florals. We asked in advance if we could have refrigerator space and a private room to set up in. We were told we could have both, and on the day of, there was magically no fridge space, access to water, or a secure room to work in. It was extremely frustrating to be promised things and then not have those promises fulfilled. We were able to pivot and adapt, but that added so much stress to me on a day where I should not have added stress. The room she was working in was also being used as storage for a wedding the following weekend. The hotel has tons of space so I'm not sure why it had to be there but it seemed at that point it was a battle of wills more than anything. My photo booth company arrived right at the time we were about to start our ceremony, which was planned in advance, but the way the rooms were set up he ended up being in the lobby. This turned out to be really fun for wedding guests and random hotel guests to watch, but it was a bit awkward at first. Some of the items we brought for our reception were not brought down and we had to track people down to retrieve those. There was a room upstairs that was dedicated for us to hide away in and eat our appetizers, but I wanted to be with my guests and the appetizers never made it to me and my husband so I was told they were good but I didn't get to try them all. Dinner was absolutely amazing. However, I heard SO MANY complaints afterward about our bartender. I guess he was rude, and terrible at making drinks and when people tried to go to the other bar they got turned away. Overall I had the best day ever and would do it over again with a few tweaks :)

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Hawthorne Hotel for a short staycation. We live nearby…read moreand chose the hotel specifically for its history, haunted reputation, and because the price point included what we were told would be complimentary breakfast. The room itself was nice and comfortable, and we were surprised (in a good way) to find that it was a double room. In terms of the "haunted" experience, we did hear some tapping noises coming from the closet shortly after settling in. It was definitely spooky, and my boyfriend barely slept, hoping it would happen again--but it didn't. Still, it added to the atmosphere we were looking for. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn the next morning. When we went down for breakfast, we were informed that we needed a voucher or token that we were never given. I went back to the room to call the front desk for clarification and was told that breakfast was only included if you were given a "certificate," which was never explained at booking. My boyfriend then went to speak to the front desk himself, since he made the reservation (even though I was present when it was booked). He was told that no one ever told him breakfast was included, and the interaction felt accusatory--as though he was being accused of lying. This was uncomfortable and disappointing, especially since we booked the stay based on that information. Adding to that discomfort, as we exited the elevator to head to breakfast, we could hear two front desk staff members chatting enthusiastically. When they noticed us, the conversation abruptly stopped, and they stared as we walked by. It created an awkward and unwelcoming feeling. One was a gentleman with longer hair, and the other was a woman with her hair pulled back in a ponytail. The manager was also involved in the conversation with my boyfriend. I do want to highlight the positives: The server at Nathaniel's was extremely kind and pleasant, and another woman working in the restaurant was also warm and helpful. The room itself was nice, and the restaurant service was genuinely the best part of our stay. That said, due to the front desk and management experience, this is not a hotel we would choose to stay at again--neither for the haunted experience nor for the treatment we received. Salem has many hotel options, and while we wanted this stay to be something special, it fell short. We were hoping to leave a glowing review, but aside from the room and restaurant staff, the overall experience left us disappointed.

The biggest issue: the hotel hosted a large, ticketed public event that completely took over the main lobby--with zero advance notice to guests. I woke up to a lobby packed with strangers and nowhere to sit or gather with my family. I've never stayed at a hotel that allows a public event to fully overrun its only common area without warning paying guests. And no, "just go somewhere else" isn't an option--there is nowhere else. There are no additional common spaces and no elevator. Since we were meeting elderly family members, climbing three to four flights of stairs to our room wasn't possible. The lobby being unusable wasn't a minor inconvenience; it was a dealbreaker. Operationally, things only went downhill. Check-in is at 4pm, but arrive after 5pm and there's no one on-site to check you in. Checkout, however, is rigidly 11am. Our room was never cleaned during the stay, despite leaving the "please clean" tag on the door. Because of the limited staffing hours, we couldn't even get fresh towels. Then there's the mouse. I saw one in the common area and notified staff. Nothing was done. Food is left out uncovered for guests, which I promptly avoided--because "boutique hotel meets rodent buffet" isn't really my vibe. What's also new: some sort of train or underground rumbling that shakes the building roughly every hour, offering a front-row seat to what feels like an earthquake simulator. If this were a budget motel or a Holiday Inn, I might shrug and move on. But this is a $500-per-night hotel, and at that price point, these issues are unacceptable. Until these problems are addressed, I wouldn't recommend staying here--and I certainly won't be returning.

Wedding Venue Review: We saw so many venues at the start of planning and the Beauport was the only one that made a lasting impression. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to host our wedding there. It was so stunning, beautiful and perfect. We were truly proud to invite our friends and family to such a breathtaking place. The food was absolutely to die for, the waitstaff and hotel staff were so sweet, and our coordinator Jacey was attentive in the months leading up to our event. We did have some critiques. The communication with our coordinator was not 100% on the day of our wedding. There were small things here and there, but the biggest one was that a row was meant to be reserved for our bridesmaids, groomsmen and flower girl, but it was not so they ended up having to stand up with us. We discussed this many times during planning, and emphasized the importance of only having our man of honor and our best man standing up with us. There was no apology for this pretty considerable error until I brought it up myself a week after the wedding. The other critique was that my parents were in city facing rooms and had a very hard time sleeping due to excessive noise from the street. Other people in the room block had much better rooms which we felt should have been given to our parents. Other than that, everything was amazing. It was truly so special and we will never ever forget it. We couldn't be more grateful to have had the most perfect sunny day on the water in Gloucester, a place that has been special to my heart since I was a kid. Thank you Beauport Hotel! We will never ever forget our wedding day.
