Cute hole in the wall, just not all the hype. Everyone rants and raves about the cinnamon rolls, and they are not wrong. But that's it. The service does what they can, but they seemed pretty understaffed. Drinks took a minute and the OJ came out warm, we werent able to get a refill on coffee. They dont have as many options on the menu as it seems and the green chili is not much to write home about. Their prices haven't changed and cent but you get what you pay for, the portions are on the smaller side. All I have to say is wow! This place is absolutely amazing. I'm gonna start off with the restaurant itself. It's a very old back in the past style café where all the locals go the price of everything is unbelievably great. You can go with a family of four and get away with less than $60 spent on your breakfast which if you go to IHOP it's ridiculously priced the food itself had amazing flavor and was warm fresh and came out fast service they prioritize the locals before the new people other than that amazing place. read more

This is a fantastic local old time coffee shop. We went for breakfast but lunch is something I'd investigate. Biscuits & Gravy was excellent and you just can't say that everywhere. Thanks Yelp for guiding me here. Campus Cafe is a local gem, a real treasure find for breakfast. Clearly it is well loved by the locals and fills up quickly with people wanting a great meal. Bacon, eggs, hashbrowns were cooked to order and perfectly satisfying. Our server was prompt, friendly and clearly knew people and how to do her job. Fresh brewed coffee was delicious. No improvements needed. ...and what's more the prices seemed surprisingly low -- or maybe I should say a really good value. Spent a week in Alamosa and this was hands down the best restaurant. The place is small and hidden away but it was packed everytime we went. Food was ridiculously inexpensive. They don't seat you, so be prepared to sit with strangers and make new friends. Our party had chile and eggs, biscuits and gravy (Half order) and crepes. We split the sweet roll. The sweet roll is a must have, but is fairly hidden on the menu. It was too large even for our group of 3 to finish. Wish the hours were longer as we would have had more meals here. read more

20 years ago Campus Cafe served the best plate of biscuits and gravy in the nation. Mentioned in a book even. Now they are standard IHOP, Denny's, Village Inn ick. Unimpressed all around with the whole meal from the rubbery side of bacon to the buttery centric cinnamon roll to the French toast. However I like supporting local businesses. It has been a standard in town for years and provided food to college students galore. They support the college and high school sports. Glad they are still in business. Try it. Lousy experience, sad to say. As the saying goes you get what you pay for and that's true here. Prices are pretty low, but the food was bland and portions not that amazing. Service wasn't too bad, but I did go at a non-peak time so the staff were not too overwhelmed. To start off, this is ostensibly a traditional breakfast place. I ordered a coffee when I arrived and what I got was darkened water. I don't know how they do it but they have the darkest, weakest coffee ever. It took about 4-5 packets of half & half to lighten it up and then when I tasted it, it was barely stronger than water. Honestly, if you overbrew coffee it should be dark and have a very strong taste but somehow this was SO watery. I took a couple of sips and didn't even bother to finish it. For my meal, I tried the biscuits and gravy, which comes with hash browns. The hash browns were actually cooked very well. Crispy and slightly browned as they should be. That was probably the only good thing about them because they were completely bland. I had to add salt to everything to get any flavor. The biscuits were not huge and probably frozen. The gravy had some bits of sausage in it but not much. Again, bland flavor. My wife ordered a scramble with green chili. That also comes with hash browns and toast. Except they forgot the toast. And her green chili was cold. Also, while we were waiting for our food, which wasn't too long, I kept hearing a beeping noise from the kitchen area which sounded oddly familiar. Ince I intentionally listened for it, I recognized it as the sound of a microwave. Which can only mean that they probably don't even make the food fresh but re-heat a lot of it. I won't be back to this place. Such a disappointing meal, I even considered going to McDonalds afterwards just to get some food that I know would have been more satisfying than this meal. read more

Holy buckets, this place is gooood. I got a half order of huevos rancheros (cost less than a coffee at you-know-where) and it filled an entire plate. And the cinnamon roll, oh LOOOOORD. I didn't know this place was so iconic, and I'm glad I was able to try it. Spotted this place heading out of Safeway across the street after not wanting anything small and overpriced from Starbucks. So happy I was able to make it in! First of all, I was surprised at the prices. Maybe I'm just used to overrated brunchy places, but most plates here were $5-$6. At a local establishment? I thought I was back in 2010. It's honestly refreshing to see mom and pop shop's with a "what you see is what you get attitude" and no fluff. Not only was it cheap, it was incredibly good. I had a breakfast sandwich with hash, (added sausage because I'm a meat-lover). It was served on wheat bread, and honestly based on assumptions, I thought it would be like hostess bread -- but it was incredibly thick. It was so big, I had to take the rest on the road. My partner had the steak and eggs and thought it was really good as well. The only downside is that there wasn't a lot of seating. The middle section was arranged like an elementary lunchroom. I'll probably regret not getting cinnamon roll that's all over Yelp, but I'll have to try it next time! read more

We were staying in Alamosa to attend a train event in Antonito Colorado. After a couple of days, we decided to look for a decent breakfast place. The Campus Cafe came highly recommended by another local business. We decided to give them a try. This is a small restaurant. Seating is tight, but everyone is super friendly. Customers and wait staff treat you like you have lived here all your life. Conversations start easy, and everyone visits over their meal. We found the food excellent! All home cooked! The best breakfast in Alamosa! Campus Cafe is a small local joint with friendly staff, great food, and even better prices. Many regulars rave about the breakfast burritos...which are huge! I recommend adding chile to anything you order (burritos, eggs, potatoes, etc...). I prefer the red chile, but the green is good also. If you're not in the mood for chile, the pancakes, waffles, or biscuits and gravy are good choices. Whatever you eat, you MUST top it of with one of their famous cinnamon rolls!!! Keep in mind that one cinnamon roll is enough to feed at least four people. .. and if you're full, the staff will happily pack it to go. Campus Cafe is also open for lunch until 1pm. My lunch recommendation is the cheeseburger and fries with red chile. One last thing. .. don't be scared off if there happens to be a long line on Saturday or Sunday morning... this is normal.
