We've been living in the Hudson Valley for 20 plus years and have found the Mexican food up here fair at best but have higher prices than what we use to pay when we lived down in Queens!? We have passed this restaurant a couple dozen times but the name Cancun seemed a little "gringo" to give them a day in court, said the Irish American. Today we had been hiking over at Montgomery Mansion over looking the Hudson and it began to chuck it down with rain which we were kind of expecting....My wife heard good things about Cancun and decided to check it out for lunch and was surprising delighted. The staff was so attentive, right from putting my foot in the door; in these times of virus/pandemic there was an issue of having to view the menu on line vs. a hard menu, but we were having trouble getting a signal so they wiped off and sanitized a menu and a menu with lunch specials. The chips arrived homemade, fresh, hot with salsa, bean dip and gratis, from that point on they were re-stocked! My wife had pollo enchiladas and she asked if they could separate and do two sauces verde y mole they were more than happy to accommodate. I had the Oceano a burrito stuffed with shrimp, crab, white fish, fresh mushrooms... Both huge plates served up wayyyyyyy hot with and enormous sides of rice and beans. The meals were perfect, fresh, authentic and the best we have had in a long time. Again back to the aforementioned post/during virus the tables were properly spaced our waitress wore a mask and rubber gloves so if you have concerns, no worries here. BUT at the end of the day the Mexican chicken and seafood were spot on. Try, and enjoy you won't be disappointed! read more

There are 3 things that make a restaurant awesome: staff, environment and food. Cancun's does a great job on all 3. The restaurant is cheerfully decorated without being garish. The music is low enough that you can converse with your dinner companion and the place is very clean. The staff at Cancun's is friendly and attentive and you feel like everyone who works here wants you to have a great dining experience. Then there's the food. A ton of choices and all are good. Surprisingly, they also have some of the best fries I've had in a long time. Coffee was hot, fresh and delicious. I can't comment on the dessert menu, the food was so good that I didn't have room for dessert. I'll have to plan more carefully next time! read more

I have never been here before my friends always talk about it I've always heard great things I've never heard a negative comment. Had dinner at the bar with my husband. Absolutely rude female bartender. Never once smiled, didn't ask how our food was and we had to request refills after classes were empty for a long time. Only two others were seated at the bar and restaurant wasn't extremely busy. My husband ordered meat tacos and I order chicken tacos. The food came out in under two minutes which was concerning. So much grease and slop! No flavor and soggy. Ordered the fried ice cream which should've been warm outside, cool middle. That came out within seconds and was literally hard a rock. Take our advice, drive a few miles north to Sabroso. Much more warm, welcoming and fresh! Went there first but they were closed Cancun literally was horrible, gross and complete waste of money read more

I had no expectations coming to Cancun's. I was staying in nearby Elizaville for the weekend. The staff was very friendly. We received fresh tortilla chips at the table with 2 types of dip. The salsa could have been chunkier. We ordered 2 different enchilada dishes. We were happy with our meal. Plates were hot. Bill was reasonable. I would gladly return. I would like to try the nachos cause their tortilla chips could stand up to being piled on with toppings. read more

My Husband and I were looking for a place to stop after a short vacation. We couldn't be more happy with our choice.. The restaurant was clean and beautifully done in Mexican design. We felt as if We were still on vacation enjoying Cancun. The food was delicious. And the portions were enormous. The gentleman at the bar was friendly and well versed on the menu. The Cancun is a favorite of ours. The food is very good, the portions generous and prices, more than fair. Today, we had a small problem with my husband's dinner, but not til he was 90% done. The waitress took the plate and apologized. She brought the bill and the dish had been taken off. We were fine with this and had no other complaints. We paid the bill and were preparing to leave. I was hoping for more since there are so few decent Mexican options around. Pros: The staff is super friendly. Service is quick. Drinks are cold and tasty. Portions are huge. Kid friendly. Cons: The food just isn't very good. Not a single item was beyond mediocre. Even the table-side made guacamole was sub-par (over ripe, avocados, off-tasting - too many onions?). Better off going to Santa Fe in Tivoli or Bubby's Burrito stand. read more

Came here on a lark after doing some quick research on where we could get a quick, relatively inexpensive (yet tasty) meal and were blown away by this place. Food was plentiful and didn't shortchange on the drinks. The El Presidente and the spicy shrimp entree (I forget the proper name) set me up nicely for the night. If the staff could stop fooling around long enough to pay attention to the paying customers they might have got 2 stars. If the food didn't taste like everything was pre packaged and put in a microwave they might have got 2 stars. My date ordered the black bean soup and it tasted like canned black beans with warm tap water poured over top. No hot sauce on the planet could fix this disaster. 1 star is generous. read more

There's no parking lot to the restaurant, however the municipal is close. The menu here is pretty extensive. I wasn't a fan of how they covered up the drink prices. The food was good but not great. I ordered the Pacifico chimichanga. Something was lacking flavor wise. I left feeling full, but i don't think I will be back again. There's other Mexican restaurants in the Hudson valley that are much better. Cancuns gotta step up theirs game! read more

Holy guacamole! This place was a very pleasant surprise! For my birthday wknd, I chose BBQ & Mexican as my two special dinners, so Smoky Rock(awesome)and Cancun's(also awesome)were two restaurants that we'd been wanting to try for awhile. The reviews were pretty good for this place, but I think it deserves even better reviews, people! It was a snowy, crappy day when we went last week, so it was fairly empty inside. The interior is bright, colorful, and festive, and the servers were very friendly, fast, and attentive. The food was fresh, hot, and authentic, not to mention large enough for a take-home bag(score!). Chips and salsa were complimentary, guac was made fresh at the table, and the margaritas were fruity and delicious. Can't wait to go back! read more

Absolutely delicious! Came here with the girls on a whim and we were all greatly impressed. They definitely don't skimp on the portions and everything was delicious. The frozen margaritas were also great. We didn't have room for dessert, but they all sounded delicious. Hopeful next time. read more

This place threads the needle between being delicious, old-school (think of the Mexican restaurant your parents took you to in the early 1980s -- that basket of delicious chips appears seconds after you sit down and they have that fried icecream!), and authentic (the staff and most of the customers are Hispanic, and the food reminds me of actual trips to Latin America). I'm vegan, so I get the green vegetable burrito "sin queso, sin crema" but there's something for everyone, and the atmosphere is cheerful and festive, even on a cold winter night. read more

Not so good, pretty much I wish I didn't eat this food and hope to not accidentally go here again. Had a fajita (shrimp) burrito and the shrimp was very salty, the rest was meh, no cheese, and the chips were stale. My husband had a vegetarian burrito and it was worse. Rice and more rice, and beans, beans weren't good on either. No cheese there, too. Not a good experience. read more

Good selection, awesome refried beans dish that comes with salsa. My salsa was a little watered down and the food was hot, plentiful, and well cooked, just lacking something in the flavor department. It wasn't spicy, either. I did ask for hot sauce and received a hot tomatillo salsa that was amazing. I think I'll go back just for that. I really wanted to like the food here, I love the owner and the staff.....they are super duper friendly and attentive. If they would only make some changes in their food it could be a fantastic place. With that said, many locals come here and they all are on a first name, friendly basis, so they obviously love it. The chips were great and hot, not warm, hot, which I loved. The salsa had no flavor at all...not spicy, not really fresh, just blah. They also serve a refried bean dip which was okay but not fresh and exciting. I had the mole enchiladas....the mole sauce was not good, did not taste complex, actually tasted like refried beans. The margarita was okay, served in a pretty cactus cocktail glass but it was just okay. Asked for salt on the rim and hardly got any at all. I don't think I would come back. It truly saddens me to have come to the point where I no longer wish to eat at this restaurant. I really was excited when they opened and many times did my best to navigate through their menu, hoping to get one dish that was good. Initially the service was great, now it's extremely disappointing. I personally do not find their food to be the best authentic Mexican cuisine. The salsa is watery and often their chips seem overcooked. The burritos are ordinary too. I've told the manager several times in the past my opinion of the salsa, each time I've been told that's I'm the first one to say that....apparently not. Some of my friends have said the same when asked for feedback as well. Sometimes the service has been so horrendous, even when we have been one of only two tables filled throughout. Their margaritas have been good so far, guacamole has been good too, however not enough to make me return. It's such a small community in our town of Red Hook and it would be highly beneficial to this restaurant to pay attention to what patrons are telling them, that's if they want to stay in business. read more

I have eaten there several times and was not overly disappointed or pleased. But since we live nearby, we wanted to support the place. But this last time, I ordered the shredded beef taquitas and what I got was either chicken or something that just did not resemble beef. When I pointed it out the the waitress and showed her that the meat on the inside was white and not beef colored at all....she shrugged and implied I was in error in my assessment. We will not be going back. We also had a 10% off coupon but they only honored it for one dish, not the whole bill. I'm sure my chicken burrito was soggy because it was microwaved to heat it up and my husband's enchiladas were no better than the frozen stuff one buys in grocery store. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. We walk in, and there are over 10 neon beer signs flashing almost giving me a seizure. the salsa they gave us tasted like watered down gazpacho. Literal shit. To make matters, my dear friend cuts into her burrito, and finds carrots , cauliflower broccoli and mushrooms (???????). Not to mention the mystery bean dip that arrived with context . Tried this place a few weeks ago. Sorry to say it wasn't very good at all . The food was mediocre at best . Small portions the refried beans tasted like aluminum , the rice seemed like a box mix not much flavor. They had only opened a week prior so maybe that was the issue. But honestly I could get the same quality food at Taco Bell for a third of the price. read more
