My family and I tried to get dinner at another local pizza place in town, but the wait on 4th of July weekend was going to be an hour+. I heard the owner tell someone else about Cameo Pizza nearby, so that's where we ended up after a quick phone call to confirm they were open. They even said they had seating available for our party of six. We were indeed seated right away and our server was great. We started with an order of the sauerkraut balls, which were amazing - like a reuben in deep fried form. They had bits of meat and cheese inside, and came with a thousand island type dipping sauce. I would order these just for myself next time! Luckily most of our group weren't interested in them, so I didn't have to share with too many people. Nate and I ordered a Cameo Special to split (onion, green peppers, sausage, mushrooms, pepperoni). I liked that you could get your pizza in a variety of sizes: 7in baby, 9in small, 12in medium, or 15in large. The medium was a great size for us as we were pretty hungry. The crust was thin and the pizza was cut into strips (like breadsticks), which was fun and interesting. The toppings were all fresh and the amount was generous! No skimping here. The sauce wasn't overly sweet, and the crust was the perfect thickness. Very solid pizza, and it's now on my go-to list while visiting Cedar Point.

All mushroom and onions, half sausage, half pepperoni. Yum yum.

Cameo pizza has been a staple of Sandusky since 1936 and a staple for my family for decades. The location is near downtown Sandusky and is worth a stop if you are visiting Put in bay or cedar point. The staff is always pleasant, with some being members of the owning family. They all take pride in their service. The main event is the pizza. This isn't Chicago style. It's not New York thin. It's cameo buttery medium thick deliciousness. It's unique and it's a must eat if you like pizza. Go ahead. Try cameo pizza. I said so. And I'm never wrong about food :)

I'm giving this place 2 stars for the fact that the pizza was very good and the man who took my order was lovely. However, my delivery experience was quite disappointing. First, the pizza was delivered as shown in the picture... Second, I ordered (and was charged) for dipping sauce, and before I even asked, the delivery guy said the sauce was in the box. So I tipped the guy nicely and he left. Then when I opened the box, I noticed the sauces were missing, but I was able to catch him while he was getting in his car. He offered to run back to the store no problem and said he'd be back in 10 minutes. (Typically Id say don't worry about it, but he insisted!) Then after almost 30 minutes of waiting... I called the store and received no answer. I understand Friday night pizza delivery can be crazy, but I don't think it's right to lie to a customer. I took the hotels recommendation on this one, and was unfortunately let down.

First time trying this place, pizza was amazing. Definitely will order again. Delivery was right on time as expected.

Something about this oven, magic comes out of every pie it puts out. Don't get crazy with toppings, keep it simple and eat slow.

Good tasting pizza. Had take out. Would have liked to hang out a while. Lots of tv's. Not used to the strip slicing though.

Good pizza and interesting sour kraut balls. Enjoyed the food and back patio. Service was less than cordial but the food was very good.

( Now for the other side of the story). Going back to the time when I was born (in Ireland, but this story began in another part of Europe) In the 1950's outside of Athens, Greece when a family traveled from there to the United States in search of a better life. The mother found comfort in a foreign land while working as a baker, hand-making the recipes she brought with her. She passed these recipes on, with love. Another begins in the 1980's on the Italian island of Sardinia when a young man in the U.S. Navy, met a local girl & brought her back to the United States to raise their family. She keeps in touch with her family & her homeland by importing the food products she grew up loving. Their stories eventually intertwine through a marriage. For one the double meat used to be like $2 but why on earth would someone just want to pay more for double meat when they could just buy another one and clean out the wrap into the other!? Shady business practice for sure...

We came during peak dinner hours and waited ~20 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad. The place isn't too large, and given how good the food is, I can see why there could be a wait. We decided on the jalapeno poppers (June special), onion rings, lemon pepper wings, and two burgers with fries (BBQ ranch jalapeno burger - June special, Hot N' Spicy burger) all to share. Plenty of food for 2 adults and 2 kids to share! We all agreed everything was delicious. The poppers come out super hot, so definitely wait a little to bite into them. Onion rings perfectly cooked and crispy. Wings were plump and had good lemon flavor to them. Both burgers were juicy, but of the two enjoyed the Hot N' Spicy more. Service is friendly and attentive. Parking is available in a small lot directly next to the restaurant or along the street.

She let us know what they were known for (wings and burgers and their rotating specials) and gave my indecisive mind plenty of time to figure out what I wanted. Everything sounded so good! We settled for the golden bbq wings and classic pretzel bites for appetizers. The wings were great and that sauce was delicious! Wish we could find something similar in Seattle. The pretzel bites were good but we were already getting full. He got the Uncle Charlie burger which he liked but said it was a bit messy. He also said the maple sauce on it was unique and a little overpowering. I built my own burger and kept it simple with mayo, lettuce, grilled onions and cheddar. It was really good but I wish I didn't get so full on appetizers so I could finish it. I really liked the pickles that they served as a garnish. A little sweet and spicy action going on. Also the fries are hot and crispy and some of my favorite I've had anywhere. I wish this gem was in Seattle. It seems like a great place to grab a seat at the bar and watch sports on their televisions. They also have some tables available if you want to sit there too. I also liked that one of the tv's showed pictures of their specials. I wish I could go back and try some of their other items. The wraps and sandwiches looked really tasty and I love the uniqueness of some of their combos. If you're in the area and want some delicious food served with a friendly smile, stop in. You won't be disappointed.
