Honestly Henry is such a good instructor. I had a fear of driving before starting and he really helped me become accustomed to being on the road, including the freeway. He's very understanding and helpful too as I had to cancel classes at least three times due to health implications as well as my wisdom teeth removal. Overall both him and his employees are very friendly so you won't feel tense at all while driving with them. Best driving school! Very friendly staff and teacher. They prep you well before putting you behind the wheels, they have a cutout of the drivers side of the car in the office so you can get used to the structures and motions of handling the wheel, brakes and etc before being out with nerves on the road. I got to know Caltop driving school from a CSULB friend, who is also very afraid of driving. The difference is I already failed multiple times in road test before knowing Mr. Liu but she passed the test at first time with 100/100 (plus she is pregnant when testing) under Mr. Liu's training. All my friends that I know passed road test with Mr. Liu. I regret that I didn't know Mr. Liu earlier, so I save those money spent with other coaches. In May, I also passed the road test with a very high score under Mr. Liu's training. Mr. Liu and his wife are very calm and friendly couple. Due to competition, I saw some enemies on Yelp said something mean to them. Please DO NOT believe those bad comments. Come and see them, they are very helpful and nice. They ran this driving school whole life. They treat this driving school as their little baby. In order to help students more, Mr. Liu read all the requirements by DMV. And he keeps the updated requirements as well. He has multipe folders where he printed out all the complicated situation pictures( eg.: where you need to make turns and who has priority). This is definitely the best driving school in whole southern California! I have hired three driving coaches before I knew Mr. Liu and failed three times in road test. I spent almost 30 hours, more than 1500 dollars with the other three coaches. You can imagine how slow I am in driving. Mr. Liu and Ms. Huang are very patient and helpful coaches. In total, they only taught me SIX hours and I passed the road test at​ the first time with 93/100 high scores. I was surprised by myself. ​Their teaching methodology is very scientific. They used a car model in their office to teach me how to use wheel and he knew very well the expecation for DMV. Mr. Liu charged lower than the other driving school but spend extra time to teach me. For him, coaching us is not only for making money, but also helping people. He is caring and loving all his students. Even now, already three months after I got my driving license and I also moved to North LA. We still keep contact. He even facetime me to check whether my car is good to go. He knew that as a new driver, I have very limited knowledge about car. He is afraid that I drove unsafe car. I really greatly appreciate Mr. Liu and Ms. Huang. Great school to go to if you are a beginner or if you already have some experience. They were very flexible with the times of my lessons and I was able to get all of mine done in a week. The instructor was super nice and it wasn't awkward at all. At the end of my 3 lessons, they even scheduled an appointment for me at the dmv the next day since they have connections. The people there do have little bit of accent, but it's not hard to understand. I'm seeing a lot of the other reviews saying how bad the accent was and it was super difficult to understand, but I don't see how that's the case unless you just learned how to speak english last year. Anyways, I took my test 2 days ago and I got a perfect score because he had taken me on the route of the test so many times. Would 100% recommend to go there. read more

First off this doesn't even deserve to be a 1 star more like 0.This school was brought up to me when I was looking at schools for driving training so I could pass my test.The very first day he was rude.I was being a nice person to the him whole time the only time I felt comfortable was with the lady in the counter.The first second I walk in there he already becomes rude like what 1 second ago I gave your wife a check and now you think you own me or something like WHAT.We went on the road and he just talks and talks to his friends on the phone the whole time he's just rude.I asked him a question once and he just starts throwing a fit.I think the 3 day I literally dropped off his MOTHER to her house, and when I asked him is that your Mom He said mind your own Business,and I think he cussed me out in his language .He literally tried to break me down everyday I went there.He straight up told me to my face you will never pass your driving test. His techniques are absolute garbage.His way of checking your curb side parking is a joke. He told me to not use my side mirrors while checking if I'm straight,How the heck does that work I need those side view mirrors to make sure I'm not far away from the curb that was literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The last hour that I had with him was the worst because he constantly told me that I wasn't gonna pass the test.At that very moment I wanted to say something so bad that I knew if I said it that would have been a waist of my parents money and I would not receive the pink slip that I needed to take my test. The last 5 minutes I had to drive him to another students house and I had to wait until the student would leave her house so she could enter the car so we could swap isn't that breaking the law that a student driver is in a car with another student driver that does not have a license and is under 18 and yet the driving instructor is cool with it. He's probably a very RECKLESS driver. I didn't learn a single thing from all of this all I learned is that there are extremely rude people in this world and he is definitely one of them.How does This Man have a permit to operate a driving school when he doesn't know how to drive,does not respect students,flirts with his student drivers,cannot teach anyone anything and does not even have a proper format for his school it's ridiculous and should not continue. read more

The old man instructor can't even drive well himself let alone teach you how to drive and pass the DMV test. He only wants your money. He is impatient, rude, unprofessional, and very careless. His car is filthier than my eight year old sink disposal. He will only take you to residential areas and drive twenty miles per hour all day, so you won't learn anything important. I have major anxiety when driving because of previous accidents (I was not the driver at the time of the incidents). The instructor made me feel uncomfortable the whole time cause he was very sloppy when teaching me. I have no idea how to park or reverse PROPERLY as we have only covered it vaguely 3-4 times. On the other hand, I have a bad habit of saying "I'm sorry" when I make a mistake. And his reply was "I hate when students say sorry, just a bad excuse." Is that a proper response to a student who barely started learning how to drive? Like really? I don't care if you hate it or not, you have to have the patience to teach me. I felt the attitude in his tone and I was absolutely appalled. I genuinely meant it when I said sorry and I'm trying to learn from my mistakes. You think it's acceptable to look down on a student for doing so? Only shows how apathetic you are. And last thing, he told me "I'm too scared to take you to go take your driving test" in Chinese, which doesn't seem so bad translated, but the tone and attitude he was talking to me in that language was extremely rude as if he was embarrassed of my driving. Im literally a beginner at driving, why is he expecting so much out of me and then bringing me down when I'm trying? I'm not even going to bother asking for a refund cause of the other reviews that I'm seeing. My parents are pissed off as well. Way to go, CalTop. Not only did you increase my anxiety while driving, you made me feel like utter sh*t when I made a mistake. First of all, if I could give zero stars I would. They do not teach you anything, and there are no refunds. It would be one thing if my sister was taught for the entire 6 hours and still did not feel comfortable. If this was the case, we would gladly pay for more lessons. The thing is my sister paid for 6 hours worth of lessons where half of it was wasted on the instructor asking her personal questions rather than providing instructions on driving. At first, the instructor was making small talk with her, then after about an hour he kept on mumbling about his family and personal life. He then proceeded to ask about her personal life. When my sister told the instructor (who happens to be the owner of the driving school) that she preferred that he focus on teaching her instead of making small talk, the instructor was not too happy and started implying that she would not be able to pass the DMV road test because she was not able to multitask like other drivers on the road. According to him, "there are many people who can apply make-up or eat food while driving, so how come you can't multi-task while driving?" Come on, really!? What kind of driving instructor says that?? If he focused on teaching instead of chatting and giving the wrong directions (i.e. telling my sister to make a left turn while pointing to the right), she could have actually learned something and not wasted her time and money. If you are looking for a decent driving school, this is not the right place for you. If I was in my sister's shoes, and I pay you $40/hr for driving lessons, I expect driving lessons. I don't need to hear about your life, or have you asking me about mine. If you're that desperate for someone to talk to, use the $40/hr that you get from the lesson and go to a strip club. Those girls will be more than happy to listen to your sob stories. I called the driving school the next day and spoke with the wife about what happened. Her response was that the $40/hr. lesson (up to a total of 6 hours) is a package deal and that there will be no refund. She said that if we insisted on a refund, there would be a handling fee. My sister would have learned more from Forza or Gran Turismo than she did from this driving school. If you actually want to learn the rules of the road and how to drive, find a real driving school.
