Alright, I have a slightly different review of this mall because I worked there for like eight years of my life and have seen it evolve (umm... devolve?) in that time. Here is a brief history of what I remember having happened in eight years: -- not one, not two, not three, but FOUR shootings (and one stabbing). Thankfully, I think those four shootings only resulted in one death, but STILL! -- a guy committed suicide right outside my store. Yep, he jumped from the third floor down to the first floor. Unfortunately, he wasn't the brightest of bulbs and jumped near the elevator, resulting in his hitting several guard rails and a garbage can on the way down. Ouch. -- a blown ear drum from the number of pulled fire alarms. The employees got so fazed that we just went about our work even though lights and alarms were blaring from all corners of the store and mall. However, in its defense, it has manage to "class up" a little by opening some good stores -- Sephora and Black House White Market to name a few. The ghetto image of the mall is taking a turn for the better I see. The restaurant choices are poor -- with the recent closing of Papa Razzi, all that's left is Cheesecake Factory (the better option, but there's almost always a wait) and California Pizza Kitchen (gave my friend food poisoning once. Yuck!). Food Court is OK, but not great. Good if I'm in a pinch or craving chicken teriyaki. read more

I don't consider myself a "mall goer" or a mall connoisseur by any means, so given that caveat take this review for what you will. Overall, Cambridgeside has a fair selection of shops and food establishments. All the standards are there with the added bonus of a TJ Maxx, which sets my cheap skate heart a flutter. As an aside, if you google "heart a flutter" it results in atrial flutter.... sounds like something I should get checked out. Last time I visited Cambridgeside (mid-June), Victoria's Secret was closed for remodeling, however, the website assures me that it is now open. I'm sure updates of this kind are constantly posted on the website, so maybe a quick peak before making the trek. Does that count as a pro-tip? I think we can handle a visit to the mall and don't need my less than expert advise in this arena. Moving on to my favorite part about the Cambridgeside Galleria, its awesome view of the Charles. The food court overlooks a little inlet which makes eating fast food dare I say, romantic? You can thank me latter for your less than $10 anniversary date. I can't believe this place has gotten so many one star reviews! I have a special place in my heart for the Galleria, mostly because of the infamous "Chicken Walk". What is the Chicken Walk? Well, at lunch time, go to the food court and walk by each counter slowly. Every single restaurant has a person who hands out samples of chicken on toothpicks: Indian, Chinese, Japanese, BBQ, you name it. Pretend you're reading the menu, and they usually offer you seconds. Go slow enough around the entire court, and you can go for seconds at each counter. Voila! Free lunch. read more

I am not a mall girl. Perhaps in my younger, grunge/ flannel years, I may have frequented a mall or two....or three or four....I digress...back to the point....I hate malls....they (and starbucks) are the piazzas of America and it makes me sad and somewhat disturbed. Yet there is something truly appealing about one-stop-shopping.....I mean, people can LIVE in malls and find everything they would ever need to survive...minus sunlight and normal human interaction, but that is besides the point..... What is my point here anyway? I really don't have one... but I must say, a little mall never hurt anyone and I can definitely handle mall shopping once in a blue moon. If I believed that a mall could possibly warrant a 5 star rating, I might be tempted to give this mall 5 stars. But alas, I am not of that mind. Malls are generally places I do not like. For so many reasons. Crowded, same food at all malls, ugly people, overpriced shit, certain kiosks that employ really annoying marketing/selling methods while trying to get your attention across the mall... But the Cambridgeside Galleria is more than a cut above the rest. And the poeple are resonably attractive. I'm not looksist - really I'm not - regular people are fine as are quirky looking poeple and there's always some beautiful people... but when the ugly people all congregate in one place, it becomes overwhelming to witness. My east coast bestie was fantically shopping for everything for her (third) wedding on the following day. So she stopped in Sephora and droppd a ton of cash. A nice shop but makeup is boring as hell to me. So I ran over to Claire's to find cheap earrings for her wedding outfit. Not as cheap as I remember it, but still kinda fun. The TJ maxx is rather upscale but didn't have what we needed. Then she decided to stop and get one of those cat's cradle eye treatment where they tweeze them out with a string. I watched in amazement still unsure how it was possible. That was only $12. A stop at Starbucks and we're done. The fact that there's a Best Buy is huge. The fact that parking is easy(ish) and affordable is huge. And as long as they don't aggressively try to sell, I generally enjoy the kiosks. There could be a few more affordable stores. People are attractive and diverse. On a Friday afternoon, it wasn't too crowded. But if you go to a mall in the 2nd half of december - you have only yourself blame. I can't believe they closed the DMV express - that sucks. But overall, one of the few malls I actually like. read more

I used to go to this mall a lot when I was at Brandeis since it was only a short T ride away after you got off the commuter rail at North Station (oh the days when the commuter rail was cheaper...). They had a "Student Bucks" program that offered discounts too. I think that's all over now but this is still a nice mall. It pretty much has everything (even an H&M) you could possible want and the price for parking really isn't as bad as you might think (on the weekends it's only $3.99 for up to 10 hours. Go check the website for more prices on weekdays). As mentioned previously, they have a lot of the regular stores you'd have to walk all over Newbury Street and Copley for. One stop shopping is the name of the game. If you live in Brighton or Allston I think it is a HUGE pain taking the T so I would recommend driving if at all possible. I feel like this mall is out dated and I'd much prefer to go to bigger and better malls like South Shore or Natick. It's really easy to get to on the MBTA which makes this mall super convenient. Love this place! Love everything about it! What I like most of all is that little photo booth, where I can climb in and get my picture (four pics in one session) taken without any contact with human beings. This allows me to make all the funny faces I like, and no one will know or care. I don't know many places in Greater Boston area where you can get your pic taken without human intervention. When I was in high school, the Cambridgeside Galleria was the height of teen cool. This was the ultimate destination for buying illicit cosmetics at CVS, picking up 3 for $10 t-shirts at Rave (never mind that the dye would bleed all over your other clothes), and dining on orange chicken from Panda Express. I'm an adult now and the Galleria has become my idea of a hell on earth. You can't walk from one end of the mall to the other without weaving around crowds of teenagers and intermittent assaults by kiosk workers wanting to flat iron your hair. The store selection is extensive, but seems to favor low-end stores. They might have a Spencer's Gifts in here, y'all. Basically, the present-day version of my teenage self ruins the Galleria for me. Malls generally are terrible, and this is your generic mall. It's the same stores with the same products that are in malls across the country. Totally generic. Skip it. If you're looking for anything interesting, you're better off shopping in Back Bay, Harvard Square, Inman Square, Davis Square, etc. read more

I hate malls...and this is one of my least favorites. Even though I enjoy some of the stores like Thom Brown, Borders, J Crew and the Apple Store, I never have a successful shopping experience because as soon as I enter the parking garage, all the life is sucked out of me. Maybe it's all the stinky carbon monoxide from allllllll the hundreds of cars. Especially during the holidays. There is a pretty good selection of stores here, but it's high end by no means. If you're looking for that go to Copley. If you can overcome the will-zapping forces that seemingly float in the air here, you'll probably have a great shopping experience. This place is pretty amazing. Not only is it in a great location, with plenty of parking and across from the Charles River (incase you're looking for a place to park and you want to explore), but it has every store you'd ever need. Even better, many stores (like Best Buy) have curbside pickup, so you can park for 10 minutes on the street and run in to get what you want, rather than paying for the parking garage. I haven't even been able to explore this entire place yet even though I've been several times, but it's gigantic, has an apple store, a dunkin donuts (and starbucks) and every clothing store you can imagine. If you're staying at the Royal Sonesta, it's literally across the street. So if you're in town for business, you don't even need to pack, just buy a few outfits once you get to the hotel! read more

The Gangsteria Mall. Only a few blocks from me so when I need to go to Best Buy or something you're useful. If I'm wearing my bulletproof jacket. Okay, so its rep isn't really earned. Whatever. You're T accessible to those who don't live in EC. I remember when they built you. Weird. I don't know how you really rate a mall- the stores are usually the same aren't they? Macy's, Sears, Best Buy as staples? Or something on par like swap Sears for Kohl's or something. I don't know, all I know is you've got what I need usually and I can walk to you. And, if I feel like risking food borne illness and turf warfare in the Food Court, the Japanese place gives out more free terriyaki chicken samples in a day then they sell in a month I think. Fact: My friend used to work at the Brookstone here and it was reported to me that the number of "massagers" that got returned with pubes clinging to them is apparently staggering. Fact: This mall must have some sort of curse placed on it (Indian burial ground, perchance?) because I swear there isn't a happy person in the place. Employees, patrons, anyone. This also translates into rudeness; there are some really nasty people here and I'm not even talking about the OG-gangstas rockin' 9's snackin' on their free terriyaki chicken 3-star? I underestimated the appeal of this mall. There are lots of stores, with lots of unexpected sales :) and... the help yourself, mix and match candy shoveling area is the best around. I was the teenager who hated the local mall. I am now the 20-something that hates the local mall. I like the variety of stores in the Cambridgeside, but I'm used to more upscale shopping experiences when it comes to mall. No Nordstroms, no Ross Simon, no Lush. I don't like malls for practicality, though I did buy an array of undergarments and sweatpants (thanks, Old Navy!) for our household. The mall looses points for the fact that I didn't find a pair of boots there.....nothing fit right or was hip enough. I do like that the food court has a Big Easy; I can't resist some bourbon chicken. Also awesome, I like that there's a Dunkin' Donuts, and also and H&M. read more

When snowmageddon hits? Where do you turn? The mall!!!?? Maybe, only if you can't find any parking on the streets. If you are a Cambridge resident (and have the parking sticker to prove it) you can park here during a snow emergency/parking ban. For FREEE-ZEEE! That's right. Gratis, no money changing hands. It's pissah. I've taken advantage of it numerous times! Just remember to get your car within 2 hours of the parking ban being lifted, otherwise you will def. pay for your tardiness. The mall as a whole is a strange mix of ever-changing little storefronts, and big box stores that have swallowed up much of the business, with the shiny, flashy less expensive things they sell. This place is usually not all that busy, sometimes (only REALLY when you get near the holidays, or when it's a tax-free weekend) it's a shit show, but it's usually bearable. read more

This mall is weak. I come from North Jersey where I live close to like 10 malls within a 5-mile radius. Actually, all the malls and shopping outlets I've been to in the Boston area are weak. But let me keep my focus on this mall. The only good thing about this mall is the H&M. But even the H&M isn't even that good. Where's the men's section that you always see in H&M's? The Macy's is also weak. You just don't get the same type of selection as you would around the Park Street Macy's. The only two restaurants at this mall are California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) and Cheesecake Factory. Other than that, you have to opt for food court food. And that's always good for you. Yup. The parking garage.... what's so great about the parking garage? Again, let me emphasize. I'm from NJ, so parking at the mall is free. Everytime I go here I feel rushed to shop because I don't want to waste time dilly dallying around here because I'm paying by the hour. If you do take the T to get to this mall, please note that the green line isn't the only way to get here. There is a shuttle that runs from the Kendall Street stop on the red line to the part of the mall near the CPK and Cheesecake Factory. Now that's pretty sweet. But I am a commuter and it is most convenient for me to drive (I'd rather not though). Again, thumbs up for hosing the only H&M in Cambridge. read more

The pro's definitely outweight the con's on the Cambridgeside Galleria. For me, the big pro of this mall is that it is in walking distance from my house. Generally speaking, there's a broad cross-section of stores, considering the size of the mall. Stores include J Crew, Banana Republic, H&M on the apparel side. From an electronics perspective, there's a Best Buy and an Apple store. While all Apple stores are crowded, I find it less crowded than Boylston St, albeit much smaller. Finally, there's also a decent-sized Sephora store there as well. I did lament the demise of the Barnes and Noble there (I'm slow to adapt to the Kindle), but the arrival of a TJ Maxx lessens the blow. The food court can be a bit of a circus, though I have been known to go to the Middle Eastern restaurant, Sepal. The options there are pretty tasty! Parking there tends to be quite easy. Rates start at $1.99, which I feel isn't too bad. Additionally, it's a short walk from the Lechmere T stop. Overall, it's a perfectly fine option for shopping, though if you are looking for higher-end retailers, one must venture to the Pru/Copley in order to accomplish that. read more

Decent mall, but not the best in the area. It's size is limited because of it's location and there is virtually no free parking. A bit more "upscale" than the Square One, here you'll find some stores like Bebe and Guess! that are more expensive than your average GAP or Old Navy. The Cambridgeside Galleria wasn't to bad. It has some good stores! Its a good size but small when you compare it to the other malls in its area. Now we ended up walking the whole mall in a few hours. They do offer a ton of stores here such as footlocker, AEO, Old Navy, and the Apple store! Plus every cell phone company you can think of! They also offer a California Pizza! So if your hungry take a look at that place! I also did a review of that location. Its great! The mall hours are not to bad either. We went around 6:00pm and we didn't go home until 9:00ish. This was also my first time in the mall. This location offers great access to anyone who may be using the Boston T! Parking with a car on the other hand was a bit painful. I ended up parking down a few blocks at another shopping plaza. The parking garage was small and just didn't have the space...Plus if you plan to shop there why pay to park? Seems kinda dumb to me. I know some malls offer this. I just cant agree with it. So park out on the street or just T in! Over all its ok. Its easy to get too and for anyone on the T its a good visit if you don't wanna go to Comply! read more

Appreciate the garage here, but a mall is a mall is a mall. It's like going back in time to the 90s when you step in. Restaurants are all chains, typical shops, apple store and a sephora which were why I was dropping by. A little confusing to find your way around, but they have maps posted all around, so not too bad. Parking prices aren't bad, and you can get validated at the big restaurants. read more

But what makes this place particularly unbearable is the pack of overly aggressive kiosk salespeople who are in your face the minute you walk in the mall. I like being near a mall. But I do not like paying for parking. Nor do I like that I always get my directions mixed up when I enter from the parking garage (which was is Borders? Which was I JCrew?) But this is my issue, not the mall's. I like that they have a Borders. I do not like that every store (including Banana Republic) always looks as if a large yeti (or rabid teenagers) destroyed the place probably three hours before I arrived, and the employees can't be arsed to pick up. I do however like that I once saw a girl fight here! I went to have my watch battery replaced and in addition got to see two girls beat the crap out of one another, while the security guard strolled up and didn't attempt to break up the fight. I always get turned around here. The mall is just long and straight so for some reason I never know which side I came in on. I dunno. Maybe that just says something about my sense of direction... This is one of the few malls I know of near a T stop in Boston. It's much more low key than the Pru. It even has things like Old Navy, H & M, and Borders. Oh, and I think it's also home to the only Apple store in Boston. I guess if you wanted a really good mall, you'd drive to the Burlington mall. But if one's car use is limited by when one's friend/boyfriend with a car is around, one learns to appreciate the decentness of Cambridgeside. Why are people hatin'?! I live down the street from the Pru, and I would much rather come to the Cambridgeside Galleria to do my shopping. The stores here are less bourgeois than the Pru, so I don't feel as intimidated doing my shopping here. While the Galleria can get pretty swamped with people, I've never felt incredibly anxious or rushed. The food court is a winner in my eyes, with plenty of options for everyone. And while you shop, you can feel comfortable leaving your car in the garage because the cost of parking is actually pretty decent! Rock on and shop on. read more

Caveat: I live in East Cambridge, so if I need something mall-shoppy, this is my first stop. But really - I don't get why people are calling this mall 'garbage' and 'Ghetto' and 'dark and dingy.' It's none of the above. I've been coming to this mall 1-2 times per week since 2005, and I've never felt uncomfortable here. It's bright, well lit, and the glass skylights are nice in the summer. This is a good mid-range mall - lots of stores in what I consider the 'average' price range, a few stores in the 'above average' price range - but it's not full of overpriced ick like Copley or the Pru. Plus, they recently got a Swarovski - how can you not like this mall? No offense to the folks who call this mall sketchy, but take it from a local resident - it ain't. It's clean, well lit, and I've found the employees at several stores (Borders, in particular - shout out to the Borders folks!) to be EXTREMELY helpful. If you're looking for an overpriced, high-end atmosphere and clientele - stick to the Pru. If you're looking for a place where the average Joe can find whatever he needs - head to the Galleria. Minus one star for a couple of stores I'd like to see, and the kiosk lady on the first floor who always harasses me. You see me all the time - I'm still not interested! read more

The Galleria is a real mall, the only real, stereotypical mall in Boston/Cambridge, because who wants to leave the city for the suburbs just to go to a mall? The Pru/Copley is way too touristy and high end to be a real mall, but Cambridgeside is for real people who shop at the stereotypical mall stores. It's really not that big, and only has Macy's and Sears as its two department stores, but the Galleria will satisfy your mall cravings. The Best Buy is nice, and I like the Pac Sun and the Journeys. Best of all, they have the little mall booths that sell the knockoff cheap stuff, my favorite being the "compare us to designer sunglasses" one. You can get two pairs of fashionable sunglasses for $20. What a deal! Best of all, a couple years back I saw one of the most intense fights I've ever seen in the food court. This one dude got his ass beat hella bad. They were throwing chairs at him and everything. The best part was when he was asking his friends where they were and one of the excuses was "I was in line for Burger King, man." read more

Not sure why some of the reviews are so poor - this is a great mall! They have plenty of parking, every mid-level (I say mid-level because if you are looking for Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks, Lord & Taylor etc...this is not your place) store you can imagine, a good selection of sit down restaurants and a great location in Cambridge. Plus behind the mall is the Charles River, perfect for taking a stroll or enjoying a sandwich outside on the terrace. I also really like that this mall has a Best Buy & TJMaxx - not always stores you will find in a stand alone mall but in the city it's really helpful. read more

It's funny because I'm reviewing a mall... nevermind. So Cambridgeside has your mallsentials: Old Navy, American Eagle, Express for men, H&M (women's clothing only), Best Buy, cell phone kiosks, starbucks, and a food court with fake asian & taco bell. The courtyard view and pond are quite lovely, and the location is nice... right near Lechemere Station, and accessible by subway and several bus routes. But, it IS a mall, and therefore I can't in good conscience rise above an A-Ok rating. read more

This mall is horrible, but it does have one nice attribute which has nothing to do with shopping but has to do with getting around. There's a free shuttle service between the mall and the Kendall/ MIT T stop. It runs every twenty minutes and makes it really nice when the weather stinks. While it is only a fifteen minute walk at best, this quick bus ride back and forth is handy for those of us in the neighborhood with shopping bags. This mall has so many shop lifters that when you read the Cambridge Police Department's reports of daily activity, the whole rap sheet is filled with attempted thefts from the Galleria. Odds are very high that you will see some drama when you come here, if that's your thing. The Galleria has big heavy weights like Macy's, Best Buy and Sears. There are also the middle weight champs like J. Crew, Ann Taylor, The Gap and Victoria's Secret. And the food court? Light weights at best. Do not eat here. The food court is totally dreary and overpriced. You can could opt for The Cheesecake Factory or California Pizza Kitchen, but if you are smart you will cut around the corner to Bambara at the Hotel Marlowe and get lunch or dinner over there. (Note that if you are staying at the Marlowe you can access the mall through the parking garage. You don't need a jacket or an umbrella if it is raining.) There's a very pleasant outdoor seating area just outside the food court where you can park yourself on nice days. It's quite peaceful and not a bad spot to relax with a magazine which you can use to swat away a couple of hungry pigeons. You'll be right on the water. overlooking the canal which leads into the Charles. That's a nice perk. You can walk to the river and get some fresh air if you need a break from shopping. I hear the parking lot is a bargain but I walk over so it's just hearsay from my end. This part of Cambridge is relatively quiet so having a mall near the Lechmere Station and close to the Museum of Science is pretty cool if you are into malls.But it is not a mall for me. read more

I went there 2 years ago and will never go back. It's a ghetto crowded mall filled with ignorant trashy people. It's like a Walmart on steroids! I was considering moving over to the Kendall area, and thought it would be so nice to have this mall right there. BUT, at that point I had never been in. I usually don't shop at SEARS, but I had to pick something up that I could only get there. I pulled into the mall garage and went in on the Basement level, which I had then had to go up to the first level of the mall. Once inside, I realized that I could only get into Sears from the 2nd and 3rd levels. So I had to go up another level and then into Sears. To which I found out that the thing I needed was on the 1st floor of the mall, where there is NO entrance to the Sears from the mall. WTF? I hate that go up to go down shit. So I make my purchase on the 1st floor and am then told to pick it up on the 3rd floor. The guy on the third floor tells me to bring my car up the 3rd level of the garage and he will load my purchase. So I exit out of Sears into the garage and walk around and around to find the elevator. There is none. So I have to go back in through Sears, down into the mall, through the ext of the mall. I find my car and drive around and around trying to figure out how to get up from the basement level to level 3. There are NO signs, just around and around and around. And only signs for the exit. So after 20 frustrating mins I just pull up to the exit and ask the guy. Who tells me that I have to exit this parking garage and go into the next one to get up to level 3. AND THAT I HAVE TO PAY AGAIN!! No way!! I talked him out of paying again, and FINALLY made it to pick up my purchase. This mall is not only slightly scary inside, but whoever designed the layout of the mall and the parking siutation is a moron. The hoodlums inside that were hanging out everywhere, defintely will keep me from EVER going there again, unless it's a shopping emergency. I'll stick to Newbury St., Prudential Center, and Copley Square where at least the majority of the sales people are nice. Think happy thought think happy thoughts read more

Fine. My boyfriend kindly pointed out that Cambridgeside has the closest Taco Bell to where we live. Takes about an hour by train, to be sure, but when you have a craving--and do I ever have cravings for crappy fast food--you cannot deny yourself a drippy, fatty, instantaneous-death taco. (And many more salacious crimes have been committed in the name of a chalupa with a side of cinnamon twists.) Therefore, I'm obliged to give Cambridgeside an extra star for the T. Bell. This mall scares me, I'm not sure why but it does. It does have a few nice stores...but the atmosphere always seems dark and dingy inside. Something about this mall makes me depressed which is hard to do while I'm shopping. read more

I don't get to shop here as often as I'd like, but when I do, I always enjoy it. It's kind of tough to get to, and get out of, but the shopping inside is nice. Yah, it's just a mall, but it's got class and some decent stores. I always look forward to dinner here after shopping, as I'm a big fan of PF Chang and California Pizza Kitchen. Cheesecake Factory, not so much. - Want to hear a story? We once closed down the Cheesecake Factory. I don't mean closed it down, but we were last to leave. Both the restaurant and the mall. We had an excellent dinner, oddly enough, and the waiter let us stay there forever. It was so late, that the garage was closed - giant gate down, etc. No one would help us get out. They typical mall stores are still there: Gap, Old Navy, AE, Macy's and Sears but they also have just added a Forever 21. It's not huge but a decent size and nice staff. They have a decent food court and also good chain restaurants like PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen. I now life in the area so this will def become "my mall" of choice. It is pretty convenient for MIT students to do shopping in Cambridgeside Galleria. The free shuttle is just at Kendall, outside COOP. It arrives every 20 minutes. Price is reasonable, and have a reasonable number of shops. At least, most of my favorite shops are there. Macy's there is in a reasonable size too. read more

My sister dragged me into this wall and we did look around a lot - I eyed stuff in the Apple store but this mall was crawling with teenagers and there were some good stores, a decent food court, and decent sales going on. Why three stars? Because the guys at the cell phone booth were really pushy and kept on calling out to us and one of them came up to me (I was on my cell phone) and was like "You need a new phone" and tried to push me on T-mobile (don't even get me started on T-mobile) and I just glared at him and he just kept pushing his product.
