We were trying to purchase a used motorhome, but unfortunately it did not work out. Our salesperson was a blatant liar, he was condescending, not helpful at all and extremely unknowledgeable. It wasn't until we set up an appointment for our independent certified RV inspector to come to Camping World to perform a full inspection on the motorhome we wanted, that they decided to disclose the motorhomes hidden damage to us, which ultimately ended the purchase process. At this stage, knowing how expensive hidden damage can be, we won't buy any RV without an independent inspection. The folks that work there are definitely friendly and we'll still shop at Camping World, but it won't be for anything as major as a motorhome. read more

Our insurance company told us to take our rv to this business, the rv company we wanted, was not on insurance approval list. Our rv sat on their lot for 320 DAYS, no repair was started. Multitudes of phone calls and emails were exchanged. Discovered most of those from them were not in good faith. Finally, being repaired somewhere else. Called in to check on the free RV sites as we were traveling thru Alabama on our way to Florida. We were told they had a number of sites and it was first come first served. We arrived just before night and nailed the last spot. We were met with a delightful older man who greeted us and helped us get situated. It was a hot night and the electric hookup was great and almost level. Water was provided as well. There is also a Sami station. We were blessed. read more

What a great find! I pulled in because I needed something from the store, had a question about my house batteries, and thought I might ask if they had a campground. I was greeted with kindness and treated like family. Jimmy and David answered my questions and helped me find what I needed. I was pleasantly surprised to find Gander is part of their store. Not only did they let me stay in their lot, they hooked me up to power and water and didn't charge me anything. They Introduced me to their manager, John, who was equally inviting. The showroom and the store were very nice. I, of course, found some things at Gander I could not pass up and Hunter took good care of me at the store. The next day I asked about staying another night and David said that would be perfectly fine. He even recommended a bike trail close by. When a problem arose numerous people came together to help. My wife and I purchased a used travel trailer from an individual in Dothan, AL. Today was the day that we were scheduled to pick it up. The seller told me that the weight distribution hitch was included in the sale. When we arrived to pick up the camper, the hitch was too low for our truck, even at its highest adjustment point, as the hitch was made for the seller's lifted truck. We went to Gander RV in Dothan, AL and was helped by Melissa "MJ", to find a suitable hitch that would work with our standard truck. MJ was EXCELLENT and she was able to provide the receiver that we needed to pull our travel trailer to our home, AND BEYOND! They were more interested in standing around talking than customer service. We were in a 40 foot motor home with a tow. For all the salesmen knew we were there to trade up. They didn't have one but the folks in the parts department got with one of the technicians in the back and made one up to get us back on the road. The price was beyond reasonable. BUYER BEWARE! DON'T BUY HERE!! The local RV shops that I've discovered since my purchase refer to them as the Walmart of RV sales. They took my money for a used RV that is a lemon for sure, and they don't want to help at all. Prior to signing I negotiated that they fix the gross skylights, ( they left one ) repaired the CO detectors ( left one with completely cut wiring ) and made sure all the lights were working ( I've had to replace several bulbs and one complete fixture )!! This is all not to mention that I've spent hundreds on leaky plumbing and a broken water heater, and they even tried to get away without cleaning it at all. They will take your money and run! It has been a horrible first RV experience, thanks to them. read more

Called and made an appointment a little over a week in advance to have the antenna repaired on our Winnebago. We let them know that it was a warranty issue and the service department didn't ask any questions, just made the appointment. When we showed up early for our 0830 appointment, they advised us that it could take a few hours due to the likely back and forth between them and Winnebago. Why we were not advised of this when we called to make the appointment, I don't know but we were already there. So we waited...and waited. Finally my husband had to go to the service counter and ask the status. He was told that they sent pictures of the damaged antenna to Winnebago and they responded that it appeared we struck something with the antenna (it actually came flying off while driving down the interstate - so yeah - it struck the pavement at about 60 mph but that's neither here nor there at the moment). Anyhow, after explaining that to the service staff, they sent another email and we waited some more. At about 1130, still nothing, so my husband went back up to the counter again and this time was told that they were still waiting on the latest determination from Winnebago. We told them to just fix the antenna and we'll deal with Winnebago accordingly. I mean, how difficult is it to at least communicate updates to the customer and let them make a decision rather than keeping them waiting while you basically do nothing but sit around and wait for an email? Also while sitting outside, we watched one of their staff cleaning the parking lot with a blower. You would think they'd do this earlier in the morning, perhaps before they opened and there weren't 15 cars in the lot. This guy was just blowing trash, dirt, and rocks all over customers' vehicles. And now 5 hours later, we are back in our RV and the antenna works. Although they couldn't even put the sticker straight on the control or wipe the grime from installation off of it...but at this point, I guess I'm just nitpicking. We had also asked for an estimate on some minor body damage but never got it and didn't want to ask because after that long, we wanted to get the hell out of there. This place is great for RV accessories especially as a Good Sam member but we will avoid their service department at this location in the future. *** An hour later *** After taking a second look at the paperwork after we left, their email traffic was attached in order to aid us in our dispute with Winnebago. The time stamp on the initial email says 1230 and the response from tech service at Winnebago says 1240. So it appears that they flat out lied to us at 1130 when they said they were still waiting on a response from Winnebago. Cool. read more

Service seems to take weeks for seemingly simple repairs, but that may be a parts shipment issue. Bought a new 5th wheel from these people. Was lied to from the start. Promised things from the salesman, Travis, did not deliver. Things that were wrong with camper that were supposed to be fixed or replaced still have not been taken care of after almost 2 months. Service manager John promises to look into things then will not return calls and can't get anyone else to handle issues. Finally called corporate office and got a call from acting store manager Anthony Williams, promised to take care of issues. Another empty promise. Have a seven year warranty on this camper and can't get any repairs fixed. Will never deal with this location again. Suggest you look else where for your new camper. I recently (January 2022) purchased a new trailer from a dealer in Calera AL. After having it repaired under warranty several times, I took the trailer home again and found out the AC/heating was no longer functional. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. I was able to make an appointment (two weeks waiting time) at Camping World of Dothan and was told that they'd have me in and out in one day. Much to my surprise, they did exactly that. After inspecting, my trailer, the service department discovered that neither AC had been installed correctly. Some wiring was crushed, other wires were not hooked up, plenum was installed backwards, ducting was torn, etc... This was all on a brand new 2022 trailer. This doesn't say much for the quality control provided by the manufacturer of my trailer but it says a lot for the quality of the service department at Camping World of Dothan. I was extremely impressed by the professionalism, courtesy, and knowledge displayed by all personnel that I came in contact with during my brief wait time. They will definitely have my business in the future. read more

Camping world of Dothan, Al. Has horrible customer service and inept service personal. They have had my RV since April 30 and as of today,May 27, 2022 have not completed the job. I had asked that the service personal install 3 different electronic devices and the response I received was " we've never installed anything like this before. I purchased a quad camera system and they wanted to charge me 160.00/Hr. To install it. The service manager stated it would take at least 8 hours. Then, I purchased a Cellphone booster and the service people stated that the kind I purchased wouldn't work on a Class C motor home. I called the company I purchased the booster from and they stated The booster can be installed on any type Rv., Plus I asked service to install security lights on the outside of my RV. And service once again stated " those lights are for houses only." Camping world service people are wrong again! I called the company that I purchased the lights from and they stated the lights can be placed on an R.V. Camping world also informed me I needed a new A.C. Unit and it would take 4-6 weeks to receive a new one. I suggest why not take a new A.C. Off of one of the new campers on the lot and install it on my R/V, then when the ordered A.C. Arrives place on the new R.V. Still on the lot. There response " we don't do that!" I call Bull Shit! I've seen them do! I will never buy another RV or parts from camping world ever. If I need service I will drive 200 miles out of my way to have my camper serviced. I even called the CEO's office! Do you think that helped? "NOPE!" Apparently Marcus doesn't care if your happy or not! I like the products and we enjoy looking at the campers but there website said opened til 7 (Sunday) so we were walking around a little before 6 and instead of an announcement they were closing they just started turning off the lights on us. Camper World in Dothan has the worst customer service department that I have ever experienced. Our 2018 camper has been there for 4.5 months for minor repairs and still not complete. They ordered the same part four times...the first part was the wrong part, the next two were broken. For the next repair, they ordered the wrong color. Once, after Camper World had the camper for four months, the service manager called to ask if we had the camper or if they had the camper...which I reminded them that they had had the camper for the past four months. We still don't have the camper. It took Camper World about three weeks to determine that our ten-month-old camper was still under the twelve-month warranty. read more

What started out as a good transaction (until they got our money) turned sour pretty fast. My 75 year old mother bought a used camper for an annual family camping trip and was told that before they delivered it that it would be checked out from one end to the other to make sure that everything was working and that there were no safety issues. We were told that someone would show her how everything worked on it when they delivered it as they didn't really have the staff there that day, but when the guy delivered it (with his wife), he told my elderly mother that he was in a hurry and had his wife with him, so she felt pressured to not ask for a walk through. My brother takes the camper out and sets it up and turns on the generator and everything appears to be working fine, but when quiet hours came around and she had to shut the generator off...NOTHING WORKED!!! We charged the battery just to make sure, checked fuses and breakers all to no avail, so we had to drag the camper back out and mess up her family camping trip. We called Camping World countless times and had to deal with extremely rude sales manager mark who insisted it had to be the brand new battery. He talked down to us like we were idiots and I had to inform him that while I wasn't a mechanic I am pretty sure it wasn't the battery since my truck was hooked to it for the past 30 minutes and nothing was working! He kept blowing us off and offered no help....just stall tactics. I called the customer service number and filed a complaint on that level and was told that someone would call me within 48 hours....obviously, no one called. So, I called the customer service number again and got the same guy who was shocked that they hadn't called, but he offered to resend the request and said that someone should contact me within 24 hours....STILL HAVEN'T heard anything!!! Don't waste your time buying from this place, unless you liked being jerked around or taken advantage of...especially if you are a senior citizen! Buyer beware!! read more

Purchased online they sent pictures of everything but what they did not want me to see, was told it was a very nice camper, and that everything was going to be checked out and in good working condition, paid full blown retail price for this camper I thought it would be in top condition when delivered, not the case when delivered the pig tail rubbed the pavement and rubbed into, ref. roof vent busted to pieces from dry rot, roof vent in bathroom busted to pieces from dry rot, spare tire flat dry rotted, tail light didn't work, electric brakes all 4 wheels had to be rewired they did not work either, refrigerator circuit board was fried, ref. gas burner rusted out, gas regulator and hoses had to be replaced gas valve on water heater had to be replaced, gas valve on furnace had to be replaced was leaking gas, roof leaked and rotted floor and back wall out like this when it came to me, tag holder was broken, tongue jack didn't work had a sheared pin in it, battery cover missing, bumper plugs missing, radio does not work, shower head leaked, outside shower hose leaks, smoke alarm In kitchen missing, 12 volt water pump don't work, fuse to gas detector was missing because of all the gas leaks, no keys to doors or storage compartments, they did not even have the title to it. exaust fan in bath room is noisy, some inside lights don't work, some ext. running lights don't work, propane tanks hold down bracket wing nut was missing, roof needs to be resealed, exterior needs to be re caulked at seems, window seals need replaced. come to find out the camper was consignment they did not own it after they told me they just got it in and haven't had time to clean it up. Came in on a Monday as a customer and settled on a purchase for a new 5th wheel. Filled out all the paperwork for financing. We were told that because it was late in the day we would not get an answer on credit approval until the next day. Understandable and also our credit was not stellar but we were told by the finance person that it looked like there would be no problem getting approval. Tuesday no call all day. We called around 430 and spoke with our salesperson Brenda Stouts. She said that the finance person was with a customer and that she would get with him and call us back. We received no call. The next day (Wednesday), still no call from them. We called again late in the afternoon. Our salesperson was not working. The person answering the phone said that they would give message to finance person to call. Still no call. Following day (Thursday) we called again around noon. Salesperson still off for the day and person taking our call said that she would relay our request for a call back. Once again no call back. Friday no call. We gave up at that point. Still don't know if our financing was approved. Even if it was approved, at this point I would not buy a soda from the vending machine at Camping World of Dothan Al. Very unprofessional, at the very least completion of the transaction with the customer regardless of the outcome does not seem unreasonable. Set up an appointment. Looked at the toy-hauler. Agreed to a price, numbers of years for payment and loan establishment. On returning to sign the paperwork 6 days later and we were made to wait while they got the camper ready. The gentleman who reviewed the camper with us is the only reason this place got one star, he was thorough and when he noticed something that needed repairing, he pointed it out. When we finally sat down to sign the paperwork, we noticed the loan had changed from a 12 year loan to a 15 year loan and they had added $5000.00 to the price.....they had worked the numbers so the monthly payment was basically the same. This was pointed out to them and my husband said we would go to lunch while they found the paperwork with the original quote and figured out what had happened. When we came back, it was one lie after another, first he said that my husband had looked at another camper (flipping a sheet out, but would never let my husband look at it AND my husband went to look at one specific toy-hauler) and he had done the paperwork on the wrong one......WRONG. Second he said that my husband had written down the wrong numbers......at what point does the customer fill out any of the paperwork? Then it was the wrong VIN and we were looking at the price for a 2017 instead of a 2018......HIS paperwork in which he kept underlining the letter of the VIN to show me(because someone else was trying to convince my husband it was all correct) how we figured this out said 2018......a VIN is specific to one vehicle, correct? And it went on. We finally walked out and let them keep the camper. It wouldn't have been so bad if they had just been up front with it all, but they added $5000.00 to the price and changes the loan agreement so the price looked the same. DO NOT SHOP HERE OR HAVE YOUR RV SERVICED HERE!!!! I have 2 air conditioners that aren't working on my camper and one is still under warranty. I brought my camper to have them diagnosed/repaired/replaced. After a whole day, I called to find out what was wrong, and was told "I was just about to call you". Their diagnosis which cost 129.99 was that the back ac unit "was shot". Then I was told the front unit blows cold for 3 minutes then my surge protector takes power from the camper, so they couldn't diagnose it properly - yet they still charged me 129.99 for that one. They blame my surge protector. I asked them to bypass the surge protector, and they said it would cost an hour of labor (129.99). I told them I would come get it and when I asked, I was told my entire bill was going to be over $300. When I asked why, I was told for shop supplies. They had not added one thing to the camper. I put up enough of a fuss that he took off the shop supplies. BTW, I brought the camper home and plugged it in....with the surge protector still installed. The ac has been running for over an hour now and still no cold air. I wasted 2 days and $260 for absolutely nothing. read more
