Mike just completed replacing my corroded 75 gallon water heater tank with a brand spanking new good looking tankless water heater. Took him one full day to install and I now have working hot water in my home again! Less space needed in garage and lower energy bills. I did a comparison of replacing with a new tank versus tankless unit and for about a few thousand more, going tankless is the way to go since the unit will also last longer. This is the second time I have used Mike for plumbing services (first time for simple job - leaking sink where he went out to purchase a new kitchen faucet and installed in no time) and he has completed both jobs flawlessly. He has good experience and does good quality work. I highly recommend calling CalPlumbing aka Mike, for all of your plumbing needs. read more

I called him to see if he could help with an overflowing rain spout on my house. He took down my name, address, and phone number and said that he would "google" me and call me back later that day to let me know if he could do it. I'm not sure what he meant by "he would 'google' me" but my only guess is that he would check my location on Google Maps to see where my house was, but it was an odd turn of phrase. In any case he never called me back so I'll be looking for a plumber who returns calls. read more

Rating = 15 STARS - one for each year I have used Mike at Cal-Plumbing! Having used a plumber this long and for every condition imaginable, I can tell you Mike NEVER did anything wrong, over charged, was unpleasant - he ALWAYS showed up on time and immediately for emergencies, answered his phone and made me look good to every referral. This is THE plumber, not A plumber, but THE plumber! Even if you like your plumber try Cal-Plumbing, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. If you have never had a decent plumber, now you have one and ...well... You can send the flowers and chocolates to my home address :-) read more

Well what luck! After years of dealing with contractors and service professionals that either don't do what they say, when they say it (and for how much they estimate), we finally were recommended a truly responsive, timely, and friendly plumbing company, CalPlumbing. After a disastrous weekend where our "trusty" (maybe simply rusty) only 2 year old bad-insurance-company-recommended water heater started leaking all over our carpeted utility room and the original plumber who installed it ignored two phone calls and a page, CalPlumbing's Mike came to the rescue. We called Sunday and Mike said he would come out the next morning. And HE REALLY DID! You know how you always hear: "We'll be there sometime between 4 AM and 12 Midnight? and so you block off your day to wait.... Well he did what he promised; came out early, assessed the problem, recommended and then got the water heater, installed it and we had hot water by dinner. Hokey Smokes Bullwinkle how often does that happen? :) This was all for a fair price and a painless experience to boot. Compared to our miserable experience with the other plumber and First American Home Buyer's "Protection" http://www.yelp.com/biz/first-american-home-buyers-protection-van-nuys#hrid:qdqxhxt6sBhVdmjSNQ3IzA, we could not be happier. You never realize what something like hot water means to you until you don't have it, and CalPlumbing made sure that this was as short a period as possible. Need I say: Very Highly Recommended. read more

Mike is my new go-to plumber. We're doing a remodel of our garage area, and he rerouted some pipes, tucked others into the drywall, ran new water, drainage, and gas to an upstairs closet for a new laundry room, and replaced a cast-iron drainage pipe that had rotted away. He also ran a new water line for the backyard spigot, with an extension for irrigation. A pretty big job that he finished in two days by himself, at a price that was thousands less than another estimate. Mike is conscientious. He cares about doing things right. When running a new gas line, he noticed my furnace's exhaust was rusted and broken, and suggested a fix until the HVAC guy came. When installing a drain vent running to the roof, he noticed some cracks in the tar around a different vent, and not only told me about it, but went to the hardware store to buy the patching compound and went back up to my roof to fix it himself at no charge. I trust Mike and will use him for all my future plumbing projects. You should too. read more

My step-grandmother called with an urgent problem today: water was flooding the basement of her San Francisco home from an unknown leak! Since a watery basement is about the last place I want to visit, let alone search for a mysterious water leak in, I told her an official plumber would definitely be the way to go. "Oh Nickie, my last plumber was so so bad! I need your help, Nickie. Please find me a good plumber! You are such a good good granson, Nickie." And so I did, and I am. I called around a bunch of the top rated plumbers on Yelp who service San Francisco, and either got voicemails without timely call-backs, or plumbers who could not come on short notice. Finally, I tried Cal Plumbing, and got right through to Mike who was able to stop by my grandmother's house and find the source of the basement leak almost immediately. Turns out that an old boiler had broken, and was now leaking profusely. As this was a boiler issue and not a plumbing issue, Mike ended up referring her to the right place and did not charge a dime for the visit. CalPlumbing definitely earned my trust today, and I know who to call again the next time step-grandma calls with a flooded (insert possible house zone here)! read more

I live in an 8-unit condo and am the treasurer of the HOA. So, of course, whenever something major happens, it always comes down to me to notice that something is amiss and take care of it. For example, yesterday, our water heater exploded. One of the board members had a favored plumber for dealing with this stuff, but frankly he never impressed me (and has only 1.5 stars on Yelp anyway), and so instead I went to Yelp and looked at all the listings for "emergency plumbing" and went down the list until someone actually answered their phone. Mike at CalPlumbing answered his phone, and he was both friendly and helpful and honest and was willing to give a non-binding estimate and made the time to make us a priority for the next day. Within 24 hours we had a brand new non-exploding water heater, and it only cost a little more than his quick estimate (because the previous water heater had been installed by a nincompoop and so he had to redo the earthquake bracing and some of the duct work). While he was at it, he also fixed the hinge on our back gate, which had been screwed up a few years ago by someone backing into it. Obviously this made his life easier too, but he could have just as easily been an ass about it like most people are. read more

Mike was great. He was very responsive to phone calls, followed up personally with getting my landlord to authorize the work, came when he said he would and fixed not only my toilet and shower, but one of the my bathroom lights as well. I'd definitely recommend him and use him again. read more

If you are in need of a plumber, Mike is your man. He's friendly, professional, timely, does great work and prices are reasonable. Mike replaced my kitchen faucet, repaired my bathroom faucet and earthquake strapped my water heater. read more

I highly recommend Cal Plumbing. Mike installed a low-flow toilet and replaced a hose bib, all for a very reasonable price. As others have said, he is professional, friendly and does a great job. I had contacted him once before for an urgent situation , and he was the only plumber who could come the same day, within a couple hours. I'll definitely call Mike again for any future plumbing needs. read more

I just want to thank Mike for responding to my inquiry about fixing my water heater last week. Even though I could not reschedule him to come (the part that I ordered from the manufacturer was delayed due to weather), he was very kind and patient. He also gave a very reasonable quote for the job. Thank you. read more

Mike at Cal Plumbing is everything you could want in a professional tradesman. He returns calls, gives honest estimates, is timely and punctual and being in Pacifica, he is local. He came recommended, gave me a quote after looking at a simple install of new sink, disposer, dishwasher and frig hook up. It was a lot less than another estimate I got. He came out did as promised with no issues and was a nice , clean & conscientious worker. Hooked up the gas stove as well. It's become kind of rare these days when people do exactly what they promise and maybe a bit more. Cal Plumbing delivers. read more

I ran into Mike just outside my house while he was working for my neighbor. It was late in the afternoon and my shower drain had just backed up. I asked if he could help me out and he came right over. Mike trouble shot the problem, told me what the fix should be and wouldn't take a dime!! When it comes time to do the work he will definatly get my business. Thanks Mike- you may well be one of the last of the good guys. read more

Mike was very helpful. We were having some back up problem on our house drain, and, after some discussion, Mike suggested I call the city first to have them clear "their side". That is what they did and all our plumbing is back to normal. Maybe other plumbers would do that, but he skipped the visit whereupon he could have charged an hourly visit charge or something. Helpful and honest. read more

A called to CalPlumbing for someone to snake my shower drain... and, they were able to quote me an estimate. Mike Barbieri showed up to do the job. He did a quick and clean job to my delight. Thank you Mike/ CalPlumbing. All the other outfits needed to come to see prior to quoting charges. Call CalPlumbing if you want something done quick and efficiently. Great customer service! It is time to retract my last YELP negative evaluation about Cal Plumbing for the following reason(s): Mike, the proprietor, recently demonstrated concern and conscientious attention to a retired, limited income elderly customer, my mother about a job which showed problems months after. My very meek, timid elderly mother assumed that there was nothing she could do except to save her monies again to redo the same entire job for a third time. But Mike recently showed he did care to regain and sustain our previous years long trust and confidence in him by offering to fix the problem. In my book of professionalism, one of two most important traits of a true trustworthy professional business owner and contractor is their willingness and ability to maintain goodwill, conscientious customer relations. And Mike did show this recently. We are satisfied. Unintended flaws can occur by any professional expert, because many hardware products as plumbing parts are being made overseas with cheap labor and warranties are now very short. But how a problem is fixed defines a conscientious contractor. Mike showed me he does care. read more

Mike of Cal Plumbing not only failed to show for an appt today, but he failed to call or return my message. I won't ever hire nor refer Cal Plumbing again. I thought his hourly of $115 was a bit high as well. read more

When my water heater busted one night, I looked up plumbers on Yelp (but didn't really like my options -- none of them answered the phone). I remembered that the Chron rated businesses, so I checked sfgate.com/checkbook and found CalPlumbing. I called Mike and he answered the phone (after 6pm!) so he got the job. He showed up the next morning and took the old water heater out and put the new one in. He was super nice the whole time and did a great job. I'm keeping his number in my phone for any future plumbing problems I have. Good man. read more

I've called Mike twice, been very satisfied both times. He's rooted my drains and fixed a leaky shower. He makes appointments and keeps them. He's honest and straightforward, diagnoses the problem quickly, and doesn't inflate the effort. Excellent service, excellent overall. read more

Top Three Reasons Why I Chose CalPlumbing 1) Someone actually answered the phone when I called 2) There was no pressure to schedule an appointment 3) Quote over the phone was accurate based on what I needed With all that said, plus the fact that Mike was very nice and personable is a big plus in my book. I like that he quoted very reasonably and had a set rate not an hourly rate. He gave a 10% discount as a new customer. And he cleaned up after he finished installing the faucet in the guest bathroom. I really couldn't be happier and I'm very glad that I chose CalPlumbing. Like the other reviews say, it's nice knowing that you have good plumbing company to depend on. Thank you, Mike! read more

Our water heater had been broken for 5 days (long story not worth getting into). We called, Mike went out of his way to squeeze us into his full schedule for the day and fixed it. What's not to like about that! We were charged $180 for a half hour repair and travel time. We didn't shop around, so we don't know if that's a good price or not. read more

This guy, unfortunate, wish I had never employed him, installed my water heater 2011. Phoned him on a Monday, has it gone down, but still in warranty. Told, "TOO BUSY, GET SOMEONE ELSE" Ignorant and arrogant. If I could put ZERO or Minus stars, I would read more

Mike is great! He answered my calls, helped me trouble shoot things before he arrived to make sure he could complete the job on his visit. He showed up in his time window, got the job done in 30 min and charged a fair price for his work. The most impressive thing is that the sink I was having issues with is over 100 yrs old, an antique from Austria. It was an amazing Craigslist find that I have fallen in love with. Unfortunately, it is rare because it is so easy to break it! He was so careful and worked together to ensure it's safety. He even left behind the stabilizing stick we used to keep it safe during his work for the next time it needs work done. I will definitely use Mike again (although I hope I don't have to!) read more

I give "Five Stars" to Mike Barbieri. He really saved the day, because I was expecting the start of a big project the following day. That project required the usage of my sink faucet. Mike came that same day and repaired my faucet. He is a no nonsense plumber that concentrates on the repair to be done and does a great job with fair, competitive pricing! Many kudos to Mike. J. Mike, the owner of Cal Plumbing, is the kind of contractor who answers the phone...or returns your call promptly. He was very responsive, professional and easy to work with. Mike is GREAT!!! A native San Franciscan. I had a major plumbing leak in my master bedroom bathroom. Called Mike based on yelp reviews. He made a set appointment date/time and then showed up right when he said he would. Very honest and fair, just an all around great guy - and completely fixed the problem quickly, on the spot. I'm an architect and I strongly recommend Cal Plumbing for contract projects as well as drain unclogging (they did both for me). I needed to replace the in-wall drain from the kitchen sink and the outside riser, both were rusted through) and unclog the drain beyond. I got an estimate from a plumber rated even higher than Cal Plumbing on Yelp and then I called Cal Plumbing for a second estimate. Mike came to my house quickly and on time and his estimate was significantly lower than that of the other plumber. He was personable and completely knowledgable about the best way to do things and what is allowed and not allowed by the code. I decided to give him the project and he did it the next day. He showed up on time, did the project exactly as we had discussed, and did it perfectly. I'm happy to know a reliable and reasonable plumber. I plan to call him the next time I need a plumber and to recommend him to my friends. read more
