Generally positive experience with CampfireCycling.com, the ecommerce site for a Tucson retail store specializing in bikepacking and related camping equipment. Products appear limited to premium brands and products at MSRP prices. On June 15 I placed an order for a product, only to learn after the fact that it was on back-order in the order confirmation email. It would have been nice to know this during the purchase process. Further, I was surprised to see that CampfireCycling.Com took the full payment upfront with no estimated availability date. In my experience most retailers may "authorize" the credit card at the time of purchase, but will not take funds until stock is replenished, or better yet, when the item is ready for shipment. After a delay, I emailed Customer Service, who explained COVID19 supply-chain disruptions, made stock availability unknown. The item eventually shipped 30 days later, was received after 6 calendar days via FedEx Ground, was well packaged and received in excellent condition. Customer Service responded within 24 hours to email inquiries and was polite and honest about the situation. Moreover, upon request, they retroactively extended a discount that was applicable at the time of shipping, refunding my account the corresponding amount. Other than the aforementioned Backorder status and related payment policy, my experience was positive and reasonable, especially given the challenges to international supply chains and shipping. In "normal circumstances" I'm confident the level of service and experience would have been flawless. I would buy again from CampfireCycling.com read more

The store is generally geared toward bikepacking and touring. Campfire Cycling incorporated The Touring Store, an online provider of Ortlieb bags and Tubus racks. Campfire still sells Tubus racks and Ortlieb (and other) bags, but also sells trailers, camping equipment, and electronics. They don't sell all the tchotchkes you would find at a big outdoor equipment store, but they seem to concentrate on higher-quality equipment. If you're in the market for the kind of stuff they sell but don't know all the ins and outs of picking good equipment, you can pretty much count on the inventory to suit your needs. The site has a Blog section with advice, how-tos, and ride descriptions. I've bought equipment from them for years.The order response is quick and accurate, and they answer their emails. read more

I recently purchased a couple of Ortlieb bags (Trunk Bag and Saddle Bag Two) over the web from Campfire Cycling. I had a question on the Trunk Bag fitting a specific Tubus rack that is on my bike and emailed the question. Not only did they answer the question, they actually took the Trunk Bag and tried it on the exact rack (they had one in the store). I was told it would work and it fits great on my rack. Communication with Campfire Cycling was easy. The Trunk Bag had to back-ordered, so they offered to ship the Saddle Bag right away. I was not in a real hurry, so I told them to wait. The wait was very short and the bags arrived less than a week later. Will definitely check CampfireCycling out next time I am looking for bike or bike related camping equipment. read more

This review is for online purchases. When my birthday came around last fall I know I wanted to turn my gravel bike into a bikepacking rig. My son asked me what I wanted for my birthday and the search was on. I looked around online and found that Campfire Cycling stocked the bags I was looking for (Ortlieb and Oveja Negra). My son ordered one bag for me as a gift, which shipped promptly. I liked the bag so much, I placed an online order with Campfire Cycling shortly after the new year. This time I ordered three additional bags. All items shipped the following day via USPS and I received emails notifying me of my order status, along with tracking information. This store pulled through for me when no other store could. I wanted a specific pannier set that was out of stock at every store I looked at online, including the Ortlieb website itself. At Campfire Cycling they showed it on backorder, so I put in my order assuming (because of covid) I would get it in about a month. They got it to me in less than a week and a half.... How?! Did they post someone up on the assembly line and yoink the set as soon as it was manufactured? They also got it to me for $40 cheaper than any other store that had it listed (with a discount code). I have a few other purchases I need to make before I'm ready for long-distance bikepacking trips, and I will look to this store first. read more

Holy moly, this is my new favorite place in Tucson. I've been to quite a few bike shops around town doing research for my first bike, and this is hands down the most comfortable shop here. I finally found a bike online and when it arrived, I immediately took it to Campfire Cycling to have it built. Mike was very easy to talk to on the phone and Toby is an amazing mechanic! Toby built it super fast and was a great resource for researching new rims for a tubeless setup. Prices are crazy affordable and service is fast and friendly. I will be frequenting this shop for all of my biking, gravelling, bikepacking needs! The shop was also highly recommended by many of my coworkers, and I understand why :) read more

I stumbled upon this site while searching for a longer yoke for an older B.O.B. trailer. I had some concerns about fit because the trailer is old. I received a return call that it should fit (the original trailer was a Yak and the new yoke was for an Ibex but it fit perfectly). The price was good, the shipping was reasonable and it was one of the few vendors that had it in stock so I placed the order. When it arrived I was impressed by the improvements in the pin fasteneing system and the longer arm length fits a 28 inch wheel with a fender. While I love the idea of working with my Local Bike Shop (LBS) - many of us are either too far away from well stocked ones, or at a level of cycling that our LBS can't always support it. I was excited to find CampFire Cycling - a small, personal shop with high quality gravel & bike packing support and merchandise. I was surprised to get a call about my tire size affecting my rack I ordered to make sure that I can run the larger tires that I do. Thats great service, and it fit well. I couldn't be happier with all of our experiences with Campfire. Josh and Greg are always super nice and welcoming. They always respond to my emails with helpful, honest information. When purchasing a new gravel bike they went above and beyond to help get the fit right and swapped out the stock tires with something more appropriate for the conditions I ride at no cost. All the maintenance and upgrade work they have done for me has been at very reasonable rates and has come out perfect. The only bike shop I go to in Tucson now. read more

Without going into too many details, I purchased a pedelec system from BikeShopHub because they had the best deal in the country on what I wanted. Unfortunately, because of a wiring defect, the system which was installed on my bike here in Ohio had to be returned to the manfacturer in Canada. Long story short, they were able to help me get the system shipped to Canada, repaired and reinstalled here in Ohio and get the manufacturer to issue me a refund which covered most of my additional costs. They sent me the bags that were in stock and kept be informed as to when the other bags became available. I now have all of my new gear and everything arrived properly packaged and in brand-new condition. Ordered a longer fork for my b.o.b. trailer. The process was pretty easy and shipping was efficient. I think they were the only company that offered this for (I didn't search too long though). I'm excited to check out what else I could use from them for my next bikepacking trip! I was lucky to be able to shop in person at the showroom in Tucson. Very good COVID precautions are taken, and only 4 customers allowed in the store at a time. It was great to be able to check out the bikes/gear in person rather than just online and see so many bikepacking products. I was able to try different frame bags on my bike and choose the best fit. I ordered a Surly Disc Trucker with lots of add-ons. I am now on a cross-country cycling trip. I am presently in Wichita Kansas. After more than 1000 miles, I had a look at the bike today. He commented on what a great build it was and how obvious it was that Campfire Cyclery paid attention to the details.
