Call center wait times for new patient appointments -- and yes, you are reaching a call center, NOT the actual office -- ranged from 15-20 minutes each time I called. Representatives could use more training, as there was great debate and confusion over whether I needed a referral. I did not, and in fact, they do not accept my insurance, but it took far too long to sort that out. When I made the appointment in November, I was quoted $250 for a new patient appointment. The morning of the appointment in February, I received a more detailed cost estimate for a higher amount that also seemed to include some randomly selected ear-related procedures. I was also informed in this communication that I needed to pay $125 at check-in and the balance at check-out. The office staff could also use more training, as check-in was painful and protracted. They finally sent me to sit down, only to call me back up and tell me that I "could" make a payment of $125 then, at which point I clarified that it was in fact NOT optional and they REQUIRED that I make that payment then. They then could not be bothered to inform me that they were running close to 20 minutes behind. Only when I expressed frustration to the person doing my hearing test did the office manager finally appear to offer explanations and apologies, and said that she would honor the original $250 quote. But after all of that, by the time I actually saw Dr. Champion, I was painfully stressed and wondering why I was even bothering with this appointment. Aside from a few helpful tips and confirming what I basically already knew, I can't say I got many insights from Dr. Champion. She recommended a follow-up in 6-8 weeks, which I dutifully scheduled. At check-out, I said that I had paid $125 and asked what else I needed to pay. The person said that the office manager had "taken care of that." However, I subsequently received a bill for $175, and after emailing the office manager -- despite her giving me an extension, the phone tree does not provide anywhere to enter it -- she indicated that the staff member was mistaken and should have collected an additional $125. At this point, I have ZERO interest in being subjected to this disaster again, so I have cancelled my follow-up appointment. This is unfortunately a classic case of a doctor's staff and office procedures creating a massive barrier between the doctor and her patients. I don't think there is enough training in the world to fix these problems. Stay far, far away from The ENT & Allergy Centers of Texas.
