Went to the Windsor to spend a night and enjoy their dining for my birthday. We started in the Bistro Barbara. The bartender made great Sidecars. We also had delicious Shishito peppers. Great little bar with a good menu. Moved to the dining room for dinner. Service excellent. I had crab cakes and the wife had the scallops. We split a salad. All delicious. Great meal. Now to the room. Renovated in 2012, tall ceilings and added walk in shower. It is about time for another renovation. We were given 2 towels, one had holes and fringe. The bedding could also be updated. Antique chairs were beautiful but your butt sunk deep. Needs new cushions. Great bones in the building, just some easy fixes to make things better. read more

Overall the ambiance is cool. Located in a beautiful hotel with a gorgeous dining room. But the food was underwhelming. Steak had not taste and my scallops were over (which I understand it is hard to nail scallops). But we left feeling like, well we tried it and do not need to come back. A great meal to celebrate my wife and my 7th anniversary. The service by Tammy was impeccable and the ambiance was upscale modern mountain dining. The menu is small but the choices were delicious. The meat and cheese plate had three meats (prosciutto, hard salami & dried beef) three cheeses (lavender, aged Gouda and forgetting the third) with gherkins, olives, mustard and local honey from Del Norte. This was all served with grilled baguette slices. The cocktails were strong and only $10 (definitely not that price in Denver). I really enjoyed a Manhattan with two types of bourbon, cherry & bitters. The grilled ribeye was cooked as requested to medium rare. It was very filling. The grilled pork shank was also good. The greens were a bit bitter but still edible and a dish I'm glad I tried. Smaller dining space so definitely make reservations. A definite restaurant I'd go to again when in the San Luis valley. read more

Wow. I mean, this is a five star for a five star restaurant. I rate places for what they are. The staff was very covid compliant, I felt very safe. The drinks, appetizer and meals were PHENOMENAL!!! I am honestly blown away by the dining experience in such a small town. We went in for my birthday and it was one of the hands down best dining experiences I've had in years (even prior to covid-19) and am making sure to support this lovely business while I am here. As a first timer in Del Norte, I wasn't sure what to expect but this place was a real treat. While the menu was small, I appreciate that have a few items that they really do well. I had the Filet Minon- medium rare which was prepared to perfection. The roasted veggies and horseradish sauce was exquisite. I recommend it and also the house salad. Don't let the small town scare you away- there is a hidden gem in the Windsor hotel. The hotel BTW is a great place to stay and very well finished. read more

Thank you sweet baby Jesus in the manger for this wonderful restaurant so close to home. I guess I would consider myself an amateur foodie. I say that because I know serious foodies, the kind that eat something different every day and post each meal on their Instagram, the chefs that have an exquisite sense of what pairs well, the food critic that has a palette that can distinguish even the slightest flavor in a dish. As for me, I love food and will gladly try pretty much anything at least once. The more unique the better. That said, I moved to a small town and missed eating inventive food. The Windsor has satisfied that missing link in my life, in fact, the Windsor is special. I've dined with them a few times and each time, i find something new to love. The Saturday before last, I found the polenta appetizer to obsess over. The flavor is divine!! I could eat this appetizer for every meal. To be honest, I kind of want to drive to Del Norte right now. It's not just the polenta, everything from the service, to the drinks, to the appetizers, main course and the desserts are exceptional!! Other Yelp! reviewers are way to easy to score a 4 and a 5. I say this so you will have a better understanding of what this means...I am giving a 5*! Amazing! Beautiful! Wow! Spectacular! Some of the best I have ever had! PLEASE do NOT let this change your expectation :) I stopped for lunch and had the El Cubano Sandwich. I had high expectations because I let Yelp* influence my desires. It met ALL my expectations! OK, a complaint, (should I drop to 4*'s?) The bread of the sandwich was not a good choice by the chef as it didn't hold up. I ended up eating it with a fork. Damn! Its was still so very good! Great service! We regularly drive through Del Norte to Durango from Denver and we're tired of typical road trip food. The Dining Room was a delightful departure from greasy spoons and chains. Lovely clean atmosphere. My dinner of double pork chops in a mustard plum sauce with grilled asparagus and vegetable augratin was a perfectly satisfying meal. They have a typical children's menu, but all of the items are homemade, the fries are handcut and fried, chicken tenders is lightly battered breast meat, rich and buttery grilled cheese and no box Mac and Cheese here, it's multiple cheesy yumminess. After a long drive home to Denver from Pagosa Springs I was looking for a good lunch. Rolled in on a Sunday in scandals and baseball cap to gold room with ornate chairs and tablecloths. I felt a lil out of place but since the place was near empty went with it. The good was excellent! I had a juicy burger with caramelized onions, perfect tomatoes and cheese. The best restaurant meal I've had in Colorado. And I've lived here since 1989. We drove in to Del Norte at nearly 9:00 PM on a Wednesday. expecting to grab a sandwich at the Subway. But the Windsor was still serving - meaning Hallie and Urs stayed open to let us have dinner with them. Hallie showed us around while Urs cooked us dinner. I am excited to see the hotel open, but, for now, the restaurant alone is worth the journey. We would have been happy with a simple warm meal, but the food was amazing. I had Urs' signature dish, the perch; she had the pulled pork. Both were remarkable. The perch was flavorful and tender, served with vegetables and a tomato sauce that were excellent as well. The pulled pork was stunning. Combined with wonderful bread and a glass of a local microbrew... More than we could have hoped for. Hallie and Urs are a remarkable couple. Their warmth and hospitality were unbeatable, and they serve up a stunning plate of food in an atmosphere that is casually elegant, steeped in the history of the remarkable hotel that they will soon open. Stopped in for dinner last night, with high expectations. As the saying goes "expectations lead to disappointment". The service was wonderful and the room was charming. Unfortunately the food we ordered (pork chop & the steak) was so salty it was hard to enjoy. We did mention this to the manager and he said he would notify the chef. What an amazing treasure in the heart of a small town. We stayed at the hotel, as well, which is equally grand. Their menu has elk, pheasant, rabbit and ribeye, all locally sourced. The elk was melt in your mouth tender. They have veterinarian options including a butternut squash lightly spiced, a polenta and gorgeous salads. This place is definitely worth driving out of your way for a lovely classy dinner, although we were there in jeans and fit right in. read more

Astounding. That's all I can say. I never for the life of me thought I'd have a dining experience like this in Del Norte, but I can assure you EVERY time I return to the valley I will be eating here. Heck - I'll just be hanging out at the bar with Cody. If I lived nearby, you can bet you'd be able to find me here - a LOT!!! This restaurant could easily hold it's own on Los Angeles' restaurant row. The flatiron steak was cooked to absolute perfection. The desserts were unique, luscious and too-die-for. Our waiter, Amos was very wonderful (a genuine cowboy poet); and Cody (the barkeep and husband of the chef) keeps a terrific bar (very nice selection of single-malts on hand). I do need to point out that even if you removed this restaurant from its location and put it in Manhattan, it would still rank VERY highly with me. You just cannot go wrong. I have a feeling that when this place gets discovered by the valley's foodies it'll be reservations only with lines around the block. This restaurant is the real-deal, and an utter joy to have found where it's sitting! Can't recommend it highly enough. read more

The Turkey was perfect, the deep fried Brussels sprouts with pomegranate seeds were amazing, my favorite was the fruit compote sweet potatoes- good enough to be desert. Yet, the traditional apple pie, chocolate pie and pumpkin cheesecake didn't disappoint. Bottom line - a gourmet thanksgiving dinner all served family style. We will be back next year. read more

WOW! A gem in the middle of nowhere! Some say they are pricey, but believe me, the quality and style of their food makes it worthwhile! In my honest opinion, not even pricey. They have an amazing array of wonderful appetizers. Their salads are out of this world, and it was so hard to pick from the entrees! Their meats, and greens are from local farmers. Their wine collection is so wonderfully vast and carefully selected. Their beers are also from local breweries, and taste amazing. Highly recommend you to go the extra miles if you are staying in the close surroundings of Del Norte! Also, their hotel, AMAZING! Wow! My fiber friend of Sweet Grass Farm, formerly Cuesta Farms, sadly moving from Del Norte back to McIntosh, NM treated me to brunch at The Dining Room at the Windsor. I drooled over the menus...anything I wanted ...breakfast, lunch or dinner. I sadly bypassed the apple fritters on the breakfast menu and settled on the chicken in port wine with berries. I ate everything! Wished that I could have a quart or two of the sauce in my fridge/freezer for snacks: that good! My friend loved the steak and eggs and she generously shared her huge side order of hash browns. Out of this world. I could eat an entire order by myself, but then I would lose my waste line. Hallie who partners in the restaurant with her chef husband, is a delight. She is passionate about food and made me feel at home. This is a destination restaurant; a dining room in the European tradition with tablecloths and cloth napkins, and architectural details to match. By mid April you will be able to spend the night in a beautifully renovated rooms, not have to drive on a full tummy and maybe have room for breakfast ! read more

Finally settled on bacon wrapped blue cheese stuffed dates with a balsamic glaze over micro greens, curry pumpkin risotto balls with a yogurt based dip, and seared duck breast with a cherry beet purée golden beets and goat cheese. Everything was prepared wonderfully. They have four rotating Colorado taps. While we were there they had hop trash-3 barrel brewey, mercenary- Odell, cut throat porter- Odell, and third base trippel- poncha springs brewery. Everything was amazing!!! My wife and I stopped in for dinner after reading all the great reviews. I have to say all the reviews were spot on, this place is amazing. It's situated in the Windsor hotel in Del Norte, a small quiet town. You couldn't expect such a fine dining experience in such a small town but that is exactly what this place provides, fine dining in my opinion. We had the Goat Cheese Polenta starter and the flat iron steak and coq a vin entrees. I had never had polenta before and as my first experience with it, I thought it was great, the pickled onions on top really did the trick for me. The flat iron steak came with broccolini, mashed potatoes, and bordelaise sauce. The steak was cooked to perfection (med-rare), and the broccolini and mashed potatoes were excellent. The bordelaise sauce was just amazing when poured over the steak and I almost wanted to lick the plate but I restrained myself; yes, it was that good. The coq a vin was excellent as well with great tasting chicken and the veggies were just perfectly cooked, with a bit of crunch to the carrots and snap peas. To top of the amazing meal we also had the chocolate soufflé as our dessert. It has a soft chocolate center and comes with vanilla cream sauce and is poured over the soufflé. It was crazy good and I can't really put it into words. My mouth is watering as I remember. TIP 1: Call in a reservation, if possible days in advance. We stopped in and because we didn't have a reservation we had to sit in the bar, which was no big deal and were taken great care of by Connor, this guy was amazing and really cared. TIP 2: Dress code is casual! My wife made me put on slacks and button up shirt and upon arrival I saw several people in jeans, t-shirts, and shorts. read more
