Had an absolute blast on the marathon lady today for their morning charter from 8:30 am until 12:30…read morepm. Captain Craig and the two Jakes were amazing. They helped with baiting the hooks, unhooking the catches, cleaning the fish, and providing unparalleled entertainment. We couldn't have asked for a better day on the water, the fish were biting and the weather was absolutely perfect. The captain kept putting us right on the fish and we ended the trip with plenty to bring to a restaurant for a hook and cook dinner. I can't recommend this place enough, the price is right and the people running it and keeping it going are great. The captain even let us know when a pod of dolphins were nearby so we could enjoy seeing them! Such an unexpected and great bonus to the day! It is BYOB if you want, but onboard they do have some beverages and snacks for purchase (cash only on board), but we brought our own which worked out well. Tickets can be purchased with debit or credit cards, but cash on board is king for drinks/snacks, tips, and fish cleaning so make sure to bring some cash for your day on the water! If you're in the middle keys and want a great value for a fishing trip without a full charter, this is the best there is and totally worth it.

We've been doing nighttime snapper trips on the Marathon Lady for the past 10 years. It used to be…read morethe best. Went a couple nights ago and it was much different experience. The bite was very slow all around, but more importantly we felt like they weren't putting in any effort. Asked around and everyone we talked to said they heard they have really went down hill. We went on another boat out of Islamorada last month and the boat limited out super early and everyone went home happy. Sad to say, we're retiring our tradition of going out on the Marathon Lady every year for our anniversary trip.

We had an AMAZING experience with this company! I called last minute the day before and Sheila…read morehelped me set up our charter and give us information. She was so helpful in getting us all set up. Our group consisted of three adults and two kids ages 5 & 9. I will be honest, I was a little nervous about the experience with my littles but, it was THE BEST! Our Captain was Alberto, he was super knowledgeable and kid friendly! My little guy asked sooo many questions but, Captain Alberto was super patient with him and answered all of his questions. Our captain took us to various spots; we snorkeled for a bit and did fishing. We caught tuna and yellowtail snappers! My family had an excellent time, for sure something my kids will forever remember! Thank you Captain Alberto for the great experience!! I highly recommend this company for your littles!

Our captain arrived slightly late, which by itself wasn't a major issue. However, we quickly…read morerealized that the boat we were given was not the one we had booked. We specifically paid for the larger boat to accommodate our group of six, but instead we were placed on a much smaller boat where everyone was cramped together. The boat also appeared to be dirty and not well maintained. The experience got off to a poor start. The captain never introduced himself, never asked what species we wanted to target or what kind of trip we were hoping for, and even made a disrespectful remark shortly after we boarded. It didn't exactly inspire confidence. The slow fishing wasn't the captain's fault--fishing can be unpredictable, and we completely understand that. What was frustrating was that there seemed to be no effort to adapt to the conditions. We stayed in the same area for most of the trip using the same bait and techniques, with no meaningful attempt to try different spots, change tactics, or improve our chances of catching fish. The most disappointing part of the trip was that only one person in our group was allowed to fish at a time. On a $1,200 charter for six people, we expected everyone to have the opportunity to fish simultaneously. Despite having multiple rods on board, the captain only allowed one guest to use a rod at any given time. The equipment itself also seemed very low quality and poorly maintained, especially compared to other charters we've been on, such as Jersey Key Charters, where the gear was modern, reliable, and well cared for. To make matters worse, while only one paying customer was allowed to fish, the captain began using a second rod himself to catch bait for future trips. While we understand that captains sometimes need to catch bait during a trip but they should be focused on the current trip and not a future trip, it was frustrating to see the captain fishing while the majority of the paying customers were waiting for their turn. That decision made us feel like our experience wasn't the priority. By the end of the trip, we had only caught a small number of fish and were so disappointed with the overall experience that we chose to return to the dock early rather than finish the full four-hour charter. I want to be fair and acknowledge that not every trip is guaranteed to produce fish, and I don't believe this necessarily reflects every captain or every trip this company runs. However, when you're spending $1,200 for a four-hour charter, you expect professionalism, quality equipment, clear communication, and a genuine effort to provide the best experience possible--even if the fishing is slow. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. If you're considering booking with this company, I would simply encourage you to ask questions beforehand about the boat you'll be using, the equipment provided, and how the trip is typically run. Hopefully your experience will be better than ours, but ours left us feeling that our money was not well spent.
