Dave and Kyle were so sweet and worked to get me the right car. He had received a fleet of brand new Highlanders that afternoon and hadn't even set them all up for rental. I really needed a hitch for my bike rack and he and Kyle got it ready to rent for me. Not to mention, Dave has a huge, funny, and warm personality. I couldn't be more grateful. I would highly think twice about renting from any Penske location…read more I booked and prepaid weeks in advance for a 9:30 pickup of truck and car carrier. The 800 number I called took excellent care of me. I received several calls to confirm, the last one the night before. On the day of pickup I was called 45 min before pickup to advise me that the location of pickup will not have the truck and carrier until 11:00. The truck and carrier did not arrive until 1:00, checking out at 2:00. I now have to pay 4 workers for waiting 4 hours which is $400 out of my pocket. My 9:30 schedule would of let us leave by 1:30 but now its 2:30 and the crew that was coming to clean the apartment and get it ready for final inspection is there and they cannot do it because we just started packing the truck. The cleaning crew has a schedule and in order for them to come back and try and fit me in, they want me to ask for an extra day through my management and add $150 rescheduling fee, additional money out of my pocket based on Penske's delay. Truck is loaded by 6:30 and now we just need to load the car carrier. Go figure, the only thing inspected on the carrier was the fenders, and the hitch is broken and highly unsafe . I Call the 24 hour roadside service and I am told it will be 2-2.5 hours for new carrier to arrive. Now I need to find a guy to help load my car on carrier as my previous helpers are exhausted ( upstairs move) So 3 hr min to get a guy, so an additional $60 I must pay due to penske's error of not inspecting the hitch at time of hookup, and at the pickup point. It's now 10 pm and my driver and myself are in no shape to drive because we are exhausted and I prefer daytime driving. I can't afford to put out any more money so the only place we have to rest is on the floor of my Empty Apartment. Not a good thing for me as I need double hip replacement surgery or my driver but that's all we could do. Now we are a whole day behind, I had people schedule to unload and they have a 2 hour minimum 2 guys at $25 an hour so that is another $100 out of my pocket due to penske's delays. My driver has another driving job but cannot make it now that we are a day behind. He lost the job and requires pay at time and a half for the extra day my move went over. Another $450 out of my pocket for penske's errors. I had to contact penske to ask for compensation and was told they would only deduct the truck rent, $595.00, and I am just out my money I had to pay out due to their errors. Well I should not have to put out one dime. I should not have to sleep on the floor because of penske's errors. BOTTOM LINE: Of course the rental should be free, what an inconvenience I had to deal with, and no one from Penske called me until 5 days later. Very poor customer service, and to say I have to "eat " the money I had to put out due to their delay, and then providing me with unsafe equipment. I will never refer Penske to anyone. I mean they confirmed the night before then 45 minutes before pickup I am notified of a delay. Don't tell me the location did not know they did not have what I paid and reserved the night before? The fair and only correct customer satisfaction is to of course comp the truck rental, return that money to my credit card and pay for all the expenses I had to pay out of my pocket due to Penske's wrong doings. Very poor customer service, and questionable safety practices.

Originally, I had rezzies to rent from U-Haul, but after reading an article in the LA Times about…read moretheir unreliable maintenance and safety standards, I ended up booking with Budget, especially since it ended up being cheaper with a 10% discount from moving.com. Now, I regret it. Reservation Problems I first made reservations online with the 10% discount from moving.com. But, since I never received an email confirmation, I called the customer service number to confirm my reservations. Good thing, because they had no record of my online reservation. The customer service rep was quick and efficient. He said I'd receive a confirmation email, but I didn't get nothing for over a week. So, I had to call AGAIN, at which point my reservation was confirmed, even though I never received any email confirmation. Super SLOW Pick-Up Pick up in Davis, CA was horribly slow. Although I can't say exactly how long, I would estimate about 1/2 hour. Plus, the guy made horrible, dry humor jokes that just weren't funny at 10 am. Actually, they wouldn't be funny at any time of the day. As for the truck itself, it was just fine. Drop Off Nightmare Drop off was a big headache. I was scheduled to drop off in Millbrae, but I saw a closer drop off in Pacifica. I had to call everywhere to change my drop off to Pacifica. First, I called the Davis office. He said I had to call the main number to change. I called them and they told me that I had to call where I was going to drop off. I called the drop off place in Millbrae and they told me I had to call the pick up place! So, I called him back and he changed it begrudgingly. I doubt I'll need a rental truck again, but if I do. I might have to rent Penske since U-Haul is apparently dangerous and Budget made me super cranky!
