Meh, stick with absolute emergencies only and not for regular vet visits or smaller things like a cold or flu To be charged $98 for a 5 min "doctor consultation" to literally be outside in the patio area and not have your pet's weight checked or vitals taken is plain outrageous! Attached is a photo for context My little dog had a cold, and I came in with him. I was literally escorted outside in the patio area in the heat where some patients hang out waiting for their ride or whatever. I had to ask for a lady to move her purse from the "exam table" so the nurse could take my dog's temperature (he did not have a fever like i told them). They then still proceeded to make us wait outside and literally make the doctor come to us. This is a hospital and emergency place first, maybe have grooming and boarding clients go to another separate section with its own door rather than have a sick animal wait outside or separate the sick and scared pet from its owner for the nurse to literally walk the exact same way inside and still spread any virus around. If it's still the same door and same inside walk, then how is any virus not spread if a nurse does it? Anyways, dubious about the science on that one, but most importantly, after 5 years of going there on/off, this was a first for me at this location. If you go to a clinic, the expectation is that pets there are sick, so yes, there will be viruses in the air... if you want to do it all, then make a separate section for sick and non sick pets. Imagine making sick humans wait outside at an urgent care or hospital to not spread viruses to others inside because it is also a nail salon. Not very logical read more

I go to another vet in Boca for my Dogs regular care . i did not have any issues with your vets or services .when i have used them . i wanted to board my dogs at daycare facilities but i have to pay for exams with your vets . i feel it's unnecessary. Some folks feel your poaching customers this way and i have to agree . All other boarding only requires proof of vaccinations not an exam at facilities. read more

This is not your typical veterinary center review. Our dog passed away unexpectedly, and the dog was brought here for cremation and finalization. Despite a very difficult and sad time, they did an absolutely fabulous job of taking care of all of the arrangements and making the process smooth and comfortable during our grieving process. Not only did we get the ashes back in a beautiful box with a condolences letter, but they included two ceramic paw prints as well as a tuft of his hair. We could not have asked for a better memorial to our beloved pet, and we were blown away by how beautifully they packaged everything and put it together. It was very touching to find a place that respects animals as much as pet owners. Highly recommended. read more

We had our new rescue dog in for a wellness check. With the testing & panels the bill was about $700 with a 2 week follow up for wax buildup in her ears. At that time we were told the follow up is $70 for the ear exam. At check out the bill was close to $170 including a medical exam and another follow up scheduled. I questioned the front desk the response was it's their policy to have a doctor exam with each visit. I must have upset the receptionist as she put the paid bill on the counter, got up and walked away. I left but made a quick U-turn back to Calusa. I asked for the office manager Rose. Rose explained that's policy. She did waive the exam fee on the next visit. I also told the receptionist that her actions were rude. We have been loyal to Calusa trusting their expertise costing several thousands of dollars and loosing our 3 year old Maltese. My wife & I feel the need to make a change. Though we pray our furry babies will never need emergency care, it is our duty to be prepared for the unexpected with a trusted veterinary center. Dr. Soucy, the nurse, and their team all worked diligently to stabilize my baby. The care, knowledge, support and confidence from all of them was nearly tangible. I would trust Dr. Soucy, Dr. Turkell, and the nurse with my human life. As a student who cannot afford pet insurance, I added CALUSA to my emergency care list knowing they offer amazing care along with competitive pricing that is more affordable than other local emergency vet offices. CALUSA VET IS OPEN 24/7!! Last night my 3.5 pound Pomeranian slipped and hit his head. His tongue turned blue and body shut down instantly upon impact. I immediately began CPR with rescue breaths while dad drove us to CALUSA. Dad called them to provide an ETA and basic injury info (while I continued CPR) so that they could prepare for our arrival. The receptionist answered our call right away and notified the CALUSA team. Upon arrival, the receptionist led us directly to the team where they instantly began to work on stabilizing my baby. We were at Calusa for 3 hours, receiving updates as they came, until my baby was stabilized and kept overnight for further care/observation. My entire body was shaking. The receptionist reassured us our baby was receiving the best care, and helped me calm down to begin the paperwork. In moments like these, when your mind and body are overloaded in a state of shock/desperation/despair/confusion, these simple gestures help you take hold of your bearings (at least a little). Overall, my baby was not breathing on his own and arrived in the nick of time. They successfully brought my baby back to life! I hope my experience emphasized the importance of having a trusted emergency vet planned, and learning HOW + WHEN to administer pet CPR. I do not wish my experience on ANYONE! I came to Calusa because it was recommended to me. The staff and doctors were very nice but not very helpful. The front desk ladies were very sweet but with the doctor she didn't seem to know what she was talking about. They ran tests on my cat and told me that her sodium was so high that it didn't even give them a number. They told me she would have to stay there for a couple of days and the bill was very expensive. I went to another vet to give me a second opinion and they ran tests again and everything came back clear. They told me that it had to be an error from Calusa machine because they ran the tests twice due to her sodium being so high. They also told me that if her sodium was that high she would be having seizures and she wasn't. I'm rating this place one star only because I was very disappointed with the diagnosis that they gave me. I'm not a doctor but if I was I would have ran the tests again to see if it was an error or not, because they told me that they've never seen a sodium level that high before. read more

We've used CVC three times now for three different cats, one our very old female rescue for dental work, one a male feral for TVNR, and one of our younger male rescues for urinary tract issues. In each case the staff was friendly and compassionate and the doctors communicative and helpful, with one exception (they tested the TVNR candidate for FHIV and euthanized him without giving us the option of adopting him regardless of testing positive). I have been taking my dogs to Calusa for 15+ years and they are the best at what they do. My fur baby Lola is a 17 1/2 year-old Shih Tzu poodle mix and recently needed a dental cleaning. Her doctor, Dr. Turkell has always taken the best care of her and knows exactly how to make sure she gets everything she needs. As he told me when I brought her in age is not a disease. And he was absolutely right! After a full work up to make sure she was healthy enough for the procedure she was able to undergo the cleaning and extractions necessary to give her many more pain-free happy doggy years. And I have no words for Anthony, for the hyperbaric oxygen chamber, technician. To say he went above and beyond for me and my dog, is a gross understatement. I brought in my toy poodle on a Sunday afternoon and was assisted by Michelle first over the phone who was very helpful. Curtis then took a look at my dog to assess the situation and made me feel like I was in good hands. Dr Fryer helped me to diagnose and discuss the problem and advise a course of action. The entire time they were very transparent about the costs so there were no surprises. They were a wonderful team. They sent the labs and files to my normal vet right away and texted to follow up the next day. Be prepared to wait a little longer on the weekends. I had expectations, if you will. CVC, exceeded such. I relied on the knowledge of Dr. Goldberg and Vet Technician, Cornell. I am certain ... MAX and MYSELF couldn't have been in better hands. Both informed me of the necessary "details"; before, during and after. I had the fortunate experience, to say goodbye to Max; before, during and after. I've been taking my cats and kittens to Calusa for almost 20 years and they only get better and better! Last night (a Saturday) I had an emergency visit with my boy Nick. The care given by Dr. Robert Fryer was above-and-beyond and has my highest praise for attention, care, attitude, and genuine concern for 18-month-old Nick. But the OUTSTANDING experience didn't just start with the doctor. Even before I arrived, Paola (at the desk) was on the phone assuring attention; and once I was there her uber-attentiveness was felt not just by me, but by little (18-pound) Nick. He even stopped yelling at the soothing sound of her voice! Even at discharge, later that evening, she was understanding and helpful above-and-beyond. She even called the insurance company and cleared the payment BEFORE Nick and I were out. WHAT ATTENTIVE CARE. Then there was Curtis -the nurse/tech. WOW. He listened carefully to the situation. Asked the right questions. Was so kind. He took away MY stress AND (more importantly) Nick's stress. In fact, Nick (who normally is very very nervous about everything) settled in as if it were a home-away-from-home; and THAT was all Curtis!!! In short, I cannot rate Calusa Veterinary Center high enough --because the stars don't go that high. (And just for good measure, this outstanding service of their 24-hour-a-day emergency care, extends to their day-to-day routine vet services. OMG, their database of Nick;s history is as good (or better) than my human doctor's data on me!) If you need an emergency vet or routine care... this is THE place (and I have had experiences with several other area veterinary practices). Trust me, this is THE place. For example, when drugs did not prevent my orange boy Seamus from vomiting (caused by other necessary medicine) Dr. Krawitz mixed up a gruel of slippery elm bark powder and taught me how to make it and administer it at home. Over the years, a dozen cats, 3 were barn cats, and a couple of pups, we currently have 2 kitties, we have run the gamut of veterinary needs, some very rare and serious. Every ounce of attention and detail to our fur babies' health is taken. Dr. Cindy Krane has been and is our primary doctor. She has guided us with knowledge, care and empathy. When we needed specialists, Dr. Krane got us the best (eyes, cardiologist, cancer, amputation, genetic disorders and so on...). Amanda, Suzanne, and Rosemary have been stedfast with us as well. The whole Calusa team and the supporting physicians that work with Calusa are second to none. A shout out to Dr. Courtney Glotzner, too! We also use their pet resort. Yes, it's a resort. We travel a lot! And there is no other place we would leave them with. The staff spoil our critters. I love having our vet at the boarding facility. It has come in handy several times. A number of routine exams and tests get done while they board, eliminating a separate visit. A couple of years ago we moved to Lauderdale by the Sea area and we still make the drive to north Boca for all our pets' needs. Calusa's staff and doctors have loved our pets as their own. When it was time to let them, one by one, cross the rainbow bridge, everyone came in to say goodbye, shed tears, and tell stories of their antics. Had to bring my cat in the emergency room after digesting garlic which I found out the hard way is poisonous for them. I was very scared and nervous driving there and dreading the process that was ahead of me. As soon as I got there everyone was very nice. The environment was very clean, warm, and welcoming. I only had to wait maybe five minutes before I was taken back and they took my sick kitty to get checked out. They quickly returned with their recommendations and made me feel a lot better. Laila's regular doctor, Dr. Cindy Krane, was away on vacation so I saw Dr. Glotzer instead. We adore Dr. Krane and I had never met Dr. Glotzer, but I was thoroughly impressed with this lovely physician. She was so thorough, patient, and knowledgeable, and her instant connection with Laila was incredibly apparent. They essentially scammed me out of $1800 and broke the law. My dog was in an urgent situation and was struggling to breath after playing in the middle of the day. I brought him to Calusa and they "intubated and sedated him". They also told me he had a cyst on his tongue which they drained. I handed them my dog in a very urgent situation, and all they told me was that he was intubated and sedated and continued to express uncertainty about his life. That was $600 in, and I now realize my dog had been saved at that point, but at the time I did not know because of their way of communicating with uncertainty and using medical terminology. They handed me a sheet to sign off on an estimate of $2430. I signed, bc I did not know that intubated and sedated meant that my dog was now okay and breathing fine. This is where they broke the law. They are required to communicate in laymans terms and not use medical jargon. This was in 02/21 and I was forced to wait outside because of covid and each time they sent a new vet out to prey on my situation and express uncertainty. They referred to the cyst as a "mass", suggesting it may be cancer, but they never ran a biopsy to test it of course despite running up the bill for $2500. The vet said he wanted to keep my dog overnight and said "maybe he will be available to go tomorrow." I said I can't afford to pay thousands to keep him there over several days. The vet said okay you can get him tomorrow. The following morning I called and they let me pick him up first thing in the morning. The overnight stay was a complete scam and you can read other reviews saying how this vet just tried to run up the meter on them. When I picked my dog up they handed me a bill for like $2492 and refunded $8 to my card. Had they given me my dog back when they should have, at $600 in, I would have been tremendously grateful and this would be a 5 star review. Calusa are money grubbing swines who will prey on people in urgent situations and exploit the love they have for their pets for profit. They used covid as an opportunity to make more money despite the fact that covid put millions out of work. The staff are all corrupted by profits, I suspect vet techs are paid commission to incentivize them to be little schemers. Practices like this are why veterinarians have such high suicide rates. When you sell your soul for money and work without passion, life becomes bleak and purposeless. As you can see they responded to my review and said they don't have me in their system. I emailed them with my bill and linked my review to let them know it was me. They have not responded. Will update review if they do. When people were out of work in the middle of covid, Calusa was exploiting their customers to the fullest and breaking laws. read more

This place lied to me to get me to bring my dog in for an emergency visit. Then when I got there they recommended an X-ray which not what they said they would have to do when I called them. Then after the X-ray they admitted there is nothing they could do anyway and my dog would likely be fine.
