This place has officially solidified itself as one of our absolute favorite pastimes in Gilbert…read more Over the years, it has become our ultimate go-to for just about every occasion--whether it's a cozy date night after dinner, a fun girls' night out, or hosting birthday parties. The price is great! In fact, we've held multiple birthday celebrations here, and it is always a massive hit with the guests! Today's visit was a special girls' day, and we brought along my 5-year-old, proving they are incredibly kid-friendly! In between smelling all the different scents, the staff sweetly gave her a coloring book to keep her entertained. We also brought along our furry friend for the first time, and the staff went above and beyond to make her feel welcome too, even giving her a dog treat! That level of genuine customer service for the whole family is exactly why we keep coming back. The process here is so fun and incredibly seamless. 1. As soon as you walk through the door, you're greeted and handed a clipboard to write down all your favorite notes. 2. You get to explore the space and smell all of their incredible candles, jotting down the scents that you like. 3. Once you're done smelling, you choose your "build-your-own" product experience. 4. The staff helps you perfectly balance and customize your signature fragrance. 5. Lastly, you get to officially name your custom creation! The fragrance library here is unmatched--there is truly a scent profile for everyone. We've experimented with a lot of their offerings, and here are our absolute standouts: Custom Scent Oils: A household staple for us. We add a few drops to our wool dryer balls, and it elevates laundry day to a luxury experience. Car Diffusers: I am completely obsessed with the one I customized. It smells so incredible that I genuinely just want to sit in my parked car and enjoy it. Body Butter: If you're looking for deep hydration, skip the lotion (which ran a little too watery for my preference) and go straight for the body butter. It is rich, luxurious, and has become a mandatory part of my nightly routine. Sugar Scrub: My girls actually got me hooked on this! Now, it's a staple in my nightly shower routine for perfectly exfoliated skin. Room & Bathroom Spray: Yes, we even customized a spray for the bathroom. It's a game-changer. Pro-Tips: Candle Timing: Just a heads-up if you decide to pour a custom candle--it takes about 2 hours to harden! If you're doing a date night, I highly recommend making your candle before dinner so it can cure while you eat, or just plan to come back another day to pick it up. Payment Perk: If you want to maximize your spend, they accept the inKind app! We always use it to pay because you get awesome cash back/bonus credit. It's an absolute no-brainer. We love this spot so much that we've practically become brand ambassadors, constantly recommending it to everyone we know. Now, our friends are bringing their friends and family, too. The team here is consistently creative, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. Huge shoutout to Mia, who helped us during today's visit--she was absolutely wonderful and guided us perfectly through our blending session. If you haven't been yet, consider this your sign to book an experience. Five stars all around!

Candle Chemistry's value proposition is over 50 scents to choose from and being able to be hands on and mixing the scents yourself. There's a scent for everyone here. When I was here, it was clear that there was a lot of disorganization. I let them know that their website is still missing products and even though they said they would tell the owner about it; nothing has changed. It was pretty hard to get consistent service as someone would come to me and then leave me in the middle of servicing me. It was very odd behavior. Then there was an employee who was just kind of standing there doing absolutely nothing while the other two ladies did all the work. I got a bunch of perfume and a bottle of car diffuser. I must say that the diffuser didn't work at all.... I had it in my car for so long and no smell came out of it so it was a completely defective product that was a complete waste of money. At least the perfume rollers work. You get 10ml for $18 and the scents aren't very strong if that's what you're looking for but they are indeed nice. I'd definitely suggest better customer service (both in-person and online) and to only sell products that actually work.

I won't give it away--you'll have to go on the tour yourself. Upon arrival, there's free parking on the premises in a designated grassy area. John was a great tour guide--nice, informative, and absolutely hilarious! There were a few places we couldn't see that I personally would've loved to explore, such as the hidden rooms behind the doors and the son's room upstairs. Due to time, those areas weren't included, which was a bit of a bummer. Overall, though, the tour was enjoyable. Since the place was built in the '80s, there aren't really any ghost stories--probably because in the '80s the only ghosts people talked about were the Ghostbusters. The property definitely needs a bit of love. The carpets need cleaning, and the whole place could use a refresh to bring back that '80s charm instead of feeling more like the '50s. I did love the artwork throughout, especially the stair rails, doors, and mural. A small on-site café or coffee spot would be amazing--there's so much potential here to elevate the experience, especially if they plan to maintain it as historic grounds. They no longer host weddings here, which is disappointing since I remember driving by years ago and seeing celebrations happening on the property. Overall, the tour is worth the price and definitely something to check out for yourself. Drink your coffee before you go! And remember: don't touch anything on the tour. It's always embarrassing when the guide has to remind everyone because of that one person who just can't follow the rules. Sheesh! Why is there always that one human?‍ The kitchen was definitely a 80s kitchen. In any case, I recommend checking it out if you're a history buff or just simply need something to do. Tours are held on the weekends in 3 sessions... check their site and get your tickets online. (Subject to change) Tell John that you heard it here! Btw... We were in town for my brother's ASU graduation, which happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. I was searching for Mother's Day activities that didn't involve food (so much of the graduation festivities were ALL about food), and I came across Light + Bark. I decided to book a candle pouring reservation for our group of seven, and was grateful they still had availability on such a busy weekend. I've done candle pouring before, and it's been more of a private experience, where we had the space to ourselves. Light + Bark has a bit different of a layout ... the candle pouring takes place right in the middle of the shop, and felt a bit crowded at times for a larger group like ours. Even still, the instructors made us feel welcome, and encouraged us as we selected our scents! They even had free mimosas for Mother's Day, which was such a thoughtful touch to make moms feel special. The scent selection is expansive, and we especially loved the desert-themed collection. We felt the pricing was fair for the experience as well ... it's $38 for a small vessel, $48 for a medium vessel, and $58 for a large vessel. We ended up getting really into the scent mixing process, and had a great time smelling everyone's final products! The candles take two hours to set, and then you can pick them up at your convenience during regular shop hours. I'd definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique way to celebrate, and you could absolutely pair your experience with brunch reservations elsewhere in Old Town.
