We had the advanced energy audit performed on our older home. Technician was very thorough. However, our audit report was not delivered on time and some details in the report incorrect which Nikole mentioned was due to a problem with the generation of the report(never received a corrected report?). We kept having to ask for our report and then for the summary of our video consultation. We never got the recommendations for a company that installs doors/windows. Nikole was going through some very hard times personally which I sympathize with and tried to be patient because of it, but in the end we were left feeling unsatisfied. We did our own research on the windows and doors and called it a day. Two stars instead of one because Nikole tried to compensate for their delays/errors with a follow up appt to check vampire usage which we did appreciate. read more

Their scheduling system is completely broken! I was originally scheduled for 8:00 am to noon which was fine. I then received a text at 6:08 pm on Sunday changing the time frame to 11:00 am to 3:00 pm which didn't work for my schedule. I texted and left a voicemail saying that time frame didn't work. I got a message the next day saying they were going to charge me a $50 fee for cancellation. I didn't cause this problem. I contacted them and they said that the message was supposed to say that the technician would be at my home between 11:00 and noon. They then informed me that the technician would need over two hours to complete the work. None of this was communicated to me. Very unprofessional and frustrating. Do better!! read more

My 20 year old furnaces and outdoor units were in desperate need of replacement. The only missing piece was getting everything permitted which now requires HERS testing under Title 24. This testing has to be done by an independent company. So my experience with Cal Raters started off super promising. Spoke with Nikole on the phone, learned a lot about HERS testing and decided to go with them after getting my entire HVAC system installed. Appointment was scheduled and everything was set. I got a call prior to my testing day asking if I they could change the date to the next day because the tester had an appointment. I figured why not be accommodating and moved it back one day. Here's where things went awry....so very, very wrong. My testing window was smack in the middle of the day,1230-1:30. Not ideal for me, I had errands to run, but whatever. I got a call from Nikole at 1230 saying the tester should arrive in about 30 mins. Ok fine. He needs about 60-90 mins to do the test. I can still go get the things I need done. Cut to 1pm no one has shown up. I call her back, she seems surprised he hasn't arrived yet, and calls him and calls me back. Tells me he ran out of blue painter's tape and is picking up more, will be at my house in 15 ish minutes. Now I'm getting annoyed. I had been nice to rearrange my schedule to allow for him to go to his appointment, I didn't ask for anything in return. The least the company could do was be respectful and have their supplies and show up relatively on time. But it gets worse. The tester shows up at 1:35. He comes in like a bull in a China shop, tearing in with his gear and drops in on the rug and starts laying into me. Aggressive in his tone and posture. He's telling me that he's late because he had to fail the previous place he was at and had to "smoke test them" when I tried to redirect his tone and conversation to a more respectful one he told me "he'll fail me too from the start". At that point I told him he could leave. As he was leaving he indicated it was "against the law to yell at a state employee". My contractor and I got a good chuckle out of that one. Not sure if he realized he was the only one yelling, and as far as threatening, he is at least a foot taller and 70lbs heavier than me so again, I wasn't the threat. I don't know if he realized his entire interaction was witnessed. But it was. I don't know if he's acted that way in any other homes, but to be so brazenly aggressive, disrespectful, unprofessional and dishonest is something that others should be aware of. I don't know if he thought I would back down when he threatened to fail my HVAC system... Obviously I had major concerns that a tester would so blatantly admit that he would falsify a test simply because he didn't like a homeowner, or think his behavior was in any way appropriate. I did call and speak with Nikole about this interaction. I did not ask for nor did I expect any sort of specific ramifications for this employee. She's the owner and she can do what she sees fit. That's not my place. I did want her to know. What's unfortunate is that my contractors were there. They're all local, and so there's now 4 of us who won't in any way recommend this company based on this witnessed experience. this event happened on 3/11/20 prior to the lockdown in the Bay Area read more
