Megan was so kind to me along with Charlotte and all the young ladies when I arrived after getting air sick on a flight from SLC to Logan. The manager saw I was in bad shape and changed my 3rd floor room to a suite on the 2nd floor. They brought me an ice tea but it wasn't about to stay down. They helped me to my room and made sure I was going to get better. I returned this evening to thank them and Megan brought me a light meal in the lobby because the restaurant was booked solid. She even got me giant chocolate chip cookies because I have to get on a flight to Dublin then on to Berlin. The hotel suite was immaculate and the shower was wonderful. They do not have an elevator but the stairs are manageable with a quad cane and the railing. The locals pack the restaurant so make sure you get a dinner reservation. Check out is automatic. Each room has a combination so don't lose it Lovely beach area. Everything was wonderful but the staff were truly the kindest most compassionate people I've ever met read more

Unprofessional, Unaccountable Ownership & Poor Customer Service - Avoid This Business I tend to avoid leaving negative business reviews, but an experience this poor makes it difficult not too. After staying one night here and parking a vehicle during a trip, we returned to a nightmare--keys were nowhere to be found, no one was there who could assist, there was no record-keeping to refer to, and the employee present didn't have the phone numbers for the owner or any other employee that might help. We were stuck for almost 2hrs hours (having to find emergency pickup for young kids at home in Maine), and told "likely no one else would be around until 4pm, and we could come back". This was 8AM so we're talking 8 HOURS. From inside the hotel-restaurant, we did everything--sent emails, contacted booking platforms, Instagram, LinkedIn and finally the WINTHROP TOWN OFFICE to get ahold of a phone number for owner Casey Goll, who inherited the business. It turned out he was onsite, ASLEEP UPSTAIRS all along, and the employee working was too afraid or not trained to mention that or go get Casey, despite the urgency of the situation after 2hrs. Once we got his number, Casey took his time coming downstairs and was unapologetic and blasé ("Well, what? You have the keys now don't you? What else do you want?"). That upset my partner enough to raise her voice--owner's response was "Woah, you might want to check your tone right now." I wrote requesting a refund for the night's stay, offering ownership an opportunity to make this situation right, rather than publicly sharing what we experienced. Response? The owner accused us of "making a threat", noting that we weren't charged for parking (which was either $5/night as I was quoted on the phone before booking, or $15/night as I was told upon arrival, or $10/night that I was told at checkout. Who knows?). No apologies, no accountability. Screenshots attached. Our "water view" room had a view of a small slice of ocean in between two buildings across the street. The AC was noisy, the bed uncomfortable, and we had to lug our bags upstairs due to the lack of an elevator. There are cheaper, nicer chain hotels about a mile away. read more

The room was very clean and large. The Hotel is beautiful with all old wood. The staff has excellent customer service and makes you feel like family. The restaurant on the main floor is a definite bonus. Their food is phenomenal!! I stayed here before and after my cruise. This will definitely be a go to hotel any time I come to the Boston area! Very disappointing hotel. We paid about $250 for the night there was no elevator and we were on the 3rd floor. I guess if you don't have luggage, then it's no big deal. However we had a 47 lb bag and a 26 lb bag since we were living out of our suitcases for a week. The other issue is that they had exposed wires throughout the hallway of the 3rd floor (pictures attached) and peeling paint. The bathroom was very nice (large shower only) however there was a piece of a bloody scab left on the bathrrom floor. At first glance, it looked like a bed bug (photo attached), but we did a thorough search of the premises, no bugs. Final issue was the heating system. They had circulating fans/heaters, but unfortunately no heat was emitted from these machines, only cold air. I suggested we call down to make sure we were doing it properly, but there wasn't a phone in the bedroom. At that momebt I was too cold to go check the living room and then I forgot. I suggested that we just call down with our cell phones, but the confirmation paper was in the car and by then MacGyver created warmth by using a hair dryer. On a positive time, there was an ocean view as promised. Also MacGyver went down for dinner and enjoyed her meal. Here's What I Think...I will never go back to this place, nor would I recommend it to anyone. read more

If booking thru booking.com..make sure what you are selecting for a room is correct before completing transaction..or call hotel. We booked a room with two beds and couch..but we got a queen with couch. They were booked and couldn't change our room. Otherwise stay was good. Nice to walk along the beach. We are in our room as I speak. Today is 08/28/2020. We are in room #208. My first thought was, It was out dated, But actually, I must say, I do Love it here. the two rooms are very spacious and It's Clean, Friendly and the staff is unbelievably helpful. The Food here, Great!!, Service, Excellent, Drinks, (cocktails.) Great and the bill for dinner and drinks was very reasonable. Would I stay here again? In a New York Minute. The ocean is a very small walk away. Great neighborhood and Quiet. There is no elevator but, It's really not a big deal at all. For me and my friend, It felt like we were coming home. We also booked a room for our son, and our daughter & her husband had a room. My husband and I booked the only "Oceanfront Suite " they had. Room 305. We booked last October of 2022 through the hotels website. In February as I looked at my bank statement I saw a full charge of our room. When I contacted the hotel I was given some excuse about changing booking services. After a day the proprietor finally returned our call and our funds. 3 weeks before we were to arrive I received a phone call that we were to pay our balance of both rooms or we were in danger of loosing them. Again I called the proprietor and after a day he returned my call stating the same reason as before "that they had a new booking system ". At this point, finding new accommodations was impossible, as it was peak tourist season here in New England. A week before we were to arrive, again our card was charged. It took 2 days for the proprietor to return our calls, as my husband called also. He stated they were a small hotel and couldn't risk losing a booking. After much back and forth and quoting our contract that stated balance due on arrival we finally decided to pay it as we were afraid they would cancel our reservations. Upon arrival October 6, 2023 we were met by the proprietor. He brought us up to our room. Upon entering the first thing greeting you is the stained carpet, filthy easy chair and couch. We booked a suite with a "fully equipped state of the art" kitchenette. There was none. It was a bare wall with an instant coffee maker on a small table. Our "spa like bathroom " was so tiny, we would have been okay with that if it were not for the fact that the towel bar was ripped off wall, the shower attachment didn't work and the gasket at the bottom on shower was ripped so the water came out. Our tv in our bedroom did not work. We had no lightbulbs in a lamp, no screen in one of the windows in the bedroom. The ac unit was held in by duct tape, so we did not use it. I will say the bed was clean and comfortable. We received 5 towels at the beginning of our stay and that was it. Our room was never cleaned. That evening before our dinner I tried to have a conversation with the proprietor. He was immediately defensive and I must say a bit aggressive. I told him about the condition of the room. He said the tv issue was not their fault and we should log into Netflix or Amazon. After much back and forth about the condition of the room and lack of kitchen, I was told, and I quote "were you really going to cook Elaine". He said what do you want me to do. I said we would like our room comped. It's not what we paid for. He replied with he was busy and would do later. When 11 of us came down to dinner he told me it was taken care of. We never saw him again. Our credit card has been charged the full 3 nights. Nothing was ever fixed nor were we compensated. We have reached out to the proprietor to give him one more chance to make things right with no reply. This was supposed to be a joyous weekend for us in what we thought would be a lovely little Inn type hotel. It has caused so much stress and anxiety. So no, we can never recommend the Winthrop Arms to anyone. My husband has traveled the world, stayed in every type of accommodations, this was one of the worst. read more

Went there for just a night, I got a call the night before to check what time we would be in so someone could be available. When we arrived we were greeted with an empty bar and had no idea where to check in we ended up waiting for almost 20 minutes for someone to greet us. When someone finally came to the desk (which looks like a hostess desk) we where giving all the paper work and then our keys to the room. The parking situation was definitely interesting the lot is not near the hotel but was labeled. We went up to our room and it was nice but not what I was expecting due to the picture online but it was definitely clean. Staff was really nice even after we arrived late into the night. Upon you check out you leave your key unattended right back on the hostess desk. Overall not to a bad stay read more

Food in restaurant was very good. We stayed in hotel for 4 nights. The rooms (we had two) were clean but sketchy. Air conditioner was dirty. Seems like part of the hotel might be a boarding house...there were slots for people's mail at the top of the stairs. We were NOT happy that our 4 nights were charged to our credit card prior to arrival. We had wanted to use a different credit card. Also, check in was supposed to be at 3pm....however no one was at the desk until 4pm. At $240.00 a night I expected a better room. Housekeeping was hit or miss. read more

We live on Cape Cod, about 1 to 2 hours to Logan Airport. My wife was flying to Atlanta early. Snowstorm predicted for overnight and morning. Decided to go to Boston to stay overnight, making it easier to get to airport on time. Found The Winthrop Arms Hotel, 10 minutes from Logan. Best decision I've made in a while. Quaint 10 room hotel on the water in Winthrop. Rooms and bathrooms clean and comfortable. Also happens to have a great little restaurant and bar on the main floor. My wife likes to go to Atlanta to visit her daughter and grandson which usually means an early flight. I'll never get up at 4 am to make a 8 am flight again. You'll find me at the Winthrop Arms Restaurant and Hotel! read more

Winthrop Arms Hotel My favorite thing about this hotel was the staff. They couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The gentleman that checked us in took our heavy luggage up to our second floor room for us and would not accept a tip. The room was clean and comfortable with all the necessary amenities. I booked this through trip advisor. For some reason, when I saw the photo of it, I was thinking this was just a little motel like place and I was happy with just having a reasonable place to stay. But, when I arrived, the charm of this place struck me! I was in love and really thought to myself that their picture didn't do it justice. Then I met the folks running this place. Everyone here is like family. From our waitress at the restaurant who has worked here 33 years, the hotel manager/ bartender, the owner, the son....the list goes on with the fabulous people. Now, we have to leave and I feel like we are leaving a little piece of us in Winthrop. WAY exceeded my expectations. read more

The building is beautiful. The food, the bar at top notch. The rooms are in need of attention. The bedding, pillow shams and bedspreads need to be cleaned and/or replaced. The rooms also need disposable cups in the bathrooms, spoons need to be put in the rooms so we have something to stir our coffee with. Somewhere it needs to be noted that the creamer is in the refrigerator. Room cleaning..they are clean but we stayed 2 days. After the first night, maids came in, made our bed, took used towels and left fresh but the floors weren't vacuumed, I had placed a wash cloth on on top of fridge from the coffee spilling..that was left (not moved) there with my used coffee cup on top of it along with the used coffee cup on the side table of the room and the used cups are what we used the next morning. I think the broken towel bar screws/anchors in the bathroom should removed and the bathroom light goes in and out when you flip the switch on (switch needs to be replaced). The carpet on the second floor hallway needs to be replaced..old is ok it's old, tattered and it's what is leading the guests to their rooms. It needs to be noted that there is NO Elevator and NO ONE to assist with luggage. The young man they have there on Friday and Saturday night..while we struggled (me) to get a heavy piece of luggage up was kind enough to open the door. All to find when we got in to see two more flights of stairs to get to the room. Hotel is left unattended. We arrived second time approx 10:30 am the places was EMPTY, front door unlocked and no one around. Delivery man calling someone. I believe it was David that showed up told me we could leave our luggage but it's weird how the hotel (front desk) is left unattended and the front doors are just left unlocked, while their guests are upstairs. Same thing Friday, we came down 10:30 -11:00 am front doors unlocked, bread delivery left there NO ONE IS AROUND, doors unlocked. Unsafe for guests. I think it's a beautiful place it is in need of some love and attention. We stayed two different occasions, all the same trip, Friday to Saturday and then Thursday to Saturday. Last note, which from the reviews, seems the consensus, the food was incredible and the little waitress(didn't get her name) is a little spit fire and a great asset to the establishment. Casey and David do send an email after your stay I sent this all in writing to them but never received a response. So now, I believe it needs to be put in a review. read more

4.5 Star review Stayed at the Hotel for 7 nights in the off season and ate at the restaurant once. The hotel certainly feels like a family run affair, the staff really are the sweetest most helpful people. The first night was during a March nor'easter so the kitchen wasn't open. Some of the staff that stayed fired up the ovens and gave everyone free chicken pot pies and baked macaroni's while they and all the guests hung out in the lobby. The restaurant was pretty standard American faire with an eye toward some older customers. Both of our entrees were well cooked and the portions were certainly more than enough for the money. We were lucky and got upgraded to a five room suite for the week because of the storm so we were very happy. The only real downside I can give the hotel is the hallways were "under renovation" as well as some of the tiles and fixtures in the rooms were certainly broken and worn in. The bathroom was clean however and the water was hot. This hotel is certainly ran with love (maybe a bit minimal staffing in the off season) But the staff certainly cares. Breakfast was a joke. Coffee creamer and even a mug was difficult to track down. Wi-Fi was a hot mess. Unable to access to manage travel and small business. Connection was so poor, I reached out to management they ghosted me. Room lacked water. We had to buy our own bottled water and purchase cups, never saw an ice bucket. When we went to diner it was evident that hotel guest were not valued we were asked to move tables for locals to sit at the bar. Lastly the made us feel liIke an inconvenience when we checked in after 8 hours of travel. Web site describes amenities that didn't exist, false services and no existent check in process. i'm not sure which member of my party came up with the idea of going to the Winthrop Arms for New Year's Eve. We knew that this plan was going to be wildly different than the usual plan of finding a bar and riding it out there. When we walked in, though, it wasn't just low-key, it was low-key and septuagenarian, and, it being 9pm, all but winding down. But they assured us they were open, and things got better there. This place is a townie restaurant in the best sense of the word. Which means that all those old folks all knew each other, and that within minutes, our salty (again, meant as a compliment) waitress was holding court on everything from parking strategies in the city to boyfriends and girlfriends. We were fast friends. As for everything else, it's pretty old-school meat-and-veggies, comes-with-a-salad kind of stuff, and yummy at that. Giant plates of chicken and beef and potatoes and veggies. The lemon chicken i had was very tasty; like my mom would make, if you'll forgive the expression. A worthy place for a comfy meal if you're on that side of the harbor. read more

Woah, delicious. Winthrop arms is a Hotel and Restaurant...it is very comfortable environment and i hope to come here for drinks one time. Dinner was great, i had baked fish and with it came 2 sides. I had the lentil soup for one side and it was really good, def homemade and these amazing honey glazed brussel sprouts. They also give you a basket of crackers with this really nice pub cheese spread and bread with butter which was even very good. I eat a lot, and I recommend you come here when you are hungry, they do serve it up and its totally awesome. Also, you would think they are expensive, but theyre not at all, even the wine is pretty cheap. I am glad I finally made it here as I will be back often yay! read more

This is a classy establishment. I've been coming here for years (it's in my neighborhood.) They boast comfort food, delicious comfort food, and I have fond memories of not being able to fit into my prom dress because I devoured a chicken pot pie the night before. Things I Didn't Know I Loved: The soulful chicken pot pie. The roast turkey. The huge portions. The new MARTINI list (we're getting fancy up in here) $6.50 for each!!! Whenever you order a drink, they load you up on free cheese&crackers. TWO SIDE DISHES. Bread hot from the oven. The kind, nurturing service. The oak, the stained glass, the low-lighting. Great little hotel. I stayed here on a Thursday and a Friday night in November because I couldn't afford the Airport Hilton at Logan, where I was attending a conference. Though I had some trepidation about getting to my conference on time (despite the short distance as the crow flies to Logan, you do have to ride three forms of public transportation to get there from Winthrop), turns out the Winthrop Arms was worth it. My favorite hotel that I've paid for out of my own pocket. The foyer/lobby area is cozy and somewhat lush with dark colors, like a 19th-century drawing room. The room was clean and comfortably decorated, not at all like most cookie-cutter hotel rooms...it was almost as if you were staying in someone's guest room. (The feeling is probably intentional...the hotel has a handful of rooms, fewer than 10, I believe, and there's a personal touch to everything.) I needed a quiet place to work, and with one exception I got it. (The first night, there was obviously a party in the room next door, with loud talking and singing--"God bless America," of all things, was on the repertoire. But the partyers quieted down by 10:30 or so, and the next night was silent.) The even-numbered rooms are oceanside. It was amazing to wake up at dawn with a bright band of orange sun touching up against the blue sea. Sure, the sun is 93,000,000 miles away, but from the window of the Winthrop Arms it looked like it was across the street. It's not the most luxurious place, but it's clean and well-appointed and seems to be in a safe neighborhood (next to the ocean!). I'll stay there again next time I'm in Boston. read more

Yeah these were two of the worst experiences I have ever had. First of all the place smelled like an antique shop, Both times I caught the waitress shooting the breeze with the barkeep while me and my party sat with empty cups and glasses. One member of my party was quoted as to saying this was level 0 service. The food here was uninspired and not restaurant quality. its like going over to your grandmother's house , have her cook flavorless matter for you and then charge you for it. and I am not exaggerating either. I ordered the filet mignon and wanted it medium rare. it came out burnt more than Darth Vader at the end of the Mustafar scene in Star Wars. Medium rare shouldn't have a grey middle and an outside that looks like a recently used charcoal grill. The Brunch menu is a 1 page Joke , is very unfriendly to anyone allergic to Eggs and lacks any lunch like items. might as well call it short service breakfast because brunch actually consists of the mixture of breakfast and lunch and that concept escapes these people. And for anyone wanting coffee during the brunch hours, you might as well wait in a 30 minute line at starbucks because that's how long it will take for your coffee cup to get refilled. read more

I havent stayed in the hotel so I cant speak of hotel's accomodations. The restaurant I have been to numerous times, I think I'm over due to review it. Mmmm it's always a portion larger than I can finish in one sitting for a meal. Dinner for 2 here can easily end up around $60- to $100- . The food is great the servers are always friendly. We recently stayed at the hotel, and also had dinner with our friends who came out from Cambridge. The staff for both the hotel and restaurant were very friendly and helpful. I didn't realize when I booked online the week before that I didn't complete the reservation, but when we showed up, the manager immediately helped us out and got us set up in a great room. It was large, clean and we could see the water--very nice! Our friends came out later and we decided to stay there due to the phenomenal reviews on yelp. Not one of us had a complaint about our food. I had the turkey with the mashed potatoes, and it was SO FREAKING GOOD. Our individual meals were fabulous--everybody raved and none of us were willing to share even a bite with each other. My husband had leftovers that we took to the room, and he wouldn't let me near it. Not that I cared, because I was stuffed from the turkey dinner. Did I mention how good it was? Parking is free, and navigating there and then to the airport was easy. So fantastic! I know where I am staying the next time we come to Boston! read more

We took the family here last night for an early dinner and everyone was satisfied. The warm bread was a pleasant surprise...it was so tasty. For starters we had fried ravioli and chicken fingers...both were excellent especially the ravioli, when dipped in the meat sauce! My two youngest had the pasta dish and meat sauce...they quickly devoured every bite. My oldest had her favorite...macaroni and cheese, I had tasted some and it was pretty close to my mom's homemade. My wife and I both had her favorite thing in the world...their chicken pot pie. This was definitely the best pot pie I've ever had...ver filling and loaded with chicken and veggies. I am not a guest but rather someone that uses the lobby occasionally to wait for my wife at a nearby beauty salon on a Saturday morning. The staff is very solicitous of my behavior. I am always offered a coffee and allowed to sit quietly and work. Since I am not very familiar with Winthrop, I happened to find the place one day by searching the web. The location is great, right near the waterfront, a quiet residential area. I also watch the staff take care of regular guests and they are very polite and thorough. i would highly recommend the arms as a place to go to. read more

We arrived 10 minutes past the posted checkin time. No one was at the desk. We found a housekeeper and found someone in the kitchen but they couldn't help and didn't know where anyone was. After 40 minutes in the rather warm lobby, we left a note on the desk that we'd be outside waiting on the patio. Shortly after a young man arrived. While going through the mail that had been left at the desk, he explained he was picking up his dog. He didn't offer an apology. That seemed odd. After looking quickly though the mail, he welcomed us and checked us in, offering to help with our luggage once we brought it in. (No elevators) We were back in a few minutes but once again the desk and lobby were deserted. We made two trips. Once again it seemed rather odd to offer then disappear again. Our room was quite nice, although it was an oven, just like the lobby. We quickly turned the air on. The room was clean. The couch was comfortable. There were a few bottles of water. The copy of the registration form we were given included another guest's name, reservation and payment information on the back. I guess they are conserving paper. We had planned on dining at the hotel but were concerned about service, so instead we ate dinner nearby at La Siesta. It was a great choice and we were happy to see a gluten free menu. Winthrop Arms is close to the Boston airport. The room was great. Street parking worked fine. My 3 rating is due to the service. read more

Location: Beautiful NE town about 10-15 minute cab ride to Boston Logan Airport less than a block from the beach with an ocean view. Food: Mac and cheese appetizer tasted award winning and as it turns out it was! Chicken entrees were fantastic, and the wait staff showed they genuinely wanted to serve and made us feel at home. Hotel: Charming hotel offering everything you need for a comfortable stay. Staff was a available and accommodating. Check in and check out process was simple! Side Note: we had a horrible airport layover that turned to be an overnight stay and this hotel was a life saver, and not to mention extremely military friendly. I grew up in Winthrop and visited and hosted many functions at the Arms. We decided to have my Mom's 90th surprise birthday party there. I was told there was another party finishing up but for a 3pm party the room was not ready when we arrived at 2:55pm. It was a small room next to the large party and it basically was a storage room. We had dirty glasses with lipstick on it floor was not cleaned dirty dishes and napkins piled up right next to the tables. I had pre-ordered an appetizer to have ready for when we arrived. There was none. Cheese in a plastic cup with crackers in plastic is not my idea of cheese and crackers. When I called Casey the next day to discuss this I was appalled at his response. He became very defensive and told me I needed more patience and basically he was doing me a favor. He told me that it was okay that I had a bunch of 90 somethings sitting in the lobby waiting for the room to be ready. Unacceptable!! I understand people are short staffed but do not take on work you cannot handle. He asked me what kind of answer I was looking for... All I wanted was an apology. Nothing more. Sadly I will not visit this restaurant or recommend it to anyone. read more

My sister and I went for lunch today - the waitress seemed overwhelmed although she was very accommodating and friendly. I got the chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes which was so yummy although it seemed to take forever to get to the table. My sister got the haddock florentine which she was happy with. A little turn off was the smell of Lysol in the dining room. I have been here for dinner many times and always had a great meal - the complimentary cheese and crackers while you wait for a table are a nice touch. Great cocktails, good prices, daily specials and nice ambience. read more
