Horrible experience. Bought camera lense for my son and salesman knew it was for Christmas. No warranty information on receipt and salesman did not advise of one. Son tried another friends lense and did not like it. When I went to return, tried to explain what happened. Owner's response: you missed the 2 week warranty return policy. It's not my problem. I rarely like to write bad reviews because I try to give the business the benefit of the doubt and assume good intent. However, the customer service was so appallingly bad at the Camera Shop, I need to say something. As several reviewers mentioned, it's hit or miss depending on who you get. Two of the gentlemen I spoke with and one of the women were accommodating and thoughtful. Two women, however, were unconscionably rude and unfriendly. I came in with a printing job and had a handful of basic questions which were answered grudgingly. They want all orders to come directly through their online platform which is fine, but it's clear they'd rather you simply use the website to answer all your questions and come to the shop only to pick up orders. When I did pick my order up, a different woman behind the counter spoke quite rudely to me. There wasn't even an attempt at courtesy, just rudeness and blatantly wanting me to feel unwelcome. I want to stress that not all the staff are like this. They can be helpful, friendly and thoughtful toward their customers. But these two individuals soured me on the Camera Shop for good. My go to spot for any new camera gear! I have been there many times and have yet to have a poor experience. - The guys in there are welcoming and so knowledgeable. They take the time you really answer any questions you might have and find exactly what you need for your situation. I have never felt like I was being scammed - I have also compared prices against larger companies like B&H and its totally comparable. When I am making a big purchase I like to be able to touch, feel and see the product and walk out with it that day, so having the brick and mortar store is very convenient. Parking isn't too bad, there is the street right next to the store that has meeter parking if you don't want to park in the few spots right out front. The camera shop has awesome costumer service and great products in stock. 10/10 would recommend! read more

I purchased a camera for my wife for Christmas. I was told that it could be returned, but would be charged a $70. restocking fee. My wife just tried to return the camera with all accessories and the receipt and were told they would only give us 1/3 of our money Back. She then offered to exchange the camera for another and they would still only give 1/3 of the value. On top of that, the manager was so condescending that she thought she was being pranked. I LOVE having a real camera/printing shop in the area. And I want to support local businesses. I went in to have photos printed; the lady that waited on me was impatient, irritable and clearly not interested in helping me get the product that I wanted, which I did not. When I went to pick up the photos, she was rude. This business is on the expensive side, which is fine if the service and product is valuable. In this case, it was very disappointing. We were in the store getting a passport photo for our daughter when we spied a 1950's vintage Zeiss camera. It was on a table with other relics they were trying to get rid of, but to us it was an exciting find, especially since it was only $25. As a result of this camera, we have been learning about an entire new world we did not know existed. We bought some film for the camera and off we went without knowing the first thing about concepts like exposure value, F setting, shutter speed, film speed, and their relationships. The amazing thing is that most of the photographs came out very nicely in spite of our profound ignorance. Yes. The store is a little pricey as many other reviewers have noted, but it cannot be easy running a camera shop in these days of the internet. Accidentally or not, they turned me on to a really satisfying hobby and art form. For this, I am grateful and happy to give them 4 stars. read more

This place is only concerned about one thing..............getting your money!!!! Had a situation where we felt the lens we had with the systems we purchased were not pairing up well and also have viewed some review videos concerning this matter. When we called this shop, we were basically told in a nut shell; "Hey look we don't have time to look into this, its christmas time and we are busy.".......... Yep busy.....this is their rebuttal to customers....... when they spend over $5k in their store no less........ I have seen better customer service and client relations in third world countries. Allens Camera north of philadelphia, although they are far to travel to for us, will get ALL of our local business as they actually value and care about their customers, whether they are spending $4 or $5,000. Terrible shop. Overpriced, no parking, and a coin toss on customer service depending on who you get. Closed on Sundays, and their hours suck. Open 10-6, so you can't get things done on the way to work or after. So you are left with only Saturday to accomplish anything. The Camera Shop gets 1 star for the tall guy who gave me my money back for poorly executed passport photos. Their website clearly says they do international passport photos. Since my Dutch passport was due for renewal, I gave them a call to verify the information posted on their website. The guy on the phone confirmed. I walked in a few days later. The guy who took my photo double checked the requirements for Dutch passport photos. He said it was $60 for 4 photos, which I thought was extremely expensive, but I needed the photos and so I agreed. The next day I picked up the photos (they said it's usually the next day pick up). When I got back to my car I checked the photos and thought, "Hmm, something's really off!" I couldn't really put my finger on it, but to me it seemed I had never had a passport photo like this before. I went back in and asked the guy if they were really going to be accepted, as I had my doubts. This middle-aged guy, grey hair, not too tall and muscular, was not too interested in my concern and assured me they would be fine and accepted by my consulate. A few days later... I drive from Philly to NYC to renew my passport. The lady at the counter says my head on the photo is way too small. She checks with 2 of her colleagues, who agree. I'm sent to a photo shop down the street to have new photos made. This tiny shop charged me $15 for 2 photos, meaning The Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr is twice as expensive! The quality of the photos of this NYC tiny shop were way better. A few days later again... I want my money back for 4 passport photos that I can't use for anything. My husband offers to come with me. The same middle-aged, grey haired guy who couldn't care less about my concern was there. We explained the situation; however, he just kept on coming up with excuses to not give us our money back. He made it seem as if it was my own fault! It came to the point where me and my husband raised our voices, clearly letting other customers in the shop know we were angry and didn't agree with this business' customer service. It took about 15 minutes of arguing about something that seemed so obvious, before a tall guy came out from the back, asking us for the photos and immediately taking us to the counter to arrange a refund. We were thankful someone finally helped us! My advice to this shop: do not advertise a service if you're not sure you can deliver. If you make a mistake, acknowledge it and offer a refund. It's totally OK to fuck up, it's not OK to pretend that you didn't. Yes, it's really that simple! My advice to customers: take your money elsewhere. This shop is hopeless! read more

OK, So I order 2 prints from the camera shop and need them by the AM the following day. Prices per print are high to begin with but I was told they do good work in the lab. I order 2 prints to test them for possible more orders in the future. After I receive the order confirmation online, it states that prints are available the next day. I need these two prints in the AM at the latest the next day.so I send an email asking if I could pick them up later in the day....no response. I call and am told that there will be a surcharge which nearly doubles the cost per print (which is already high), and that the prints won't be ready until 4 pm the following day. I ask if they could be done earlier without the surcharge and get a no from the person on the phone. They obviously have more business than they can handle, so I will look elsewhere.... read more

Like most people today I buy a good bit of stuff on line or in the big box stores. It is so nice to be able to actually walk into a well stocked store, actually touch something before you buy it, and talk to a knowledgeable sales person who knows his stuff. There aren't many small specialty stores left these days. I go out of my way to visit The Camera Store to buy or just to chat with true staff. As much as I'm looking forward to Drone deliveries by Amazon and staff less fast food, it is nice to deal with a real human when you are looking for advice on an expensive purchase. read more

All staff members are exceptionally helpful and I found that they have a wealth of information. Also, they have classes to get you started if you are starting new hobby in photography, as I am. Uncertain why other consumers are offering a 1 star rating when clearly, this is a five star establishment. Went here last week to check out the Nikon D850 and Z7. After talking to one of the guys working there ended up purchasing the Z7 after he better fit the camera to my needs and lifestyle. Wanting to use it for landscape and portrait photography. He was so knowledgeable and so helpful and understood my needs. I don't like purchasing cameras and equipment online because I want to be able to see, hold, and test them. Even during Covid they were still able to do just that. Ended up purchasing it today and not only was he great with his customer service but also as a salesman. Will definitely be back again. Are you serious with your prices???!!! My girlfriend and I recently got engaged in NYC and afterwards we went to dinner and the waiter made a huge deal of it. He took two photographs and had them printed out right there on the spot. We wanted to have copies made and came here. They were going to charge $10 just to scan it, and $3 for each copy made. Anyone that needs photos copied just go to Target or Walmart. No wonder places like that go out of business. Can't wait to drive by and see another bank or McDonald's. read more

So I tried to get a deal on a camera from Dell, but they put it on back order, and I need a new camera in time for a friends wedding in 2 weeks. I looked everywhere I could think of, and no online stores could get the camera to me in time, and no brick and mortar seemed to carry it. I was planning on stopping in here because I've been buying most of my film from here for years. So on a whim, I decided to check if they had the camera I was looking for, which they did. I popped in one day to make sure they had one in stock, and to actually play with the camera. I didn't have to wait long for a salesperson, and despite there being a few people in the store, felt like I was getting his undivided attention. I never felt like I was being pressured into buying this rather expensive camera, and he was honest about its features and limitations, which I already knew from online research. I told him I needed to make sure I could cancel my online order, and sleep on it. The next day really sealed the deal, as he recognised me as soon as I walked in the door, and came right over. I also picked up some film, which to be honest is a little pricier than some of the online deals, but I'd rather not ship film. I will definitely be back here for other photo needs. read more

Way overpriced on developing. When I realized that the pictures picked up were printed without borders, I had to drive back to correct. In that time I realized how overpriced they were. I didn't check the price when I ordered the prints, I didn't expect 3x the price of a highly reputed downtown photolab. I requested less prints, just to cover my immediate need, but counterperson insisted that the order could not be changed. I then had to wait for the prints to be developed. I asked what was done with the incorrect order and I was told they were shredded. I then asked if I could take the non bordered prints (order was for borders), as they could be used. The (by then, not very nice) lady said she couldn't do that ( but she could make me wait for the correctly done prints). Mainline prices for subpar service. read more

While the photo developing is a little on the pricey side (though well priced for professional photographers), the service at this place couldn't be better. They're SO nice and helpful. My pictures always come out beautifully, and they also have a great custom framing department. I had some film that was stuck in my point and shoot 38 mm camera and needed help getting it removed. I had already opened the camera and was aware that the film had been exposed but my main concern was just getting it out so I could continue to use the camera. I went over to the film developing area and the woman who helped me was the worst human being I have ever interacted with. Not only did she say "oh well you just exposed your film so it useless" before I could even begin to explain my issue but was overtly rude to me and other customers. It was as if she had not realized her job in CUSTOMER SERVICE was to be helping people. I have honestly never had someone be that disgusted with the fact that they have to serve a customer. This was my first time at this establishment and I will not be going back, I would rather trek over to Fishtown and get my film developed than have to deal with that woman. Very disappointing. After purchasing several cameras, lights, backgrounds, and other equipment, one piece of equipment purchased from The Camera Shop was broken. When I went to get the item repaired at The Camera Shop,the salesman took a quick look at their computer and told me that nothing could be done about it---no repair, no return with credit, no discount on a replacement. A personal search on my home computer found a replacement part available. The shop is very near my home, but now I will find myself driving a distance for any camera related products. The Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr was not customer friendly. In fact, they told me to go to CVS rather than help me! Whatever happened to the customer is always right? I ordered on-line last night some prints of my daughter's wedding photo but mistakenly sent the unedited photo. Realizing my mistake I was unable to cancel it on their website. So I called at 10 a.m. as soon as the shop opened the next day but was they could not help me. Amazingly, they told me I should go to CVS in the future. Wow! Prices for kiosk printed photos are near triple the price. No help at the kiosk unless you pay $25.00 for twenty minutes. Everything is an extra charge and three times more then other places. Young lady at the counter told me if I don't like their prices "go elsewhere". Won't be long till this camera shop closes. My advice to anyone is use another service. read more

I thought I had a serious problem with my Nikon D7000 that I bought from them last year--naturally, it was out of warranty and I was worried. They diagnosed the problem immediately (major, stupid operator error), showed me the mis-setting and how it should be set and how to properly read the LCD screen. And didn't laugh at me, even once.
