Camp Speers is nothing short of a nightmare. The first thing that happened to me when I got there…read morewas being told that I would be in a different cabin than my friends. This was a total surprise to me because I requested all of them and they requested me. After having to call my parents so they could beg the head leaders if I could switch they let me. Thank the lord that they even allowed that because if they didn't I probably would have run away. When I got into my cabin, I was greeted to ants in my bed and promised that I would get a cot. This cot ended up not getting delivered and I had to sleep on the floor for the whole week. After the ants spread through all of the yoga mat beds, did they actually do something. That something was them spraying a powder that did nothing to the ants. The ants came back the next day. When it was finally time to eat, I was expecting the food to be bad, but not inedible. We were served green French fries and half frozen chicken fingers. The option that me and my friends took were the salad bar. We ended up eating little protein that week which eventually leaded to fatigue and lightheartedness because most of our diet consisted of salad and pasta. When my friend finally had enough of the camp and was getting homesick, he only had one simple request. This request was to have a supervised phone call to his mom. After hours of crying, he finally gave up, with the compromise that the head woman would call his parents. We all suspected that she would leave all of the fact that he was lightheaded from not eating and the fact that there were ants in our cabin. This was confirmed when we asked his mother what the head leader said and she said he was crying about homesickness and did not mention anything else. The last thing I want to mention is the cleanliness of the camp. I left camp speers with a very severe case of impetigo that could only finally be treated when I went to a dermatologist. This was caused by the lifejackets, as the spots were exactly where the lifejacket rested on me. The least they could do is spray them with a hose every night. Instead they let them sit in a garage letting infection grow on them. No child should have to go through a camp like camp speers. This is based on opinion and your child might have fun but in my opinion the only good thing about the camp was the friends met along the way like Philip.

This will be my son's 3rd year at Camp Bernie, and my daughter's 2nd. He will be a CIT this year…read more My husband also went when he was a child. Both kids love the camp and have made many new friends there, and have no complaints about it at all. It's a very basic Y camp so not a ton of bells and whistles, but they keep the kids occupied and having fun, and that's really all that counts.

My daughter says she enjoyed this camp however there are several incidents that I can't brush off…read more I got an email about a camp staffer who inappropriately touch a camper. I was glad to be informed however it's freighting to get a email like that while your child is staying at a sleep away camp and you can't call them. This camp's staff lacks training in supervision and emotional development. My daughter behaved in a way that was out of character and I believe it has to do with the environment. When a classroom is out of control it's because the teacher does not have control of the classroom. They could implement more exercises related to emotional development and respect for humans. Lastly there staff... I was waiting for someone to assist me with making a payment online and I never got a call back until a month later where a staff member called me harassing me for payment and said no one was supposed to call me. She was so rude to me. I was treated disrespectfully she literally muted my voice when I asked for assistance and when I emailed the director Julie she passively said "I'm sorry there tone came off that way" and directed me to make a payment in a different format that we initially agreed on. This is a massive organization that receives billions of dollars and is well funded to assist specifically single low income households like mine. There mission statement says they help people yet they have staff that are unhelpful and treat people indecently which says a lot about there organization. They're mission statement needs to be changed to "we don't respect people we just make sure we get paid"

Safety was the first priority, but so was enrichment, A setting where she would be challenged, and would continue to grow academically and socially. I wanted her to be engaged and challenged. TLE provides all that and more. Their child centered curriculum is motivating and fun for kids. Most importantly, it is kid appropriate. It includes technology based but also workbook centered and hands on experiences. They even added a musical component to their curriculum. Everything is taught with fun, relatable characters that continues to each grade level for a thematic approach. Also, this school is spotless. Every time I enter that school, it just smells clean. It is obvious that things are routinely sanitized. In times, like these, cleanliness is key. In each other the 3 rooms my daughter has been in, toys are organized and labeled. Everything has its place. As a bonus, my daughter is taught to always put away toys/activities when she is done playing. Also, the owner, Jo-Ann, the director, Amanda and the assistant director, Christina are just really wonderful people. They are kind, warm and welcoming. They are effective at not only making each family/child feel welcome, but also in running an organized, efficient school. Any and all of my questions are always addressed with patience and real solutions. The teachers there also have greatly influenced my daughter. Two in particular, Ms. Cheyenne and Ms. Olivia, really influenced her. She looked forward to seeing them because they truly took the time to not only make her feel special, but also to provide consistent guidance and educational support. Finally, TLE has a lot of philanthropic endeavors. They raise awareness about both health and social issues that effect our community as well as the world. From food drives, book collections, healthy heart awareness and even holiday gifts for families in need, this school teaches children to give back. This is a very important concept that both myself and my husband teach our daughter about. It is wonderful to have her school do the same. After all, in a world where you can be anything, we should really all be kind. I can not say enough nice things about the school and the actual company Itself. I looked at over 5 different daycares in our area before registering here. I did the random drop inns, asked the important questions and really observed what was going on before selecting a school. If you want a place for your child to stay safe, continue to grow and be challenged academically, TLE is the school for your family's daycare needs.
