I was not familiar with the gallery other than knowing that they have a location in Rittenhouse Sq. & an auction house on Spring Garden St. Their emphasis leans towards Warhol, Basquiat, & other pop/contemporary artists. The Beatles pieces consisted of John Lennon's line doodlings & Bag One works, Ringo Starr's pop art influenced works, & Paul McCartney's paintings. Stuart Sutcliffe, Linda McCartney, Ron Campbell, & Al Hirschfeld also had pieces in the show. I was thrilled to see a Stuart Sutcliffe on display. His line reminded me of John's drawings. So obvious that John was inspired by Stuart. Seeing Campbell's earlier cutesy animated Beatles art juxtaposed with the Yellow Submarine, Peter Max-like stylings were startling in a way. So check this exhibit out if you can. John Lennon's art might be the most familiar, if you've seen it at other rock art shows or reproduced in his bios. Still, it's the rare chance to see his art & other Beatles & Beatles-related art in person.
