I'm typically not a fan of any big chain retailers, but my experience today helped me realize that after all is said and done, it is up to the persons that make up the store. And our experience today was wonderful!
We had issues in Canmore with our windshield washer, and thought that it had been fixed at the Ford dealer in Canmore(we paid $230 for them to "wash out our reservoir of contaminants") Well, about 80 miles or so into our 900 mile drive home, in snow melt mud and grime, our windshield washer quit working! We resulted to driving closely behind semi trucks, just so we can have a consistent spray of grime to help wash away the gunk, you see, with only a light spray of gunk, it would dry on as a film that would not sweep off...
The Ford dealer in Kamloops was worthless, wanting to charge for a re-diagnosis, and without even having ANY of the parts to fix it. They had on a happy little smile, but really was telling me to bugger off, once they knew I was not going to pay $120 for a diagnosis that would have no chance of resolve.
SO, I went into the Canadian Tire around the corner, with a bad attitude and a scowl on my face. I explained my journey thus far, and apologized for my demeanor, and said my nerves were in tatters from my 9 hour drive. They said not to worry about that, we had a real dialogue based around getting me fixed up! The entire crew simply went into resolution mode, spoke to their tech for diagnostic and a couple of options (the washer pump in their system did not say it was a direct o.e.m. swap) After everything was said and done, the truck was fixed up in about 45 minutes, the tank had giant blobs of slimy muck, which ultimately burned up the pump (remember the tank I spent $230 for Canmore Ford to wash out?). The Pump ended up being a perfect replacement. The tech showed me the tank and the filter as he washed it out. Everything said and done, new pump, washed out tank, new washer fluid, and truck cleaner than when I drove it in... cost me about $110. They made my day, and realistically and reasonably may have saved my life.
