Came here for a family reunion. Came highly recommended from past experiences. Recent reviews complained of serving food in to go containers. We called ahead to make sure this was no longer the case as we are trying to reduce our single use plastic. We were happy they said they don't use plastic anyone for food. Unfortunately, they only have beverages in plastic bottles. The food is all made to order. They will add or subtract anything and spice levels are 1-10. Loved the chive dumplings. The mango salad was OK as were the summer role. My son got the pad Thai without any spice. He loved it. My husband got the Masaman curry without spice so my son could try it. The waitress said it had a little spice. We went for it anyway. It had too much of a kick for my son. It was great to me. I got the pad see ew with chicken. Spice level 5. It was OK. We also got the Tom Yum soup spice level 7. It was so flavorful. It was a bit salty. Would love to come back next time we are visiting. We were a table of 10 and our waitress handled it amazingly. I've loved Cambodian Thai for years, starting in my undergrad days, so it definitely has a touch of nostalgia for me. I haven't been back in years and my hopes were high for a delicious meal reminiscent of my youth-- and for the most part, my expectations were met! I went with a party of 10 people and we were quickly seated. The service was excellent-- our waiter was great but she seemed to be the only server in the establishment. Despite this she moved as fast as she could and was very attentive. As other reviews have mentioned, due to the short staff the service can be slow, so be prepared to have a leisurely meal. The atmosphere is pleasant but modest-- a reminder that the best meals can come from the humblest places. I am happy to report THEY ARE USING REAL CHINA!! No more of the styrofoam and paper plates so reviled in the recent reviews! We started off with spring rolls, papaya salad, and chive dumplings. Al were fresh and delicious. My favorite was the papaya salad, very refreshing. I used to LOVE the chive dumplings in undergrad, but unfortunately the flavor was a bit lacking. The entrees come with a spice level from 1-10. My party ordered anywhere in the range from 1 to 9! For the most part, the ratings rang true, although the lone brave soul who opted for 9 reported it was not that spicy (perhaps putting on a brave face). I had the basil fried rice with tofu rates at 7, another nostalgic meal. Again, not quite as flavorful as memory served, but still delicious. As a bonus, the waitress let us know the restaurant is entirely family run. Her mom and dad own the place, and her Cambodian mom adapted the Thai recipes from ones she learned in a refugee camp. Cambodian Thai was highly recommended to me, and though I haven't had Cambodian food before, I assume this is a mixture between the two cultures. Their seafood pho is very tasty, comes with lots of soup and meat and seafood. The soup gets saltier as you drink it but it seems to be a common occurrence here in SB. I've also had the panang and I got level 1 spice and was sweating! I will be ordering with no spicy from now on. Their crab rangoon and Thai ice Tea is good too. I've also tried the drunken noodle which was okay. They didn't have Cambodian iced coffee so I opted for the Thai iced coffee and it was interesting, kind of a hybrid between Viet coffee and Thai iced tea. I think I'll stick to one or the other next time! The green curry with tofu was decent. It was mildly spicy even though I didn't specify what level so I'm not sure what level that was. Again, with all the curries I've tried I always wish the portion was bigger, especially the rice... it's just a small bowl of it. I would order it with meat next time, tofu is just okay, it's the dried kind. I've also had the pad sen won which comes with a small bowl of rice but the main dish is chicken with very thin glass noodles. It's pretty good. It's one of my usual places for lunch since there isn't a huge selection of choices in this area when I'm looking for asian comfort food. We stopped at Cambodian Thai on a whim after visiting South Bend. The restaurant is on a busy downtown street corner. After a long and awkward stare from the host/waiter after walking in, we said "two," and he vaguely gestured to sit somewhere in the dining room. There was 1 other seated table when we seated ourselves. I noticed paint chipping off the walls and dirt on the blinds. Vanilla Ice played on the speakers, keying us in to the chosen music genre for the restaurant. It was cold in there, so it was fitting. We knew we wanted to try the pad see eiw, a favorite Thai dish we have had at many other places. We ordered 2 pad see eiw and ice tap waters. We received bottled waters, and the food came out extremely quickly... My first bite of chicken in the pad see eiw had a piece of bone or tendon. The sauce used for the dishes was extremely sweet, not savory. To me, the sauce coating the noodles tasted like an American barbecue sauce or teriyaki sauce but a lot sweeter. The noodles themselves were very oddly sour, as if the noodles or something else were rotten. In addition, the rice noodles were oddly crisped (bad texture) on the edges as if they were exposed to the air repeatedly and left to dry out over time. My supposition is that the noodles are made in large batches for the weekend rush, and Monday night diners get the worst of the leftovers. All the sauce tastes like store-bought brands. I will not recommend this establishment to others. They charge 3$/person for water for dine ins. read more

Had a major craving for Thai food, but was disappointed in a number of things. First off, the potential killed me! Great location, great space...zero design. Diner tables. Grey walls. One painting hanging off center. Wall paint chipping. Sigh. So much potential. Hopefully the owners decide to revamp soon! Service was good! One girl ran the whole place. She was young but handled everything from cleaning to ordering to delivering to ringing up "take out" orders. Well done! As for food, I ordered the Penang Curry, so I can't speak to any other dish, and it tasted okay as far as "food and flavor" go (besides the insane amount of salt...and I usually love salt on salt) but it wasn't "Thai Penang Curry" in anything other than look...maybe that's a sign that I've had really good "PC" in my life. Ha. The curry was thin and very watered down. There was zero spice. Like none. And Penang curry usually makes me sweat. The only veggies were green peppers that were not precooked at all and slightly rubbery. The chicken was decent. But the rice was dry. Not worth the $10 Lastly, for those concerned about hormone imbalances (I don't really care, ha, maybe I should) but they do serve all their dishes out of cheap paper or plastic plates and you can't get water unless you order a bottle of it. Aka water isn't free. And for those with a shellfish allergy, be careful! I have a severe mollusk allergy and never have issues with Thai food...but they add oyster sauce into almost everything here (unusual for a Thai place, unnecessary for the flavor of Thai food, and it's NOT listed on the menu. So be careful!) Had I not asked, I would have ended up in the hospital with an epi pen in my thigh... so sorry to give this place 1 star as I really see the potential! I'm not sure why the average rating here is so high, but I thought the food here was very average and overly sweet. It's possible that it's the best option for Thai food in the area but objectively it is not good. On the plus side, service is very friendly, and the prices are low for the quantity of food. Another positive is their customizable heat level - they use ground Habanero, and their scale is usually 1-10 but can go up to 30 (which is very spicy). With enough heat I think the food is easier to eat. I tried: -Green curry with chicken ($8.95) - very thin, watery texture and pretty greasy. -Basil chicken ($8.95) - very sugary. I got this with spice level 30 and the sweetness was still the main flavor when I first started eating it. One of my friends got this with spice level 6 and said it was too sugary and just bad. A friend got the mixed seafood soup (which is described as "hot & sour" on the menu) and it was so sweet that he couldn't even eat it. Others in my party got the shrimp and pineapple curry and the vegetable fried rice and ate less than half of their dishes, so I'm not sure if they were just being polite when they said it was good. read more

I adore this place. It is always my first stop in South Bend, and I'm greeted with a smile every time I come in from the best waitstaff in the city. The food is great, the atmosphere welcoming, and you can get anything as spicy as you want it (you've been warned) though they are also happy to make things mild enough that even my father's very bland palate is delighted. read more

I'm mixed on this place. They only serve food in plastic containers with lids for "covid safety." I'm not sure what that does for covid safety, it seems like we're just adding more single use plastic into landfills. I hate to say it, but I won't be back for that alone. Recycling doesn't really work, and we need to stop filling landfills. No tap/filtered water, plastic bottles only, as well. Food was good. Panang curry had a good flavor, but hardly any spice. I should've asked for more when I ordered. Very thin. Maybe it was watered down? Tasted good, just not much kick. My wife thought that the Pad see ew was a little chewy, but I thought it was worth getting. I hate the QR code menu situation. They did have paper menus as well, so I'm not sure why there's both. Maybe for covid safety? -- this written as a generally very covid conscious person. It wasn't written as a dig - I just really don't know how a disposable container helps covid over a ceramic plate. First: The food is coming out in plastic containers as of 04/27/2022. Hot plastic is horrible for the testosterone of men and fertilization in women! In the last 50years a study shows that the average testosterone has dropped by 59% with plastic playing a huge roll! Second: The food is amazing. The spring rolls are long and a great size. The Curry is perfect. The taste is strong and the temperature is not too hot. The rice is made well and the noodles are some of the best in the South Bend area. They have flavored iced tea which is the best way to finish your meal. The customer service is perfect and the people make you feel at home. I could eat here 2x a week with their great prices! While at the For the Love of Art show in South Bend, IN, we won a $25 gift card to visit here. We came that same day for a late Saturday afternoon lunch. We expected that it would be slow but the place was packed. The food was amazing, 5 star, but we really did not get a real experience due to the unprepared rush from the Art Show. A week later we brought a couple of our foodie friends to try it with us because it was really that good but I wanted a second experience before I rated it (sounds like a good excuse doesn't it). In our two visits, we received the same level of service, laid back and slow. From my experience, this is not a place to come to if your in a hurry but WELL worth the wait. This is the only reason I can not give them a five star. On to the good stuff: The food here is clearly, primarily home made and Cambodian Thai authentic. They have a heat scale of 1-10 instead of hot Thai hot etc. I am still experimenting with the levels but next time I will just go for the 10. Shrimp Pad Thai (5 heat): This is best Pad Thai I have had in awhile. The rice noodles were the perfect texture and the Tamarind sauce was tasty. It was a nice touch having the crushed peanuts on the side to spread yourself. Drunken Noodles with Chicken (0 Heat, my wives): Oh my God... amazing. The noodles.... wow. The chicken was dry but who cared, who needed meat. I finished her scraps it was so good. On our second trip she had the same thing with Shrimp; still amazing. Panang Curry (8 Heat): I found my new place for curry. Having had this with friends, I left my phone in my pocket so no pictures or notes. I could not tell you what meat I had in the Curry, but who cares. The curry had depth, the flavor profile was simple yet complex. As i am writing this review my mouth is watering thinking about how good it is. Overall, the service and kitchen need to step it up a notch but if that changes the quality slow back down. I ordered their Panang Curry which is one of my favorite Thai dishes but instead of adding coconut milk they made it with water and it tasted awful. I had to mix the rice with the curry because it was basically soup for me and I was extremely disappointed. If you've had really good Thai food this place will disappoint you. Taste of Asia is a million times better than this place and their portions are generous compared to Cambodian Thai. I don't recommend coming here! read more

Not a fan. The food was over priced and badly seasoned. I tried their Pad Thai, eggplant basil, fried tofu, and chicken pot stickers. Sad to say the best part of the meal was the fried tofu. The flavors of the Pad Thai was off. I'm not sure what it was, but I did not like it at all. The eggplant was meh. I was really surprised everything was served in disposable containers and when we asked for water they only provided bottled water.
