Excellent smoothness and taste, but a limited kick, which I enjoyed, but my companio was a bit disappointed with. We ordered a taco salad and the enchilada tamale plate. I really like eating here I enjoy the taste of their food. However, we have eaten here twice in the last 2 weeks and both times the food I received was not the dish I ordered. Last week, I sent the plate back and the cook corrected the problem. I ordered soft tacos and got crunchy instead. Not what I wanted. This week I ordered specifically off the À la carte menu so I could have just a bean and cheese burrito-NO meat or sides. I got a beef, bean, and cheese burrito with rice on the side. I ate some of it but did not send it back for correction. We had the same waiter both times. I'm wondering if the waiter doesn't write the order down correctly or does the cook not understand written English? I hope they don't have incorrect orders often but .......? read more

Truly good! We seated ourselves next to the stone fireplace which needed a thorough cleaning and enjoyed the log cabin ambiance. Tables only, no booths. The rest of the place looked clean! Our server Dennis was very kind and attentive to us and answered all our questions. It was raining this evening but we were happy this place was open. After driving many hours from Denver, I opted for a margarita and got the Top Shelf. It was really delicious. Strong too!! They have a copious selection of dishes but I wanted the shredded beef enchilada and chile relleño combo which came with beans and rice. The beans tasted homemade and the machaca in the enchilada was amazing!! My fresh green chile relleno was filled with a yummy white cheese (not the dreaded cheap cheddar cheese!) and the portions were perfect. While the prices are higher than most other places, it's really a solid Mexican food restaurant!! read more

Do not stop here. Worst fake margarita and low quality Mexican food in my life. One sip of the marg and you'll feel like vomiting up cheap sweet and sour mix. my chicken tacos came out in 5 minutes and had a piece of chicken skin the size of the palm of my hand inside. Where to being.... I know this sounds dramatic but I've never such terrible food in my life. The chile relleno tasted so bland and it literally felt like slime going down my throat. The napkins were so thin that I couldn't even spit it out. And when I asked to get it taken off my the bill she said sense I took 1 BITE, It couldn't be taken off. The enchilada tasted like rubber and supper bland. The red sause they used tasted like ketchup. And the queso we order at the being was so runny I could barely even get some on my chip. Grabbed take out from here bc other places were too busy.. that should have been our first sign... I can't account for the service bc of the take out situation, but the food was pretty bad. The fajitas were tough... we got beef for 1. The sides that are supposed to come w the fajitas basically didn't exist! Literally one dollop of sour cream, no cheese and a few pieces of sheeted lettuce, and no tomatoes. The queso was melted cheese w zero flavor and we only got a small bag of chips for 4 people! We ordered pork tamales and instead we got some sort of green pepper thing. NOT tamales at all. The rice and beans was something to be desired, and the enchilada sauce was super bland. Honestly sorry to say we spent 77$ on this food. Don't bother. Hit up Ramon's down the street. read more

Well, Back on the road. Work has me in South Fork, Colorado this week. Checked Yelp as I always do and decided to try another local mom & pop. I try to stay away from chain restaurants cause I know what I'm getting there. So going by the 4 star rating I decided to give Los Chavalos a try. First, What they call Fajitas are probably just round steak or sirloin cut into little strips. True Fajitas are from a cut called skirt steak. I've included pics of what real Fajitas look like both Raw and cooked. Real beef skirt has ridges and looks like crepe paper. The meat I was served was tough and hard to chew. Real Fajitas are extremely tender. I would compare the meat they served me as The carne asada bowl from Chipotle. Let's move on to the Tortillas. Not homemade or fresh. These I could tell were packaged Tortillas that were just warmed up. The beans I can only assume were refried beans from a can. I'm from South Texas. We call it Tex-Mex but we take pride in what is served. The 4 Stars I'm sure are a result of the retired Caucasian clientele I watched walking in after me that probably came to this Ski Lodge town in an RV. So I can't even give this establishment a middle of the road rating so I'm giving Los Chavalos only 2 stars. read more

We had just driven into South Fork and unpacked in our condo and were so hungry and didn't want to have to cook. We looked on yelp and found this Mexican food restaurant. It was very nice. Went for breakfast, my friend and I ordered pancakes which they are now cooking in a mold or skillet and are at least an inch thick. My friend's was done but when I cut into mine the raw batter came gushing out. Gross! read more

My friend and I would come for lunch several times a month it was fabulous! Eva the manager and Sergio the chef were fantastic! Then we went back and Eva was gone, we thought just an extremely deserved day off since she would often open, serve and help in the kitchen when they were short staffed which was often, but we always had wonderful service. we ordered our meals when the chips and salsa arrived the chips were burnt, the salsa tasted like it was going bad, when our meals arrive they were horrible absolutely horrible! I couldn't eat mine. I asked the lil waitress that was almost in tears from other customers were blaming her for horrific food, if Sergio was the chef and she said no he's not. We tried again but it wasn't any better, asked about Eva and Sergio and we were told they left and no longer work there. Needless to say we won't go back ever and share with everyone about how horrific it is now. I would most certainly not recommend! Do NOT bother. This place is awful! The queso was white and tasted like gravy with sour cream, sent back. The salsa is tomato purée with spice - not bad not good. The "whole" beans, as they called them, tasted canned, rice boiled to a soft mush, flattened Chile relleno, soft squishy churros, not crispy, and the $10 top shelf margarita? sorry, cannot tell you about the food or the drinks at this establishment. I can tell you that the service is horrible. I walked in and was seated quickly, I was given chips and salsa, which were very good. But after that, no other contact with a service staff. Waiter pass by my table at least a doze times in a half hour. He seemed courteous to the other guests, bringing their meals, drinks and replenishing their drinks. But never offered me a menu. Never asked if I wanted something to drink. Acted as if the table I was sitting at was empty. I did see three other servers working, so they were not short staffed. My suggestion is just like the waiter did pass it by. read more
