Campestre is labeled by its sign as a "bar & grill," which is usually a descriptor reserved for restaurants serving typical "American" fare. Nonetheless, Campestre is a Mexican restaurant in good shape, sporting a bar area with a couple of large flat-screen TVs (tuned to a U-17 World Cup game between Mexico and Guatemala), and surprisingly spicy salsa--yum! The food arrived hot and in large quantities--the tamale was the best one I've found in any Mexican restaurant on this side of the country. It was a little more white-corn based than the yellow-corn style I've been used to, but it was still quite tasty. Prices were average, the service moderate, and the bathrooms were clean. Had an actually healthy dinner here - grilled fish (cod) and shrimp, with corn, broccoli, rice, and a side salad. No complaints. Service at the bar was solid. Update: Went a 2nd night and had a standard combo - enchiladas and taco. The taco was limp and flavorless but the enchiladas were fine. My family and friends frequent this restaurant weekly and we all have done this together for the last year. Recently we have noticed the changes in the atmosphere and things allowed at the bar area causing us to question if this is where we want to continue to bring our family and friends for our weekly outings. We have noticed more people drinking way more than they should be allowed lately and particularly a man sitting at the bar area every time we have been there drinking heavily, being loud and obnoxious not to mention aggressively approaching women and younger girls as if he is trying to talk them into leaving with him hence this is a restaurant not a bar, correct? The guests at the table beside of us noticed as well and told my wife the mans name is Matt, he looks to be in his late 40's to early 50's which makes him approaching younger girls even more of a concern. Even though we enjoy our visit and sitting at the tables around the bar area because the men like to enjoy the TV while our wives and kids talk and enjoy the food we have decided until this atmosphere goes back to being a family oriented establishment that doesn't allow this man or any others drinking heavily to act this way and worry about the well being of these young girls or women we will no longer meet here twice a week. Our server "Alex" took our order and we only saw him once after that, as he dropped the bill off he asked my wife if she would like another drink, she said yes and never saw it. My traveling companion and I were in the mood for Mexican food and Campestre did not disappoint us! Kicked off with a bowl of their chips and salsa as we sat down, the chips were crispy, not too salty, and the salsa nice and spicy plus obviously homemade! We both liked the salsa a lot! Combined with a couple of Pacifico beers and we were happy fellas! My companion decided on a combo plate, which he enjoyed and I had the Tres Garcias. A large plate of food, piping hot, and very tasty. I recommend it as an option when you are in the New River Gorge area for sure, Friendly staff even while the restaurant was quite busy. first of all, the food was excellent as always. if we were going off food alone, 5 stars. the 3 stars are because I have had GOD AWFUL service from the same waitress the last two times I was here. for context, I was a server and a bartender for 10+ years so I completely understand things can be out of your control sometimes. HOWEVER when you are busy, understaffed, backed up, WHATEVER- you do not leave your table sitting without even bringing the waters to the table for over 30 minutes (33 to be exact). you also do not avoid eye contact when you know your table needs things (this happened both times she was my server, would not even look in our direction because she knew we needed things that had already been asked for). this girl walked into the room we were seated in 3 separate times with nothing but the check presenter in her hand (plenty of space for 2 waters we needed lol). then when she brought my marg that was supposed to have a tajin rim, I said "oh that was supposed to have a tajin rim but whatever i guess" she didn't say a word, walked off, and had someone else wait on us. if you were out of tajin, NO BIG DEAL but you can't just bring someone a drink that's incorrect and not address it, more likely she fucked it up based on all previous interactions thus far though. do your business a favor and fire the girl with dark hair and a septum ring, I'm sure I'm not the only person who has had this kind of experience with her and again, very understanding when it's busy, and things are properly communicated, etc. no excuse for this though. read more

Hunger is good sauce. They do a bang up business. We have eaten "Mexican" food / Southwestern food and would rate this slithly aboce average. However, the Sangria wine is perfect .... people seem to mess that up alot. The sauce served with the chips is REALLY good but the chips themselves are so-so. (They should be paper thin.) Went to this place after bad reviews about Outback and we were pleasantly surprised. We were seated promptly on a Friday night and everyone was nice and super professional. The place is really nice inside with tons of booths. The lighting was a little bright at our table, but it really wasn't an issue. I got a tall Dos Equis and my girlfriend had a peach daiquiri, which she said was "strong" They brought chips, salsa and some white stuff over to our table right as we sat down. We thought the white stuff was cheese, but it wasn't... so we passed on that. We had the steak super burrito and a shrimp and cheese quesadilla and they were great. The quesadilla was not on the menu, but they had no problem with a special order. All that for $35 and the service was stellar. Would definitely come back. read more

Chose this place for the numerous veggie options, but OMG, this was SO delicious!!! Our family got veggie fajitas (wonderful), seafood fajitas (best I've ever had), mixed grill quesadilla (very good), Mac & cheese with waffle fries from kids menu (very good), and my husband got a combination platter which he enjoyed. I was driving into the area from Virginia. As I was getting off of the highway I saw the restaurant. The outside looking nice and inviting. I gave it a shot for lunch. It turned out to be a great decision. I sat at the bar and was helped by the manager/server. They were admittedly shorthanded but their team did a great job. With over 8 waiters standing around the checkstand and sitting at the bar watching TV, not one of them brought us a menu. This is an easy review to write. My family eats at Campestre several times a month. The place is very clean. The staff are attentive and pleasant. The prices are competitive to similar restaurants in the areas. The atmosphere is lively with multiple televisions playing sporting events behind the bar. It's family friendly with space to move around. The food is consistently good. Each of our family members has their favorites and looks forward to ordering it every time we come.
